Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama administration considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.
The intervention, which has angered US relatives of those who died in the attack, was made by Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the US embassy in London, a week before Megrahi was freed in August last year on grounds that he had terminal cancer.
The document, acquired by a well-placed US source, threatens to undermine US President Barack Obama's claim last week that all Americans were "surprised, disappointed and angry" to learn of Megrahi's release.
Scottish ministers viewed the level of US resistance to compassionate release as "half-hearted" and a sign it would be accepted.
The US has tried to keep the letter secret, refusing to give permission to the Scottish authorities to publish it on the grounds it would prevent future "frank and open communications" with other governments.
Those people, in the White House are WORSE than previous stupid lying bastards in the same way that the VALUE SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES who invaded the Schiavo's, peeked under bathroom stalls, aggressively homosexually pursued House pages, and took bribes from defense contractors are worse than Bill Clinton.
They BOTH stink for their corrupt lack of honor and discipline, but one of them claimed that their being BETTER was a cause for political victory.
Barack Obama and the moral cowards around him are ethically and morally precisely the same as Mark Foley and all the stupid lying corrupt bastards who have lived in our political landscape for several decades now.
We need to elect politician on the basis of what they HAVE DONE.
It tells us who they are.

don't tell me you're surprised ,i've said it many times you have Tony Blair best friend of bush and suddenly Tony blair is the best friend of Ghadaffi he even becomes his prised advisor and he's by all chances also friends with BP,c'mon what are the odds for this happening by chance?
And the same ghadaffi calls Obama his "lost son" in a matter of speach?
seeing that one of the percepts of islam is that deceiving (lying) to the enemy (Christians-Jews etc) is OK if it is in the best interest of islam..I am not surprised that there were lies-
sadly- we don't 'get it'! yet!

The trial of al-Megrahi was deeply flawed. If he had continued with his appeal it is likely he would have been pardoned.
He was a patsy purely to appease Americans. The crash site was crawling with US agents who were contaminating/planting evidence. That was not a crime scene that could be trusted.
