A state of ambivalent denial

Ok, my turn MR.

As soon as I heard that there was more than one bomb, my mind started turning away from it being domestic. Domestic bombings tend to be one, maybe a very big one (Oklahoma City), but just one.

But that's not what went thru the minds of most in America, including obviously, the President and his men.

Then, when I heard about the ball barrings and other material, my mind went to everything I had read about the bombings in Israel.

In no way did I think domestic.

But that's not what went thru the minds of most in America, including obviously, the President and his men.

I think the problem that a lot of people here in the US have, is a state of ambivalent denial.

Fact is, we have been spoiled rotten.

Unlike many other countries, including those in Europe, we have not had many bombs go off. And most of those that have, have been done by domestic wackos.

It is easier to deal mentally with a domestic wacko, then it is to deal mentally with an enemy (terrorist). It is also why so many people want to classify the latter with the former, justice wise.

Nobody likes or wants war. And if what happened was the action of an enemy, they know that war could follow.

In fact, if we were to get bombed by North Korea, most people would push for the leader to go before the Hague, rather than us following up on the act of war, in an act of war.

How would/will people react if/when suicide bombers start doing their business here?

Would they jump to the conclusion that some domestic wacko simply was feeling suicidal?

And then, after another 2 or 3 do it, this suicidal behavior by some domestic wacko, has "caught on"?

Even the President is having a hard time calling this act in Boston, terrorism.

What would the President call it, if we get bombed by another country?

Overheated bluster?

Can you name one domestic terror attack that targeted unidentified innocent bystanders. You can't. Even the weather underground were specific in their targets, government, police.
When people are attacked, they are targeted, gays, Christian, Democrats or Republican, homophobic, military, whatever the target it is specific. Indiscriminate "casting terror into the hearts" has only one source.
