Notre Dame Cathedral Locked Down...Situation Now Resolved

From the UK Espress and reports on cable news...

A man with a hammer attacked multiple officers with a hammer. Some 2,000 tourists were locked inside the cathedral. The police shot and wounded the man, and the tourists inside the cathedral were marched out with hands in the air.

From Reuters:
Police in Paris shot and wounded a man who attacked an officer outside the Notre Dame cathedral on Tuesday, the Paris police headquarters said.

Police had earlier said they were dealing with an incident in the courtyard outside the world-famous tourist site and warned the public to stay away.

Police sources said the officers shot at the man after he had threatened them with a hammer and refused to stop.

One officer was lightly injured and the assailant was shot in the thorax, according to one source.

The motive for the attack was not immediately known.
Update from the Guardian:
...Yves Lefebvre, a police spokesman, said: “The man approached a police officer, took a hammer from his backpack and hit the police officer over the head. His colleague saw what happened and shot him [the attacker]. I understand the police officer who was attacked is slightly hurt.”

An American man who was in Notre Dame on Tuesday afternoon tweeted from inside the cathedral:

I can only hope they are raising their hands to ask Jesus to save them, because apparently, nobody else is up to the task.
