Mr. AOW and I are going out to one of our favorite restaurants.
No big splurge on this day, the actual date of our anniversary, because in August we'll be going on a week's vacation at a classy resort — our first vacation since 2007. Best end-of-year teacher present ever!

The other day in my office here at home, I found that long email that you wrote to me back in 2009. Remember? I never got around to answering it. Things are better here now -- but far, far from "normal."
AOW, yes, I remember the note and believe me when I state that I understand limits with available extra time.
I read this site regularly - as time permits - but must continue to post comments as anonymous because google's captcha feature persistently prohibits me from signing in. This bug has persisted ever since I refused to submit a 'valid' land line (or 'valid' cell phone number) to regain access to my (now defunct)HRW g-mail account. C'est la vie.

Yes, I know from that email you sent me back in 2009 that you have a full appreciation of what a mess the AOW household is in.
So, what do you think of the world's political situation over the past few years? Is the West going to go down with barely a whimper?
I wouldn't characterize the fall as going down with "barely a whimper" at all. If that were true and if the main stream media narrative/polls were accurate the current administration wouldn't be utilizing surveillance data to identify and stifle opposition.
Notice how not a single individual with access to this data takes responsibility. . .feigning ignorance or claiming this invasion of privacy is/was/and will continue to be for the greater good and under the current administration's interpretation of legal limits. ..permitted.
No, it won't be without a whimper (if indeed this administration succeeds), but the quickly expanding and ferocious backlash IS being stifled with everything this administration can use to muzzle any hint of Constitutional (counter-progressive) backlash. Just keep any Rx for acid reduction and hypertension up to date to be prepared for the OMG! posts. Time will tell. -HRW
