Gen. Petraeus wears Islamic turban in Afghanistan

Diana West has long maintained a low opinion of Gen. David Petraeus, whom she feels is one of the architects of Arabist/Islamist policies. With this picture worth a thousand words, what else can be said, aside from how he makes himself into a male who wears a Muslim male's type of headwear as a totally unnecessary sign of "respect", but which is more like degradation and definite appeasement, and gives a little more insight into how that degrading "option" was authorized for female soldiers to wear a burka on missions in Afghanistan?

After seeing this, I no longer have any respect for Petraeus, who shouldn't even be wearing what looks like a primitive coat. He doesn't need to wear a military uniform; he could wear a suit and tie, but to wear what may be tribal gear is just as insulting as that headpiece.

Update: and while we're on the subject, Rob Miller's discovered more about just how bad Petraeus and his aides are. This man is not suited to lead the US army, and should resign.

Maher: Islam is a Violent Drunk

There's not much I agree with Bill Maher on anymore, but he is usually dead on when it comes to Islam.

Jihad Watch:

Bill Maher on Qur'an burning and riots: "It’s like if Dad is a violent drunk and beats his kids, you don’t blame the kid because he set Dad off"

And more pointedly: "There is one religion in the world that kills you when you disagree with them and they say ‘look, we are a religion of peace and if you disagree we’ll f---ing cut your head off'."

As he notes: “And nobody calls them on it — there are very few people that will call them on it.”

We do. Always have, always will. "Maher: Islam Only Religion That 'Kills You When You Disagree With Them'," from Real Clear Politics, April 9 (thanks to Weasel Zippers):

"All this talk of people who burn the Koran and nothing about the people who reacted in such a stupid way. We are always blaming the victim and not holding them -- most Muslims, but at least a large part of Muslim culture that doesn't condemn their people," Bill Maher said on his show "Real Time" Friday night.
"There is one religion in the world that kills you when you disagree with them and they say 'look, we are a religion of peace and if you disagree we'll f---ing cut your head off,'" Maher said. "And nobody calls them on it -- there are very few people that will call them on it."
"It's like if Dad is a violent drunk and beats his kids, you don't blame the kid because he set Dad off. You blame Dad because he's a violent drunk," Maher concluded.
Maher also give his reaction to Sen. Lindsey Graham saying "free speech is great, but we're at war comment. Maher said that comment made him "nervous."

Pajamas Media:

Ahmadinejad: ‘A Mideast Without Israel and America Now Possible’
Also: "I can safely say that they will simply not be able to do anything and that this is the end of the road."

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards website, Sepah News, reports:

In his first press conference of the new year 1390 [Iranian New Year was on March 21] which took place on Monday evening, April 4th, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asserted that a new Middle East, without the specter of the Zionist regime, America and its proxies, is taking shape.

Ahmadinejad warned that the U.S. and its allies plan to partition Jordan under the guise of creating a Palestinian state which is in fact nothing more than an attempt to save the Zionist regime. He cautioned: “The governments and peoples of the region must be vigilant and aware, not to fall pray to the conspiracy and the deception of the U.S., its allies and the Zionist regime.”

Remarking on U.S. foreign policy, Ahmadinejad maintained that both the Bush and Obama administrations actually followed the very same course of action, and added: “If the previous U.S. president left office with his head hanging in shame, his successor will be leaving the political scene with more derision and humiliation.” Quoting Obama’s campaign slogan of change and supporting the rights of people, Ahmadinejad then said: “Behind this attractive appearance lurks the same old criminals, professional and typical thieves, those same slave owners and colonialists and this time their aim is to once again save their own banking system and imperialist interests. The last U.S. administration very openly and publicly rolled out its tanks, cannons, machine guns and bullied its way into the field; the successor who then claimed to be for change has, on the one hand, the arms and military force and, on the other hand, the apparatus of deception and intrigue.”

Then addressing U.S. authorities, Ahmadinejad said: “The time of pillaging and imposition on the peoples of the world is over and these forms of crimes and subterfuge will not save the day anymore.”

Returning to his comments, he continued: “I can safely say that they will simply not be able to do anything and that this is the end of the road. With the Lord’s mercy, the people of the region will be victorious and the business of cruelty and malevolence will be shut down forever, and where the just and humane leadership will replace the inhumane and uncivilized authoritarians.”

Gaza-Israel violence rages on as 4 militants killed

GAZA (Reuters) - Israel killed four Palestinian militants and wounded half a dozen others as it pursued air raids in Gaza for a third day on Saturday, responding to increased rocket fire out of the territory, local medics said.

Militants in the Gaza Strip, ruled by the Islamist Hamas, continued striking Israel's south with rockets, wounding five Israelis at around daybreak, according to Israeli media reports.

Israeli forces killed a local Hamas commander in the southern Gaza town of Rafah bordering Egypt, as well as two of his bodyguards, in a targeted strike on a vehicle, medics said. Israel blamed the slain commander for a rocket strike on its port of Eilat launched from Egyptian Sinai some months ago.

Five militants were wounded in a second air raid in northern Gaza. Another air strike at daybreak killed a further militant.

Cross-border violence has surged since Hamas militants fired an anti-tank rocket at an Israeli school bus on Thursday, wounding two people including a teenager, who was listed in critical condition.

Israel has said it wants to teach Hamas a lesson for that attack, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday amounted to "crossing a line," adding that "whoever tries to attack and murder children puts his life on the line."

At least 18 Palestinian militants and civilians, including an 11-year-old boy, have been killed in retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip since Thursday, and 36 since the latest round of bloodletting began in earnest on March 20.

Army says ready to use force to clear Cairo square

..CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's ruling generals said on Saturday they were ready to use force to end protests in Tahrir Square after troops cracked down on demonstrators overnight and sparked violence that medical sources said killed two people.

Soldiers and police had used tasers and batons to try to drive out protesters from the square, the epicenter of protests that toppled Hosni Mubarak on February 11. Gunshots echoed across the square in the overnight operation.

Hundreds defied the army move and stayed. Thousands more joined them on Saturday demanding power be handed to civilians and calling for the resignation of Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, who heads the ruling council.

"Tahrir Square will be emptied of protesters with firmness and force to ensure life goes back to normal," the council's Major General Adel Emarah told a news conference.

The army has become a target for a hard core of protesters who say it is colluding with remnants of Mubarak's network and thwarting calls for a deeper purge of former officials.

"The military council is part and parcel of the corrupt regime. It is made up of heads of the army that have benefited from Mubarak and his 30 years of robbing the Egyptian people," said Abdullah Ahmed, 45, a protester in Tahrir.

Responding to Emarah's remarks, protester Zain Abdel Latif in Tahrir said: "If they use force we will use force. This isn't Libya, where the army can just attack us."

The protesters' anger was fueled early on Saturday morning when the army tried to clear demonstrators from Tahrir during the 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. curfew. After failing to remove all the protesters, troops backed out of the square during the day.

Syrian forces fire at mourners after mass funeral

AMMAN (Reuters) - Syrian security forces opened fire on mourners near a mosque in the flashpoint city of Deraa after a mass funeral for pro-democracy protesters, two witnesses said on Saturday.

Security forces used live ammunition and tear gas to disperse thousands of people who were chanting freedom slogans after assembling near the old Omari mosque in the old quarter of the city, near the border with Jordan, the witnesses said.

Dozens of people have been killed in a wave of protests across Syria against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad.

A Syrian rights group said at least 37 people had been killed in protests across the country on Friday.

"Syrian security committed (in Deraa) what could be called a crime against humanity," the National Organization for Human Rights said in a statement. "It fired indiscriminately on protesters and killed and wounded tens of them."

State television for its part said armed groups had killed 19 policemen and wounded 75 in the city. The Interior Ministry warned it would not tolerate breaches of the law and would deal with "armed groups," state news agency SANA said.

Just Like I Said ('cept I said it better)

Dick Morris:

By Dick Morris And Eileen McGann

John Boehner has just given away the Republican victory of 2010 at the bargaining table. Like the proverbial Uncle Sam who always wins the war but loses the peace, he has unilaterally disarmed the Republican Party by showing that he will not shut down the government and will, instead, willingly give way on even the most modest of cuts in order to avoid it. He now has no arrows left in his quiver.

Having failed to stand firm for just $61 billion in cuts in a budget of $3.7 trillion, how can we expect him to stand firm over the debt limit extension or the 2012 budget? We can’t. The excellent budget proposals of Paul Ryan are no more than a pipe dream now. Boehner has He sold us out now and he’ll sell us out again.

It is the duty of every Republican Congressman to vote no on this terrible deal. It violates our campaign promises to the American people. We promised $100 billion of cuts and we delivered $38 billion ($62 billion on a twelve month basis). In the Republican House’s first real test out of the box it has broken the promise over which it was elected. Only in Meat Loaf’s music is “two out of three not bad.”

This concession makes it clear that:

* Obamacare will not be defunded.
* The EPA will not be blocked from regulating carbon.
* The NLRB will not be stopped from forcing an end to secret ballots in union contests.
* Medicaid will not be block granted and turned over to the states.
* Welfare spending will not be cut nor work requirements imposed.
* The FCC will not be stopped from regulating talk radio.

In short, we have accomplished nothing by our hard work in 2010.

Except we have learned a lesson.

And the lesson is this: We need to purify our party and purge it of the likes of John Boehner and all those Congressmen who vote for the budget sellout. The Tea Party must take the lead in this purifying fire. We must not let the RINOs win!

Finally, Something Me And The Muslims Can Agree On

Malaysian MP Says Men Can Have Affairs Because Wives “Neglect” Their Duty in Bed

From Will at The Other News:
Malaysian men have extramarital sex because of “wives who neglect their responsibilities” to their husbands, a Malaysian lawmaker told Parliament on Thursday, outraging women’s groups.

“Husbands driving home after work see things that are sexually arousing and go to their wives to ease their urges,” said independent lawmaker Ibrahim Ali, according to online portal Malaysiakini.

“But when they come home to their wives, they will say, ‘wait, I’m cooking,’ or ‘wait, I’m getting ready to visit relatives’,” Ibrahim said.

“In Islam, wives are supposed to stop everything to fulfill their husband’s demands.”

Ali heads Perkasa, a right-wing Malay nationalist group seeking to protect ethnic Malay dominance in politics.

His strident comments came as he asked about plans by the government’s religious development department to educate wives on their responsibilities.

Wives failing in their duties pushed men to go to “private places to satisfy their urges”, he said.

An aide to the lawmaker confirmed the remarks but declined further comment. His comments prompted fury among women’s groups in a nation with a growing sex industry and a problem with human trafficking.Women’s Aid Organisation chief Ivy Josiah said Ibrahim’s comments were unacceptable for a parliamentarian.

Egypt - Three Churches Attacked, Egyptian Military Sides With Radical Muslims

From Will at The Other News:

In the last two weeks three attacks on churches were undertaken by Salafis or Islamic Fundamentalists in Egypt. The Salafis demanded churches move to locations outside communities and be forbidden from making repairs, "even if they are so dilapidated that the roofs will collapse over the heads of the congregation," says Father Estephanos Shehata of Samalut Coptic Diocese.

The latest of these incidents took place in the village of Kamadeer, in Samalout, Minya province on April 5, which escalated to the point where it was feared the church would be torched and demolished, as was done in the case of St. George and St. Mina Church in village of Soul, Atfif, on March 5 (AINA 3-5-2011).

For three days Muslims occupied the entrance to St. John the Beloved Church in the village of Kamadeer with their mats, praying and sleeping there while thousands of village Copts staged a sit-in for three continuous days in front of the Minya governorate building, vowing not to leave until they got their church back. "Even if it takes one year, we will still be here," said Fr. Youssab in the rally.

The Chickenshits Caved!

Boehner played chicken and flinched.

NO defunding of Planned Parenthood.

NO reigning in of the EPA.

NO defunding of Obamacare.

ONLY $38 billion in cuts. That's equal to the American cost of only 19 days in Libya.

$500 billion over ten years.

The chickenshits were afraid of what may happen in 2012. And now the Dems know this and will play it every time they want to railroad something else through.

They learned NOTHING from November.

So find out who voted for this fiasco, whether Republican, Tea Party Republican or Democrat. Write to them if they are your Washington Whore --er -- Congressman and be sure to tell them you will work to

Congress Strikes a Budget Deal to Avert Shutdown, Cutting $38.5B

Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.

The deal includes $38.5 billion in spending cuts while leaving the more contention policy matters, such as blocking funding for Planned Parenthood, for a later debate.

"This agreement between Democrats and Republicans on behalf of all Americas is a budget that invests in our future while making the largest spending cut in our history," President Obama said in a short speech to the nation after the deal had been announced.

House Speaker John Boehner, speaking to reporters just before Obama's remarks, said lawmakers would pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill next week.

"We fought to keep government spending down because it really will be a jobs creator for our country," Boehner said.

Of the $38.5 billion in spending cuts to Obama's original 2011 budget proposal, the short-term stopgap measure contains the first $2 billion and the final budget bill will cut the other $36.5 billion.

It was a remarkable end to a roller-coaster week of negotiations, in which the government several times seemed headed for a shutdown because the two sides couldn't agree on a full-year deal.

Obama has already signed two temporary spending bills, which included a total of $10 billion in spending cuts, but he said this week he wasn't interested in any more short-term fixes.

As late as hours before the agreement, a government shutdown seemed quite possible -- if not inevitable -- as both sides couldn't even agree, at least in public, on what was holding up a deal.

Democrats said Republicans were pushing for social policy measure, while Republicans said the Democrats hadn't agreed to enough spending cuts.

But in the end, neither side wanted a shutdown that would risk the economic recovery and their political future.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called the agreement "historic."

"Both sides have made tough choices, but tough choices is what this job is all about," Reid said.

The Senate passed the short-term spending measure Friday night by a voice vote. The House passed the bill early Saturday.

The government's current fiscal year began back in October, but Democrats last year, facing stiff opposition from Republicans, put off a vote on a full-year budget as both parties geared up for the midterm elections. The standoff began in earnest several weeks ago, when the new

Republican majority in the House passed legislation that would fund the government for the rest of the year, but with $61 billion in cuts and numerous curbs on the government that Democrats objected to.

In the weeks since, the two sides have alternately negotiated on a budget for the rest of the year and taken time out to pass interim measures to buy themselves more time.

Republicans originally wanted to ban federal funds for Planned Parenthood, a health care services provider that is also the nation's largest provider of abortions.

Federal funds may not be used to pay for abortions except in strictly regulated cases, but supporters of the ban said cutting off government funds for the organization -- currently about $330 million a year -- would make it harder for it to use its own money for the same purpose.

Democrats rejected the proposal in private talks. Officials in both parties said Republicans returned earlier in the week with a proposal to distribute federal funds for family planning and related health services to the states, rather than directly to Planned Parenthood and other organizations.

Democrats said they rejected that proposal as well, and Obama had vowed to veto a bill that the House passed Tuesday to fund then refused to agree to allow a separate Senate vote on the issue as part of debate over any compromise bill.

Before The Movies (in 1940 & 2010)

There was the music (in 1897)

The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britan
Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice

And before the music, there was the poem (in 1797)

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
(Translation by Brigitte Dubiel)

Good! The sorcerer, my old master
left me here alone today!
Now his spirits, for a change,
my own wishes shall obey!
Having memorized
what to say and do,
with my powers of will I can
do some witching, too!

Go, I say,
Go on your way,
do not tarry,
water carry,
let it flow abundantly,
and prepare a bath for me!

Come on now, old broom, get dressed,
these old rags will do just fine!
You're a slave in any case,
and today you will be mine!
May you have two legs,
and a head on top,
take the bucket, quick
hurry, do not stop!

Go, I say,
Go on your way,
do not tarry,
water carry,
let it flow abundantly,
and prepare a bath for me.

Look, how to the bank he's running!
and now he has reached the river,
he returns, as quick as lightning,
once more water to deliver.
Male! Look! The tub already
is almost filled up!
And now he is filling
every bowl and cup!

Stop! Stand still!
Heed my will!
I've enough
of the stuff!
! I've forgotten - woe is me!
what the magic word may be.

Oh, the word to change him back
into what he was before!
Oh, he runs, and keeps on going!
Wish you'd be a broom once more!
He keeps bringing water
herein, quickly as can be,
and a hundred rivers
he pours down on me!

No, no longer
can I let him,
I must get him
with some trick!
I'm beginning to feel sick.
What a look! - and what a face!

O, you ugly child of Hades!
The entire house will drown!
Everywhere I look, I see
water, water, running down.
Be you damned, old broom,
why won't you obey?
Be a stick once more,
please, I beg you, stay!

Is the end
not in sight?
I will grab you,
hold you tight,
with my axe I'll split the brittle
old wood smartly down the middle.

Here he comes again with water!
Now I'll throw myself upon you,
and the sharpness of my axe
I will test, o spirit, on you.
Well, a perfect hit!
See how he is split!
Now there's hope for me,
and I can breathe free!

Woe is me! Both pieces
come to life anew,
now, to do my bidding
I have servants two!
Help me, o great powers!
Please, I'm begging you!

And they're running! Wet and wetter
get the stairs, the rooms, the hall!
What a deluge! What a flood!
Lord and master, hear my call!
Ah, here comes the master!
I have need of Thee!
from the spirits that I called
Sir, deliver me!

“Back now, broom,
into the closet!
Be thou as thou
wert before!
Until I, the real master
call thee forth to serve once more!”

Is the Koran Burner an American Patriot?

Our elites are hostage to the wrong sensitivities (from PJM).
So let me get this straight. Florida preacher Terry Jones burns the Koran as part of a religious protest and is promptly condemned by General David Petraeus? Jones’ act, the general says, “was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible.”
Meanwhile, the United States military condones and participates in the burning of the Christian Bible. As CNN reported in May of 2009:
Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.
The American media elite are also wringing their hands over the burning of the Koran, and not just on the Left. Even Jonah Goldberg of National Review laments that “(b)urning books — any books — is bad. Burning holy books is really bad.” Uh, no. A book is a product, a piece of property, which can legitimately be used for reading, propping a door open, hiding cash (senior citizens only), decorating a shelf, shredding for an art project, burning in protest, or anything else its owner may desire.

You see, I’m terribly old fashioned. I believe that our constitutionally protected rights to free speech and private property were designed exactly for men like Jones (whose views are unpopular), and to provide sanctuary for exactly his kind of protest (which we may find morally unsavory). I also was under the impression that untold numbers of Americans have given their lives overseas so that all of us can enjoy these privileges here at home.

Terry Jones may be a bigot, but that is hardly the point. As far as I’m concerned, he is more of an American patriot that General Petraeus, who ought to be ashamed of himself for siding with the savages in Afghanistan, who have rioted and killed dozens because their “sensitivities” have been inflamed by the actions of one private American citizen. Really, who does he think he is? How dare Petraeus, the president, or any other U.S. official condone the state ordered burning of the Christian Bible, which is a far, far graver offense than the preacher’s inconsequential conflagration. You see it is when, and only when, the government decides which books are to be consigned to the flames that it is “really bad,” to use Goldberg’s eloquent formulation.

They Didn't Know They Had Tanks?!?!?!?

NATO admits deadly airstrike but blames Libyan rebels

By Shashank Bengali | McClatchy Newspapers

BENGHAZI, Libya — The deputy commander of NATO forces in Libya acknowledged Friday that the alliance struck rebel tanks outside the eastern oil town of Brega a day earlier but blamed the deadly incident on a lack of communication from the rebels.

Rear Adm. Russell Harding said "it would appear that two of our strikes yesterday may have resulted in the deaths of a number of TNC forces," referring to the Transitional National Council, the rebels' de facto government. Doctors said that at least five people were killed in the Thursday morning strike, the second friendly fire incident in less than a week involving NATO forces and the rebels battling Libyan strongman Muammar Gadhafi.

"I'm not apologizing," Harding told reporters in Naples, Italy. "The situation on the ground was extremely fluid and remains extremely fluid. And up until yesterday we had no information that the TNC or the opposition forces were using tanks."

Harding's assertion directly contradicted the rebels' military commander, Gen. Abdulfatah Younis, who said that his forces informed NATO that they were moving about 20 tanks from the rebel capital of Benghazi to the frontline near Brega. The tanks included several Soviet-made T-72s that belonged to Gadhafi's army, but which rebels had seized in recent battles.

"We had supplied them with all the information and (said) that they would be transported on tank transports and told them the direction they are going to," Younis said Thursday night.

Rebels said that missiles launched from a low-flying warplane struck four tanks and a passenger bus carrying fighters about 12 miles outside of Brega. Rebels who were injured in the attack expressed shock that NATO warplanes could mistake a convoy of their tanks — which they said were stationary and flying the tricolor rebel flag — for those loyal to Gadhafi.

The incident came five days after at least 13 rebels were killed in another NATO airstrike on Brega, and it underscored confusion between the alliance, which took over command of the U.N.-ordered no-fly zone earlier this week, and the inexperienced rebels, who have been unable to hold their ground against Gadhafi's forces along the pivotal coastal Mediterranean road.

Despite Younis's claims that the rebels are in "minute-by-minute communication" with NATO, the two sides seem increasingly to be at odds. Nearly 12 hours after the Brega incident occurred, Younis said that he hadn't directly communicated with NATO commanders about it, and Harding said Friday that he wasn't aware of Younis's comments from the day before.

In recent days rebels and opposition supporters in eastern Libya have accused NATO of failing to do enough to protect civilians.

Opposition officials have voiced alarm at the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Misrata, a rebel-held city in western Libya that Gadhafi's forces have attacked with snipers and artillery barrages, and complained the Turkish navy, under NATO command, stopped a ship from delivering weapons and medical supplies to Misrata because the weapons would contravene an arms embargo.

Harding took exception to allegations, saying that NATO has allowed 12 ships to reach Libya, four for humanitarian missions and eight to carry out evacuations. He said that the alliance has flown more than 1,500 air sorties over the past week, more than half of which carried out airstrikes against tanks, armored personnel carriers, ammunition dumps and other targets.

"It may not be apparent to TNC forces — to whom we don't have to prove where we are — but we have been attacking targets that directly threaten civilians, civilian population areas or are linked to those forces that are doing so," Harding said.

The Hill:

Schumer likens conservatives to a flea
By Josiah Ryan - 04/08/11 03:39 PM ET

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) compared House conservatives to a flea Friday as rhetoric in the spending fight intensified.

Schumer, who has been criticizing Republicans all day, said in a floor speech Friday that conservatives were the flea controlling the dog, which he said in this case is a federal government that could shut down at midnight.

“What we have here is a flea, wagging a tail, wagging a dog,” said Schumer, chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee.

“The flea are the minority of House Republicans who are hard right, the tail is the House Republican caucus, and the dog is the government,” Schumer explained. “That flea is influencing what the dog does ... and it is sad.”

Schumer for more than a week has been arguing that Tea Party conservatives will be to blame if there is a shutdown.

“When either party goes to the extreme they don’t do the right thing,” said Schumer. “My experience is they lose politically, but much more importantly they do what is wrong for the country substantively."

If a deal to fund the government is not struck before midnight today, the government will shut down.

Though it should come as no surprise to anyone here, I'm in favor of concealed carry on campuses. And everywhere else, for that matter.

An armed society is a polite society

Opponents of Gun-Free Zones at Universities Find Unlikely Hero in Nevada Woman
By Claudia Cowan

Across the country, lawmakers are debating whether universities should let students and faculty with permits carry their concealed weapon on campus. Those who want to put an end to such gun-free zones have found an unlikely hero in a petite, soft spoken, young woman who wonders why colleges protect most Constitutional rights, but not the one that matters most when staring into the face of a violent criminal.

Amanda Collins, 25, is a wife and new mom, and a concealed weapon permit holder for years. At her father's law office in Reno, she showed us the 9-mm Glock she carries for her safety.

"It's got a pretty standard magazine," she said, "and night sights so you can see in the dark when you're aiming."

However, Collins couldn't aim her gun at the serial rapist who attacked her at the University of Nevada at Reno, where she was a student. That's because, like most public colleges outside of Utah and Colorado, UNR is a "gun free" zone. The rule required her to leave her gun at home, leaving her defenseless the one time she needed its protection most.

In October of 2007, while walking to her car after a night class, Collins was grabbed from behind in a university parking garage less than 300 yards from a campus police office. The school's "gun-free" designation meant nothing to James Biela, a serial rapist with a gun of his own, who saw Collins as an easy target. "He put a firearm to my temple," she recounted, "clocked off the safety, and told me not to say anything, before he raped me."

The university has since installed more emergency call boxes and lights in the parking structure, but Collins says that won't stop an attacker who knows the campus is a gun-free zone, a policy she believes invites crime, and may have even emboldened the man who raped her.

Just months later, Biela went on to murder 19-year old Brianna Dennison in a case that received widespread national attention. While Biela now sits on death row, Collins is convinced the outcome would have been different had she been armed.

"I know, having been the first victim, that Brianna Dennison would still be alive, had I been able to defend myself that night."

Collins is believed to be the first victim of an on-campus rape to come out and publicly share her horrific attack in an effort to change the law and keep people safe.

Last month, she testified before Nevada lawmakers in support of , a bill that would allow concealed weapons at the state's public universities. It would abolish the requirement that permit holders get permission from the university president -- a request that is routinely denied. (Amanda was finally allowed to carry her weapon -- after she was attacked).

But others say campus gun-free zones are vital to maintain security and reduce chances of gun related accidents and violence. Reno police oppose the bill, as does an academic group called the Nevada Faculty Alliance. Dr. Gregory Brown, professor of history at UNLV and vice president of the UNLV Faculty Alliance, points to studies that argue more guns on campus translates into more violence at school.

Nevada State Senator Michael Schneider, D-Las Vegas, fears guns in the hands of students will be disastrous.

"They are not trained professionals," Schneider said. "By the time any student could get a gun, when they were attacked by someone else with a gun if they went for their gun, it would be a bad outcome."

But gun rights advocate John Lott argues that at the 70 schools that allow students and faculty with permits to carry guns, "not one has experienced the type of harm predicted by opponents. Not a single permit holder on these campuses has been involved in a firearm accident or crime."

For Collins, the ban defies logic.

"I don't understand why (the state) trusts good, responsible people to be able to have their firearm across the street, and as soon as they cross an arbitrary line, they somehow lose all reason and ability to be able to be competent with that responsibility. It makes no sense to me at all."

Her main argument comes from self protection. "Everyone deserves a chance to defend themselves," she says. "The criminals who are intent on committing a crime don't care about what the rules and regulations are. The only ones that do are the law abiding citizens, and those are the ones who are permitted to carry everywhere else."

Later this month, SB 231 heads to the Senate floor, where Schneider vows to block it.

A dozen other states, including Florida, Idaho, and Texas, are also debating whether to lift gun bans on college campuses. As traumatic as it to relive her attack, Collins says she'll testify wherever and whenever she can to help make that happen.

Democrat: "Republicans Against Abortion Came to “Kill Women”

Louise Slaughter
Image via Wikipedia
Rep. Louise Slaughter, a New York Democrat, compared Republican efforts to revoke taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business to actions taken by the Nazi regime in Germany during World War II.
Slaughter’s comments came during a poorly-attended rally several national pro-abortion groups, including Planned Parenthood and NARAL, sponsored yesterday in Washington.
“This is probably one of the worst times we’ve seen because the numbers of people elected to Congress. I went through this as co-chair of the arts caucus,” Slaughter said, according to a CNS News report. ”In ’94 people were elected simply to come here to kill the National Endowment for the Arts. Now they’re here to kill women.”
Slaughter’s focus is also the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” a bill that would apply to every federal program and department to ensure that pro-life advocates don’t have to pass several pro-life riders annually to ensure various parts of the federal government don’t fund abortions with taxpayer dollars. Slaughter made the false charge that the bill forces women to prove they were raped or a victim of incest to qualify for a publicly-funded abortion under the rare exceptions in the bill.
“You are allowed to have an abortion if you have been raped or it’s a matter of incest,” said Slaughter. “However, you have to keep a receipt. Did you know that? It’s sort of like an old German Nazi movie. Show me your papers!”

American Quote of the Day

Quote of the Day

"Bring it on. I think the Republicans need to stand rigidly firm and shut the government down for a few days. The Obama White House is weak. If the Republicans hold the line, Obama will fold faster than a lawn chair. And the Republicans will get their $60 billion in reductions."

Why I can no longer STAND the Democratic Party

We are witnessing a moment where dickering over ~$6 billion, when the gap between what the govt takes in and what it spends is 2,333 times that amount each year, and more than 6 times that EVERY DAY is becoming KABUKI.

From Drudge:

DNC FACEBOOK event calls for dumping trash at Boehner's house...
Dickering on Budget Goes Down to Wire...
Pelosi calls GOP plan 'war on women'...
Dem: Shutdown 'equivalent of bombing innocent civilians'...
Jesse Jackson compares to Civil War...
Congress doesn't shut down during a 'shutdown'...
Negotiators differ by $6.5 billion...
BOEHNER: 'When will the White House and Senate Democrats get serious about cutting spending?'
REID: GOP wants shutdown to keep 'women from getting cancer screenings'...

The WaPo fact checker has completely scourged Pelosi and now her ridiculous anthologies have been picked up by Reid as he is TRYING TO PROTECT FEDERAL SEIZURE OF INCOME FOR THE PURPOSES THAT SOME (not I, at least in the first weeks) CONSIDER MURDER (Planned Parenthood funds ..going to abortion). After being called, no Planned Parenthood Clinic seems to be offering mammograms (what does that have to do with BIRTH CONTROL?)

Jesse Jackson apparently has stopped taking his Lithium and Zoloft.

While this STUPID controversy will really do almost nothing to halt the national fiscal crisis, the iconic and symbolic fight may have some importance IF there is a shutdown and the public sides with those who WISH TO CONTROL THAT PROBLEM.

The real battle will center on Ryan, whose budget ideas will certainly be presented by the Republican house. Of course THERE IS NO BUDGET from the democrats who find it far easier to simply take pot shots at LEADERS.

No public program to help the needy will survive to help them if we, the USA, fail.

Why this is not obvious, and keeping democrats up most if not all nights is beyond me. Instead they APPEAR to be merely scheming politically to EXPAND programs which get them votes, accelerating the process which will collapse the programs they wish to use to KEEP THEIR JOBS.

If we have reached the point where an entire party cannot do anything other than what they appear to be doing, the nation is IN EXTREMIS.

Perhaps then, the shutdown will be the defining moment.

God help those who will lose paychecks as pawns for Reid's Planned Parenthood falsehoods, and Pelosi's OUTRIGHT LIES over 6 million old people being deprived of food.

About the Muslim School Shooter From Brazil and The Possible South American Jihadi Invasion

From an Anonymous commenter:

Back in the early hours after the shooting, the papers identified the gunman as 23-year-old Wellington Oliveira, who had once attended the Tasso da Silveira school in a working-class neighborhood in western Rio. The public school was in the midst of celebrating its 40th anniversary, and students' handmade posters commemorating the day could be seen through school windows. "No motive was known, but authorities said the shooter left a rambling and mostly incoherent letter at the scene indicating he wanted to kill himself." The letter also explained in detail how Oliveira wanted his corpse to be cared for — bathed and wrapped in a white sheet that he left in a bag in the first room where he said he would start shooting. The letter also states that the gunman should not be touched by anyone who is "impure" unless they wear gloves. "If possible I want to be buried next to my mother. A follower of God must visit my grave at least once. He must pray before my grave and ask God to forgive me for what I have done," read the letter, portions of which were posted on the Globo television network's website. ********** GDSoB if it didn't turn out to be yet another f'n case of SJS - Sudden Jihad Syndrome. I hope the shooters body is impaled on a street lamp with his koran hanging from his shriveled nuts to rot while the public decimates him as they see fit.
More (googlish translation): "The shooter, Wellington Menezes de Oliveira, 24, sent the children to turn to the wall before killing them, said a student, Jade Ramos Araujo, 12 who was in school at the time of the attack. 'He shouted at the children: 'turn to the wall and I'll kill you!' The kids were screaming, begging: Do not kill me, no, lad! "Said the girl, adding that he would send some students to kneel before shooting. "I'll kill you,no use running" said Wellington. According to Jade, many children [ages 11-13] were in shock, without action, and others collapsed in the face of panic. "Many people went into shock, fainted on the stairs and then he killed them. Many people fainted. He fired at the feet of others, and the children started to ask: 'Help me, help me, do not let me die, " said the girl. The girl said, out of fear, avoided looking for the shooter. In the corridors of school, a scene I will never forget. "It looked like a waterfall of blood, blood running like water," she said. "There were many dead people on the stairs, more girls than boys." http://amandapp.tumblr.com/post/4430395354
security camera footage of Tasso da Silveira, Rio de Janeiro school shooting demonstrates the coldness of the killer and the panic of students attempting to escape. An injured boy is with his hand on his shouder. Children from an adjoining room flee before gunman changes rooms. In the right corner of the video the shooter tries to run toward the stairs but was stopped by a shot in the leg, then committing suicide.
local news video with raw footage of wounded students who managed to escape When the cameraman Rede Record entered the school, it was a scene of horror: Children shot while waiting for help - the gunman's body still lying on the stairs.
Brazil has a huge arab population , as do almost all the latin American countries. Just do a search of arabic/halal/zabiha restaurants in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico etc and that’ll explain why Hussein O is fighting tooth and nail to keep our southern border open and giving American tax dollars to Brazil to fund Soros' oil investments. Or just navigate and prepared to be alarmed latino dawah. org Our government is not keeping the borders open for farm-hands from mexico, its for drugs and jihadies ready to create terrifying jihad to bring this country to submission. Examine how well the demographic jihad is bringing around the EU, and how ethnic cleansing of African black muslim population through murder, rape and slavery transfers oil producing lands over to Arab muslim control to fund the ever expanding global dawa movement with the ever increasing bids to build mega mosques and those nefarious “Islam, believe it or else” interfaith dialogue centers.

FDR opposed repealing anti-Jewish Vichy laws in North Africa

I came upon a shocking article in the Jewish Journal (via Point of No Return and Emet m'Tsiyon) revealing some very telling details about FDR:
Among the more remarkable documents of the Holocaust is a scroll, created in North Africa in 1943, called “Megillat Hitler.” Written in the style of Megillat Esther and the Purim story, it celebrates the Allies’ liberation of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, which saved the local Jewish communities from the Nazis. What the scroll’s author did not realize, however, was that at the very moment he was setting quill to parchment, those same American authorities were actually trying to keep in place the anti-Jewish legislation imposed in North Africa by the Nazis.

On November 8, 1942, American and British forces invaded Nazi-occupied Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. It took the Allies just eight days to defeat the Germans and their Vichy French partners in the region.

For the 330,000 Jews of North Africa, the Allied conquest was heaven-sent. The Vichy regime that had ruled since the summer of 1940 had stripped the region’s Jews of their civil rights, severely restricted their entrance to schools and some professions, confiscated Jewish property, and tolerated sporadic pogroms against Jews by local Muslims. In addition, thousands of Jewish men were hauled away to forced-labor camps. President Franklin Roosevelt, in his victory announcement, pledged “the abrogation of all laws and decrees inspired by Nazi governments or Nazi ideologists.”

But there turned out to be a discrepancy between FDR’s public rhetoric and his private feelings.

On January 17, 1943, Roosevelt met in Casablanca with Major-General Charles Nogues, a leader of the new “non-Vichy” regime. When the conversation turned to the question of rights for North African Jewry, Roosevelt did not mince words: “The number of Jews engaged in the practice of the professions (law, medicine, etc) should be definitely limited to the percentage that the Jewish population in North Africa bears to the whole of the North African population… The President stated that his plan would further eliminate the specific and understandable complaints which the Germans bore toward the Jews in Germany, namely, that while they represented a small part of the population, over fifty percent of the lawyers, doctors, school teachers, college professors, etc., in Germany, were Jews.” (It is not clear how FDR came up with that wildly exaggerated statistic.)
But it is clear that he was not the champion of human rights some think he was. He betrayed Jews in Africa just as much as in Europe. For all we know, WW2 could probably have been won much more easily if a president with much more morale than FDR had was in power at the time.

What this suggests is that FDR didn't enter the war with full sincerity about routing evil, and if he was willing to leave anti-Jewish laws in North Africa, then he wasn't sincere about helping the Jewish community either. It even tells that he was basically siding with the Islamic entity in North Africa.

The Obamas are Taking a Vacation From Their Vacations While Living In Governemnt Housing and Being Unable To Balance a Budget

Daily Press:

FAA sets up no-fly zone for Obama's planned trip to Williamsburg

The leader of the free world may be coming to Williamsburg for some rest and relaxation if Congress is able to come to agreement on the budget. President Obama and the First Family are planning to visit the area this weekend in what the White House described Wednesday as a "long-planned family trip to Colonial Williamsburg."

But the trip might get grounded if a government shutdown can't be averted by Republicans and Democrats in Congress.

On Thursday morning, the Federal Aviation Administration established a no-fly zone over Williamsburg that will be in place from Friday through Monday. Jessica Wharton, spokeswoman for the Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport, said the no-fly zone will not affect the arrival and departure times at the airport for this weekend.

The announcement that Obama was coming generated excitement from Williamsburg Mayor Clyde Haulman. "I think it's terrific. Williamsburg was voted as the number one family destination," Haulman said. "The first family is coming to the first destination."

Haulman said that he didn't know where the Obamas would be staying or what was on their schedule. "I was just informed that they were coming. … I don't know where they're staying in Williamsburg," Haulman said.

Tom Shrout, a spokesman for Colonial Williamsburg, said that he had not received any confirmation on Wednesday that the Obamas would be visiting. "It'd be wonderful to have them visit the historic area," Shrout said. "But we've had no confirmation of it at this time. We'll see what tomorrow brings."

Like many Colonial Williamsburg visitors, the Obamas have two school-aged daughters who may be eager to learn about the history of the country their father leads.

The White House cautioned that the Obamas' plans would be altered if negotiations on the federal budget stall. According to news reports, the White House was planning to hold talks again Wednesday evening.

Remember "No Boots On The Ground"?

someone better start printing those "Obama lied, troops died" signs

General: U.S. may consider troops in Libya
Army Gen. Carter Ham says ground forces wouldn't be ideal, but may be a possible way to aid rebels; Says current operation largely stalemated

(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The United States may consider sending troops into Libya with a possible international ground force that could aid the rebels, according to the general who led the military mission until NATO took over.

Army Gen. Carter Ham also told lawmakers Thursday that added American participation would not be ideal, and ground troops could erode the international coalition and make it more difficult to get Arab support for operations in Libya.

Ham said the operation was largely stalemated now and was more likely to remain that way since America has transferred control to NATO.

He said NATO has done an effective job in an increasingly complex combat situation. But he noted that, in a new tactic, Muammar Qaddafi's forces are making airstrikes more difficult by staging military forces and vehicles near civilian areas such as schools and mosques.

The use of an international ground force is a possible plan to bolster rebels fighting forces loyal to the Libyan leader, Ham said at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

Asked if the U.S. would provide troops, Ham said, "I suspect there might be some consideration of that. My personal view at this point would be that that's probably not the ideal circumstance, again for the regional reaction that having American boots on the ground would entail."

President Barack Obama has said repeatedly there will be no U.S. troops on the ground in Libya, although there are reports of small CIA teams in the country. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates told lawmakers last week that there would be no American ground troops in Libya "as long as I am in this job."

Ham disclosed that the United States is providing some strike aircraft to the NATO operation that do not need to go through the special approval process recently established. The powerful side-firing AC-130 gunship is available to NATO commanders, he said.

Other strike aircraft, including fighters and the A-10 Thunderbolt, which can provide close air support for ground forces, must be requested through U.S. European Command and approved by top U.S. leaders, including Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Ham said that process is quick, and other defense officials have said it can take about a day for the U.S. to approve the request and move the aircraft in from bases in Europe.

Ham said recent bad weather and threats from Qaddafi's mobile surface-to-air missile systems hampered efforts to use aircraft like the AC-130 and the A-10 to provide close air support for friendly ground forces. He says those conditions contributed to the stalemate.

Since the U.S. handed off the strike mission to NATO, U.S. planes account for only 15 percent of NATO planes now doing those air attacks, Ham said.

Meanwhile, rebel fighters claimed NATO airstrikes blasted their forces Thursday in another apparent mistake that sharply escalated anger about coordination with the military alliance in efforts to cripple Libyan forces. At least two rebels were killed and more than a dozen injured, a doctor said.

The attack - near the front lines outside the eastern oil port of Brega - would be the second accidental NATO strike against rebel forces in less than a week and brought cries of outrage from fighters struggling against Muammar Qaddafi's larger and more experienced military.

"Down, down with NATO," shouted one fighter as dozens of rebel vehicles raced eastward from the front toward the rebel-held city of Ajbadiya.

Mass Media on Egypt: Admitting in April What Was Obvious in February

I now understand that the purpose of the mass media is to report on things that don’t fit the agenda only after they have happened and are so blindingly obvious that ignoring them is impossible. Oh yes, and by then it’s also too late to avoid catastrophes.

What prompted that conclusion is seeing that the mass media reports in April what was completely clear — and which I reported–in February. I mean, just look at this Los Angeles Times article:

“The secular reformers and twenty-something urbanites at the vanguard of Egypt’s Jan. 25 revolution have found themselves eclipsed. They lack experience and grass-roots networks to compete with the Muslim Brotherhood and other religious groups that have quietly stoked their passions for this moment. In a sense, Mubarak’s obsession with both co-opting and crushing Islamists instilled in them the discipline and organization that now propels their political agendas.”

Or in other words:

– Yes, it was obvious back in January that this was a small group that would inevitably be eclipsed, but the mass media and the Obama administration said they would run the country and transform it into a liberal, modern democracy.

– Yes, it was obvious back in January that the Brotherhood was well-organized, strong, determined, and possessing a compelling ideology. Will someone please compile a list of U.S. government, media, and “expert” statements saying the exact opposite?

– Ha! Notice how the last sentence tries to blame Mubarak for this outcome? What they should be saying is: We were wrong when we said that it was a lie perpetrated by dictatorships that the only choice was them or the radicals. You are welcome to dig up quotes on that point.

“The military council ruling the country has astounded many by permitting Islam a wider role. The Muslim Brotherhood, the largest opposition party, expects a strong showing in September’s parliamentary elections. In Egypt’s first taste of true democracy, the Brotherhood and more fundamentalist Salafist organizations told followers that it was their religious duty to vote to approve a referendum on constitutional amendments that benefited Islamists by speeding up elections. One of Egypt’s leading ultraconservative sheiks, Mohamed Hussein Yacoub, influenced by Saudi Arabia’s Wahhabi strain of Islam, was quoted as saying after the referendum had passed: ‘That’s it. The country is ours.’”

– I wasn’t astounded. We have been watching growing pro-Islamist feeling in the Egyptian army for years.
– Yes, I guess you never thought that an Islamist group in a highly religious country (even by Muslim and Arab standards) would tell people persuasively that it was their religious duty to vote for Islamists. Allah wants you to vote for me! Pretty good campaign slogan. Even better than: Yes we can (turn Egypt into an Islamist state, fight Israel, and tell America to go drink the Nile).

– Yes, we were repeatedly told that the Islamists were scared because peaceful democracy is shown to work.
Memo to experts, journalists, and government officials:

A revolutionary movement seeks to seize state power as its goal. A strategy is their long-term plan for doing so. Tactics are specific actions designed to fulfill that strategy and to achieve that goal. Violence and terrorism are only a tactic. If needed, other tactics — running for elections, building a base through social welfare services, etc. — can be used within the strategy to fulfill the goal.

Consequently, the use of elections or setting up afterschool activities for kids do not prove that a group isn’t a radical and dangerous organization. And, besides, afterschool activities are good for spotting potential suicide bomber candidates.

Is it too much to ask that highly trained, expensively educated, and well-paid people who make decisions and report or analyze events understand the previous two paragraphs?
