Louisiana State Senator leaves the Democratic Party, now a Republican
Reporting
a few hours ago, Louisiana Democratic State Senator Elbert L.
Guillory who represents Louisiana’s Senate District 24 announced
that he is no longer a democrat and has become a Frederick Douglass
Republican.
Guillory
attended a conference called @Large and announced his switch by
saying,
“With
each passing day, I have become disappointed in the Democratic Party.
What would be an impact on schools due to immigration? One of the
biggest disappointment has been breakdown of American families. Their
policies have encouraged the high teen birth rate, high school drop
out rates, high unemployment. Children are encouraged to get the
crazy check instead of hunkering down to get an education. Minority
unemployment is in the stratosphere.”
Guillory
continued by saying, “I want better for my country and Louisiana.
We must help America find her path home. The people in this room
today seek an alternative and solution to these problems of America.
We have received some pretty good deals under the Republican Party.
Republicans helped LBJ pass Civil Rights Act over objection of most
Democrats. President Nixon left Vietnam and brought the money home
and invested in America, Obama hasn’t done anything like that.”
“I
pledged my dues and I look forward to creating new partnerships in
the State of Louisiana. I am on this day, joining Frederick Douglass
as a Republican.”
Dupree
of Newsninja2012 said in relation to the announcement, “Wow, what
huge news this is! Senator Elbert L. Guillory represents Louisiana
Senate District 24, made an announcement today that will certainly
rock the State of Louisiana for weeks to come. In the face of what
happened a couple of days ago with Karen Carter Peterson speaking
about those who oppose Obamacare are racist, today’s breaking news
was a breath of fresh air from a common sense individual.”
Guillory’s
announcement is sure to shock those in his district as well within
the Democratic Party but it also appears that Guillory’s decision
to switch parties may have been the final straw when one of his
Democratic colleagues, State Sen. Karen Carter Peterson stated that
those who do not support President Obama’s health care plan are
racist.
Karen
Carter Peterson, who also chairs the Louisiana Democratic Party said
Monday, “It's not about how many federal dollars we can receive.
It's not about that,' she told her fellow lawmakers. You ready? It's
about race. No, nobody wants to talk about that. It’s about the
race of this African-American president.”
After
Peterson made the racist comments, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal
critisized her for name-calling and calling people a racist, and
asked for an apology.
To show just how quickly this has come about, here is a screenshot of a google search I did for Elbert L. Guillory: (I underlined Democrat)
