Computer Woes

Why I'm not around much here at IBA....

I can't begin to tell you all the troubles I've been having the past few weeks! I actually dread turning on either of my computers and logging onto the Internet.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled various programs and have run various utilities, sometimes with improvement and sometimes to no avail.

The situation is maddening!

Read the rest HERE.

I've been having some sporadic trouble too, though deleting browsing history and running weekly security scans usually keeps it within reason. Let us know how FIOS works out, maybe I should talk to Verizon about getting that too.

Alex,
TMW gave up blogging last week.

Not to worry. She's okay.

RRA,
I've tried all that! No solution.

Today, my connection speed was slower than that of dial-up!

I've got to get rid of DSL!

Two words - Clean Start. Get the program discs you need/use, along with serial numbers/activation codes into one box. Port all your data/personal files over to a thumb drive, or a portable HD and toss that into the same box.

Then reset your machine to factory specs, reinstall (and/or unlock) your software, copy your data files back over, (keeping a copy on the thumb or HD for backup), and finally run internet updates for all your stuff like windows, java, quicktime, and your anti-virus software etc.

I used to do this about every year or so, and I'll be doing it again soon. Then say goodbye to most of your nagging problems and hello to a few new ones, maybe. If it takes more than a day or so, you need to practice doing this more often. It's not so bad.
