1:40 a.m. Oh for Pete's sake now DPD Chief Brown says they are negotiating and exchanging gunfire (that's some one way negotiating) with a suspect in the parking garage who claims there are bombs in the garage. He also says they are not comfortable/sure that they have all the suspects in custody/in negotiation. A fourth police officer has died of his wounds..
1:10 a.m. DPD state 2 suspects in custody, both alive, threat to public is over.
Update at 12:10 a.m. News conference with DPD Chief: 11 officers shot, 3 of them are dead including 1 DART officer. 1 civilian injured but no details on that. DPD has reason to believe the suspects have planted a bomb in the area have called on FBI & ATF to help look for it. 1 suspect is "cornered" no info on where the other may be.
It is clear the police were strategically targeted and ambushed.
Update:: Local Fox news reporting 3 officers dead, 2 in surgery, 3 more gravely injured. Not clear what the mix of regular Dallas police vs DART (Dallas Area Regional Transport) but 10 cops targeted by 2 (known) snipers (their words).
Original post:
The way the tv news is reporting it it sounds as if there are several shooters acting almost as snipers at a peaceful protest over recent police shootings.
No one arrested or stopped yet this is still an active situation.
Fox TV is reporting variously 1 may be subdued, one may still be active, they were in camo and ski masks. TV reporting is 3 to 6 officers have been shot, some gravely.
This is al still very early reporting.
Fox:
At least two police officers reportedly shot during Dallas protest
DEVELOPING: At least two police officers were shot Thursday night in downtown Dallas during a protest over the recent fatal shootings of African Americans by police. Fox News' Dallas affiliate KDFW-Fox4, citing a uniformed officer, reported that the officers were shot, but their conditions were unknown.
Fox4 is reporting that a suspect is down and a second possible suspect — wearing what appeared to be a bullet-proof and tactical gear — may be in a nearby parking garage, but that report was not confirmed.
Fox4 also was reporting that as many as six officers were wounded in the shooting, but that, too, was not confirmed.
Fox4 cameras captured protesters running away from the scene of the shooting shortly before 9 p.m. local time. A cameraman approached the scene and captured officers apparently lying on the ground
A Fox4 reporter said he heard approximately 10 gunshots downtown. That reporter was told by an officer police were searching for someone with a rifle.
The status of the shooter was not immediately clear. Aerial images showed officers appearing to focus their search on a parking garage.
Witness Carlos Harris told the Dallas Morning News the gunfire was "strategic. It was tap-tap-pause. Tap-tap-pause."
Michael Batista told KDFW the protest march had been "very peaceful" before the shooting started.

Looks to have been a war on cops.
And Obama will say...?
Now I'm hearing "a female was involved."
Yup on the female. 2 other people in custody as well. And Fox was just talking about that very ISIS threat.
STILL exchanging gunfire with the sniper in the garage
MR,
Yes, still exchanging gunfire. WTF?
No names of suspects yet, right?
Nope not yet. Still a fluid situation.
It is the the deadliest attack on U.S. law enforcement since Sept. 11, 2001.
AOW asks "And Obama will say..."?
Obama will say it's time for Congress to act to outlaw the ownership of scoped rifles by private citizens.
After the last two shootings of suspects, Mrs Epa and I watched Tyrant and then Hallmark Movies Xmas in July week, to wake up this am to a nascent civil war begun by this John Brown attack?
Suspect(s) plan an overt attack on the civil authorities, hold their ground in violent 'defense', negotiate and then suicide and surrender (promising bombs are all over the place)
#BLM on crack?
ISIS taking advantage of same?
What it wasn't was some emotionally over the edge protestors pissed at police unjustified murders of innocent Americans
Watching the video of one of the attackers moving TOWARDS the police who were shooting at him one cannot escape the observation that this looked like training and discipline.
Waiting for some evidence on this is going to be difficult
BTW, every society in the history of humankind when faced with CIVIL disorder and CIVIL VIOLENCE>>supresses
Think about what happened out west with the BLM, and think about this and what happened.
In the former, weapons were used to MAKE THE POINT against BLM and the threat of violence was a deterrent to govt force.
Nothing like this occurred last night.
Last night was a weird amalgam of Viet Cong and ISIS spiced by a demonstration over what APPEARS to be unjustified shooting of black men by cops.
But I have a question, how many shootings of OTHER THAN AMERICANS WHO HAPPEN TO BE BLACK occur, by white cops or any other race?
Do we keep this stat?
I hope the fuck not.
Are we going to PROFILE cops by race to see how many of other races or religions, or heritage they shoot?
DFW is my community. But the story does not "match" our overall community posture. Police officers will join Americans for scheduled coffee breaks at MacDonalds, run youth sports programs, generally well-respected in my city of Irving. We have bicycle cops peddling the streets in helmets and shorts in the hotter months.
Misty McBride, one officer, suffered an abdominal and arm wound. The deceased are being taken to the Medical Examiners office but sheets are being used as curtains out of respect for the dead, to keep their remains from public view.
The Dallas official line is that snipers shot the officers. It seems a line of fire was laid down from a parking garage.
But there is about a 12 block area of downtown which is now a giant crime scene. Thousands of American workers will be unable to get to their jobs today. Hopefully, they can return to work on Monday.
Our city is in shock.
Our Senator, Pete Sessions, gave a telephone interview and sounded like an idiot. He mentioned "Americans have changed" and in the same breath used San Bernardino and Orlando as his examples. Really? He did state that we have combustible violence. But I am royally pissed that he said "Americans" and the two locales in the same sentence.
* Unusual to have a female shooter. That is troubling.
Tammy: What you say sounds similar to what happened in my town of Charleston, SC last year. Some white racist asshole drove into our city and slaughtered 9 black Americans in a church.
This in city where race relations are as cordial as anywhere on earth. The shooter even complained on his website that Charleston didn't have any skinheads or an active KKK. Still we got it shafted good for our Confederate memorials and other historical pointers to a long gone era.
It is outrageous to hear the no-nothing media telling the rest of the world what they want them believe about your city and you know it is entirely false! They will likely pile on DFW in a like manner over the next couple of days.
Anonymous,
They will likely pile on DFW in a like manner over the next couple of days.
