Iott deserves no support - NOT A SIMPLE RE-ENACTOR SITUATION.. a little research

This is the unit Iott VOLUNTARILY CHOSE TO RE-ENACT, Wiking Division Waffen SS:

Members of the division's bakery column, led by Obersturmführer Braunnagel and Untersturmführer Kochalty, assisted Einsatzgruppe A in rounding up Ukrainian Jews. Witnesses report that the Jewish victims were forced to run a gauntlet formed by soldiers who would beat them as they passed, and when they reached the end of the gauntlet, Einsatzgruppen officers murdered them and their bodies were pushed into a bomb crater. The German 1st Mountain Division is also suspected of being implicated. Between 50 and 60 Jews were killed in this manner, as a part of the larger Einsatzgruppe operation which resulted in over 700 murders[8]

In addition historian Eleonore Lappin from the Institute for the History of Jews in Austria has documented several cases of war crimes committed by members of the 5 SS Division Wiking in her workThe Death Marches of Hungarian Jews Through Austria in the Spring of 1945.[9]

On March 28, 1945, eighty Jews from evacuation column, though fit for the journey, were shot by three members of the Waffen SS division Wiking and five military policemen. On April 4, twenty members of another column that left Graz tried to escape near Eggenfeld, not far from Gratkorn. Soldiers from the 5 SS Division Wiking that were temporarily stationed there apprehended them in the forest near Mt. Eggenfeld and then herded them in a gully, where they were shot. On April 7 and 11, 1945 members of the division executed another eighteen escaped prisoners.[9] 5 SS DivisionWiking war crimes have not been confirmed, mostly because they were not proven guilty in the Nuremberg trials.

Anyone out there know of any re-enactment of the Confederate Forces at Fort Pillow under Nathan Bedford Forrest?

If nothing else Iott is TOO STUPID for office.
But something tells me you don't pick out a unit like this to emulate out of ignorance.

This is NOT just a re-enactor.

Wiking is affiliated with the WWII Historical Re-enactment Society, Inc., so maybe they have some 'splaining to do. Other than the disclaimers that they do not support any right wing extremist groups they seem to ignore ideology. Reasonable, I suppose, if you are just re-enacting military battles, but not too bright to pick an axis unit if you have any political plans for the future.

So Iott has at the very least shot himself in the foot. Plus now we have all the diehard Social Issues First types who just HAVE to state their positions on gay this and gay that.

If we fail to retake the House this November thanks to some combination of these idiots and can't come up with a rational candidate in 2012 and find ourselves facing 4 more years of Obammunism and jihad I hope all these people will be real proud of their "good intentions" because the road to where we're going is going to be paved with them.

Dang. They indeed do re-enactment of the Ft. Pillow battle, so I assume somebody is playing Bedford's forces.

Somewhat OT, but there is a lot of "re-enactment" of the Salem Witch Trials done there, especially in October. I haven't been to any, but I suspect they are largely geared towards sensationalism and misinforming the tourists. One site has an exhibit of "witch hunts" that includes the McCarthy hearings. (One reason I don't go in is I'm afraid I'll see something about Islam Means Peace and wind up in the Essex County jail for the night.) There's a lot of "religious tolerance" finger-wagging which is interesting since "witchcraft" was not considered a "religion" then but it is now and Salem is full of modern pagan religionists and "witches" who are a main source of its income.

Okay this pandora's box
Check out this REVISIONIST crap.

Bedford Forrest's own diary provides the FACTS that he is responsible for the slaughter and murder of the black troops and white officers

Germain to OUR discussion is that a TN state rep is PRESENT at this particular Fort Pillow re-enactment...

WITHOUT UNIFORM

Yeah, I bumped into that when I was looking around the various re-enactment sites. It begins to look like the military re-enactors specifically are determined to avoid any "unpleasantness" stemming from the realities of some of the roles they are playing, so as not to spoil their enjoyment of the activity. Sometimes it's valid enough -- our local "Redcoat" re-enactors are treated with good humor when they perform, which is a fine because we don't need fights breaking out, it scares the tourists. But once you get into situations invovling atrocities? Seems to me that's where the fun should end.
