The EMP attack scenario .. not likely to cause nationwide disaster

Multiple sources document that an effective altitude for an EMP attack is NO LESS than 40km. or 132,000 feet.

Here is AEI:
In many respects, an EMP attack is a unique and unprecedented threat to the United States. EMP is a high-intensity burst of electromagnetic energy caused by the rapid acceleration of charged particles. EMP is most often created from gamma rays emitted during a nuclear explosion. At altitudes between 40 to 400 kilometers, these gamma rays produce high-energy free electrons that give rise to an oscillating electric current that destroys electronic equipment
Other sources agree. A nuclear detonation for this purpose would have no more effect in this manner than it it in Hiroshima or Nagasaki. If a terrorist could outfit an aircraft this way, they simply have a B-52 kamikaze mission  which would probably have to be carried out coming in under radar from a VERY long distance, against a, NOW, forewarned defense.

Well, that's good to know.

Ok. Was just a thought ;-)

While the frequency spectrum of EMP is higher than that of lightning, consider that we have thousands of radio and TV transmitting towers and tens of thousands of cell phone towers, many of which get directly struck by lightning each year and are not knocked off the air. Now of course some are.

We also have many tens of thousands of miles of power lines that struck each year and most continue to function.

Yes, EMP can disable electronic and electrical devices. The problem for its use as a weapon is that nobody can accurately predict how much damage it will really do, nor which devices will be destroyed and which will remain usable.

Having said that, it is just flat imprudent to not take steps to at least reduce the likelihood that major power grid infrastructure will be damaged by an EMP. This is especially true since a solar flare or even an asteroid hitting the atmosphere could cause a "Compton Event" that results in an EMP.

This is doubly troubling given that the present regime's war on coal has reduced the baseload generating capacity and thus greatly reduced the resiliency and in-depth reserves of electric utilities. It will take less damage today to have a significant area that lacks power for long periods than it used to.

It's just a relief to know this cannot be a nationwide, or east coast, or west coast calamity EXCEPT at altitudes for a ballistic missile

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370: Satellite 'handshake' may point to plane

KOTA BARU: Fariq Abdul Hamid (pic), the first officer of the missing MH370, was planning to marry a fellow pilot from another airline.

A report in the Sabah-based Daily Express said that Capt Nadira Ramli, 26, who is attached with AirAsia, is a daughter of a senior Malaysia Airlines pilot.

She is now with Fariq’s distraught mother at an undisclosed hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Conflicting info provided in the above link @ 12:49.....

Quote: Both had studied at the Langkawi pilot school and had known each other for nine years.
Vs.
"Local press here attempted to interview Fariq’s uncle, Aziz Daud, 47, at his home in Bunut Susu, Pasir Mas, yesterday but was politely refused.

He had been advised by MAS and the relevant government ministries to not speak to the press, Aziz said.

However, Fariq’s cousin, who declined to be named, said the pilot never went to school in Kelantan as he was brought up in Kuala Lumpur.

It seems like the major information has already come out.

The pilot's political opinions are probably not related to this action. The pilot may have had nothing, or little to do with this.

This is not an internecine squabble in Malaysia. This is international Jihad.

The stakes are higher than anything ever before attempted.

This is 9/11 +++

THIS IS NOT BECAUSE OF SOME HOMOSEXUAL POLITICIAN WHO WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING POWER AND WAS UNDER ATTACK IN MALAYSIA.

Excerpt from the Daily Mail article:

"An image has emerged of the pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet wearing a T-shirt with a 'Democracy is Dead' slogan as it has been revealed he could have hijacked the plane in an anti-government protest.
Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, a father-of-three, was said to be a 'fanatical' supporter of the country's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim - jailed for homosexuality just hours before the jet disappeared."

Think about it. What the fuck kind of sense does that make?

The plane was stolen as part of an international Jihad plot to be used in a large-scale attack later.

Hence the fact that there was no communication, no claiming of responsibility, etc.

This was not a political statement about a gay politician.

Pastorius said...

The media have tried to absolve Islam of responsibility for this act ever since it happened.

The gay politician is just another in a long line of obfuscations and diversions.

Politics aside, both pilots had backgrounds which point to probable skills needed to pull this off.

However, the political bend may prove far more relevant when you consider this:

BREAKING NEWS: Anwar Ibrahim Claims He Can Bring Down Malaysian Government

Ibrahim has many known ties to the global U.S Muslim Brotherhood including helping to found the International Institute of Islamic Thought IIIT) where he currently serves as a director, representing Asian youth and serving as a trustee for the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) during the 1970′s and early 1980′s, and appearances at numerous Brotherhood-linked conferences. Police investigate flight engineer over disappearance of missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370

"
The man, named as Mohd Khairul Amri Selamat, 29, is a Malaysian who is believed to have worked for a private jet charter

It comes as authorities focus on the pilots and anyone else on board who had technical flying knowledge.

"Yes, we are looking into Mohd Khairul as well as the other passengers and crew. The focus is on anyone else who might have had aviation skills on that plane," a senior police official with knowledge of the investigations said."

And last night they were given a major boost after the authorities admitted for the first time the missing Malaysia Airlines jet may have landed rather than crashed.

As the search, widened a senior official in Kuala Lumpur confirmed it was “possible” satellite signals from the plane could have been sent while it was on the ground
