A parent shouting Allahu Akbar and thought to be wearing an explosive vest has been shot dead by French police near Paris after allegedly beheading a school teacher with a knife.
The victim was said to have been a school teacher who had enraged parents by displaying cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed to pupils.
A source told Le Parisien: ‘The victim had recently given a lesson to his students on freedom of expression and had shown the caricatures of Muhammad’....
Update, according to Fox News: Initial reports stated that the teacher had been beheaded, but subsequent reports have said that the attacker instead slit the teacher's throat.
A man with a hammer attacked multiple officers with a hammer. Some 2,000 tourists were locked inside the cathedral. The police shot and wounded the man, and the tourists inside the cathedral were marched out with hands in the air. From Reuters:

Police had earlier said they were dealing with an incident in the courtyard outside the world-famous tourist site and warned the public to stay away.
Police sources said the officers shot at the man after he had threatened them with a hammer and refused to stop.
One officer was lightly injured and the assailant was shot in the thorax, according to one source.
The motive for the attack was not immediately known.

PARIS (AP) -- Police officials in France say there has been a shootout in a Paris restaurant and an explosion in a bar near a Paris stadium.
BFM television says there were several dead in the restaurant shooting in the 10th arrondissement of the capital. Two police officials confirmed the shooting but had no information about casualties.
Also late Friday, two explosions were heard outside the Stade de France stadium north of Paris during a France-Germany friendly football match. It was unclear if the events were linked.
A police official confirmed one explosion in a bar near the stadium. It is unclear whether there are casualties.
An Associated Press reporter in the stadium Friday night heard two explosions loud enough to penetrate the sounds of cheering fans. Sirens were immediately heard, and a helicopter was circling overhead.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to be publicly named.

As we try to make sense of exactly what is going on, The Telegraph's David Chazan has this summary of what we know: At least 18 people were killed and “many wounded” in a series of attacks in Paris by gunmen armed with kalashnikovs and grenades on Friday evening, police said. Grenades were reportedly thrown at a stadium in the north of the French capital where a football match between France and Germany was being held, witnesses said. The first shooting to be reported took place at a Cambodian restaurant in the 10th arrondissement of the city, an area with many crowded bars and restaurants, particularly busy on Friday evening. A second shooting was reported minutes later near a nightclub in the area, Le Bataclan, where gunmen were said to be holding hostages. Later grenades were said to have been thrown at a stadium in the north of the city where a football match between France and Germany was being held. Large numbers of police rushed to the scene of the first attack, a Cambodian restaurant in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital. They evacuated nearby bars and restaurants. The motive of the shootings is unknown, but Parisians feared that terrorists had again attacked the French capital, where 17 people were killed in a series of attacks in January that began with the shootings of staff at the office of the Charlie Hebdo magazine. Paris, France, (January 7, 2015): The offices of Charlie Hebdo, noted for satiric cartoons lampooning Islam, were attacked. A few days later, an Islamic terrorist attack was perpetrated upon a Jewish deli. Sixteen killed, twenty-two wounded in these attacks.
Copenhagen, Denmark (February 14, 2015): A café hosting "Freedom of Expression and Art Blasphemy," a free-speech seminar, was attacked. At this seminar, cartoonist Lars Vilks was scheduled to speak; he may have been the primary target of the Islamic terrorist, who fired as many as 200 rounds. A few hours later, a Jewish cultural center (a synagogue) was attacked. See the Daily Mail for more information. The suspect, on a watch list, apparently lived in the Nørrebro District of Copenhagen. The Nørrebro District is poly-cultural; a significant portion of those living there are Arabs, Turks, Pakistanis, Bosnians, Somalians, and Albanians. Two dead, five wounded in these attacks.

ANTAKYA, Turkey — An ISIS operative traveled across the Syrian border late last year, settled in a Turkish port city, and began work on a mission to sneak jihadis into Europe. It has been successful, he said, in an interview near the Turkey-Syria border: “Just wait.”
The operative, a Syrian in his thirties with a close-cropped black beard, said ISIS is sending covert fighters to Europe — as did two smugglers who said they have helped. He smuggles them from Turkey in small groups, he said, hidden in cargo ships filled with hundreds of refugees.
He said the fighters intend to fulfill ISIS’s threat to stage attacks in the West. He views this as retaliation for U.S.-led airstrikes against the group that began in Iraq last summer and Syria last fall.
“If someone attacks me,” he said, speaking with BuzzFeed News on condition of anonymity, “then for sure I will attack them back.”
Western governments worried even before the airstrikes that ISIS would find ways to get its battle-hardened fighters across their borders.
The operative is the first ISIS member involved in these plans to discuss them with the press.
He detailed a scheme that takes advantage of the worst humanitarian crisis in a generation, which has sent 3.8 million refugees fleeing Syria’s civil war, pouring more than 1.5 million into Turkey alone.
From Turkish port cities like Izmir and Mersin, many thousands of these refugees have ventured across the sea, aiming mainly for Italy. Then they often make for more welcoming countries like Sweden and Germany, turning themselves over to authorities and appealing for asylum.
The operative said he worked with smugglers to slip fighters into this chaotic human tide. “They are going like refugees,” he said.
Two refugee-smugglers in Turkey said they helped ISIS send fighters to Europe in this way.
One put more than 10 of them on his ships, then got cold feet when asked to send more, he told BuzzFeed News last fall. Another said he’d been sending ISIS fighters for months and continues to do so.
“I’m sending some fighters who want to go and visit their families,” he said in an interview in southern Turkey, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Others just go to Europe to be ready.”
Among his colleagues in the port city where he works, the smuggler has a reputation for transporting fighters. BuzzFeed News contacted him after meeting the ISIS operative, seeking to investigate the operative’s claims.
At first he denied that he smuggled fighters at all; then he said he needed “permission” to discuss the issue with a journalist. Soon after he revealed that he worked for the ISIS operative, who confirmed this and allowed the interview.
The smuggler said some fighters were Syrian. He could tell from their accents that others hailed from elsewhere in the Middle East, while still others spoke Arabic poorly, or not at all. Some told him they were from European countries, he said, and a few claimed to be from the U.S.

via Telegraph @ 14.25: Amedy Coulibaly in the kosher grocery siege in eastern Paris is reportedly demanding through hostage negotiators that the Kouachi brothers - currently part of a seige in Dammartin-en-Goele - be "freed".
Coulbaly, a Frenchman of Senegalese descent from Juvisy in the Essonne area outside Paris, was part of the now notorious Buttes-Chaumont network that sought to recruit and sent radicalised French youths to Iraq in the early 2000s.
The Koachi brothers were also part of the network, based in Paris’ 19th
arrondissement.
One of 10 children and the only boy, Coulibaly became a delinquent at 17, and a repeat offender for petty thefts and drugs crimes, moving onto an armed bank robbery in September 2002 in Orleans, in the Loiret, before radicalising.
In 2013, he was convicted to five years in prison for his involvement in a
botched prison break-out of Smain Ali Belkacem, a former member of the
Algerian Islamist group GIA and the author of a 1995 attack on the Paris
transport system that killed eight people and wounded 117.
The Koachi brothers were arrested and detained for involvement in the
Belkacem breakout, but later released due to lack of evidence.
According to Le Monde, the Coulbaly and Boumeddiene were already in a relationship in 2010, when he was arrested over the jailbreak attempt. She reportedly waited for her boyfriend to be released from prison this Spring after four years in detention, and he lived with her after that in a Paris suburb.
The pair reportedly visited Beghal in 2010 in Cantal, southern France,
where he was under house arrest. That year, French surveillance officers
photographed Beghal playing football with Cherif Kouachi and two other
convicted terrorists, Ahmed Laidouni, a jihadi recruiter, and Farid Melouk,
an Algerian member of the GIA terror group.
Quizzed by French intelligence agents at the time, Boumeddiene told them that she and Coulbaly had gone there to practice “crossbow shooting”

The mayor's office in Paris announced the closures Friday of shops along the Rosiers street in Paris' Marais neighborhood, in the heart of the tourist district and about a kilometer away from the offices of newspaper Charlie Hebdo where 12 people were killed on Wednesday.
Hours before the Jewish Sabbath, the street is usually especially rowded with shoppers - French Jews and tourists alike.
The Vincennes region of eastern Paris in which the second, grocery hostage situation is taking place has a large Jewish population.
There has also been speculation that the attack in which a policewoman was killed yesterday in Montrouge was an aborted attempt to attack a Jewish school there.

Several people have been killed by armed gunmen in a shooting at the Paris offices of a satirical magazine, according to French media reports.
Shooting was heard at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine known for publishing controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in 2012.
"Several men in black cagoules were heard to shout 'the Prophet has been avenged'", wrote Pierre de Cossette, a broadcast journalist with Europe1 News.
"I think there are casualties," said the publication's cartoonist, Renaud Luzier.
The magazine is based in Paris's 11th arrondissement.
It should be clearer than ever now that France is under siege by jihad, and this was bound to happen. But is the leftist government now in charge going to take effective action? There's no telling if they will.

REUTERS - Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters marched in French cities on Saturday to condemn violence in Gaza, defying a ban imposed after demonstrators marched on two synagogues in Paris last weekend and clashed with riot police.
A Reuters photographer said demonstrators in northern Paris launched projectiles at riot police, who responded by firing teargas canisters and stun grenades.

The Muslims have been taking over more and more streets for Friday prayers. They block off roads, put their rugs out on the sidewalk as well as the street, deprive shop owners of business for two and a half hours, deprive residents of the street from entering or leaving their apartments for that time, they act aggressively toward non-muslims and women pedestrians who still try to use the street.

Several helpful suggestions were made in the Comments section, such as flinging handfuls of chopped pork from the rooftops, having a priest sprinkle holy water and tell them they're all converted, everybody walking their dogs through the crowd, out-of-control 18-wheelers, and the ever popular water cannon.
Apparently nobody ever thought of trying even the simplest of these. They just dhimmied up and let it happen.
