“Shithole” hysteria

Haiti and Norway, hmmm? Maybe google images tells that story better than anyone.
So originally, my theory for this post as going to be to find an engineer from Haiti and a loser from Norway and strip from them any identifying features, present them as two bios and ask which would be preferable as in immigrant. But when I searched for “engineers from Haiti” this is what I found
There is a SINGLE mention of an engineer who MIGHT NOT be an American. She attended high school in Maryland, went to Washington U (great school) in St Louis,, and works for General Mills and apparently is about to add an MBA to her qualities. Nearly ALL the other references are about Americans, and American organizations GOING to Haiti to help.
Now there is no doubt that part of the reason Haiti is in the condition it is in is the USA. From WW1 on, when the Germans were trying to establish a naval and submarine base there, we had various strategic interests which did NOT help their national condition.
Help HAS gone there, however. The University of Haiti was rebuilt by the Dominican Republic. Americans are ensuring fresh clean water is made available (hopefully this kind of help is being PREFERENTIALLY sent to  Puerto Rico ..hello AMERICANS? .. now, however), etc.
Of course, built into this view of ‘SHITHOLE’ is that those coming here from Haiti are desperate, poor, unskilled, and in need of help, BY AMERICANS (i.e. aid from the govt), when they arrive.
And the opposite view is that those coming from a western democracy, a developed first world state, are coming here for ACQUIRED POSITIONS, and will contribute to the USA immediately. This is not racist.
Immigration is what MADE America, right? But think of those streaming here from ~1880-1924. These are the people whose children guided, fought, and won WW2. They had no aid, they had relatives or NO ONE, and they began on their own. Right now, today, the USA’s aid programs cost us $398Bn (2015), that is 88% of the $454Bn we pay for INTEREST on the national debt. Our balance of payments with China (who just announced a change in their plans to continue buying american govt securities..they are reducing/stopping) is now at a RECORD HIGH.
This is not 1880, or 1950. This is not ECONOMICALLY, that USA, How much MORE can we do? How much more SHOULD we do?
RIGHT NOW.
WHY do others want more and more UNSKILLED immigration?
The FACTS are that people from Haiti are bound to be, in the VAST majority, less skilled, compared to (especially) Scandinavians. Pick a family at random from each. HOW IT IS. Not racism FACT.
I’m sorry it is that way, but it IS that way.
Maybe in 20 years we can RESUME mass immigration from from outside. I hope we can.
But right now, this racism hysteria is not just false, it is an opportunistic enforced spittle laced frenzy which is a circle jerk born of cynical political source to virtue signal to their tribe it is time to caterwaul about the evildoers.
Keep on. Build the wall. Enforce border security, Fulfill ONE of the 2 LARGEST campaign promises .. the Wall and Free trade. Ignore the hysteria, and for god’s sake, Trump, think of what you are saying and who you are saying it to.

Enjoyed your post.

After my grandmother died, my grandfather entered a dental school for individuals seeking to benefit third-world countries. In his sixties, he was still living and working in Haiti, funded by U.S. benefactors.

Soon, women came to him to have their babies delivered. For them, a doctor... is a doctor.

Prior to his death, my grandfather had delivered 10,000 neonates. A remarkable American.

Why is it that an American man in his sixties travels to a place like Haiti to provide care? Well, we all know the inconvenient truth. Haiti is a shithole.

Members of my church have traveled to Haiti to set up water filtration stations.

Bringing illiterate, semi-literate immigrants from highly corrupted systems of governance means we are importing both burden and potential perpetuation of tribal lines of thought. These patterns of doing business are not divested on arrival to U.S. soil.

Loving the individual and providing for the poor can be "Love thy Neighbor" without allowance of chaotic and unlawful migratory patterns.

I fully support merit-based migration. Can the individual strengthen our Republican fabric and FULLY provide for their own needs? Come! Otherwise, let's just allow about 5 billion people to join us. Most of the world... DOES NOT look like America. We cannot fix THAT.

I personally noticed the hysterical response to Trump's alleged "shithole" comment fizzle in my circle of contacts. All - ALL recognize Haiti IS a shithole. Those of whom vacation by cruise line admit they now for go any itinerary which includes Haiti, since they've already been there prior to the recent destructive earthquake. Published crime stats on that island kept most from venturing on non-cruise sponsored tours IF they decided to leave the ship, even back then.

The news failed to outrage it's targeted audience - for long. Then came the excuses - Haiti's condition is a result of generations of failed governance and we cannot blame poverty conditions on the culture. Even that level of apologism failed. Haitians embrace a heritage that reaches far deeper than the % of melanin in their skin. They cling to oppositional behaviors/thought (tribal lines of thought) which conflicts with our own cultural behaviors/beliefs.
Throw in manufactured grievance measures heaped upon the black community with the BLM SJ movement and the situation becomes ever more hostile.
Yes, Haitian governance has failed it's people. Haitian culture deprives itself just as the Muslim culture intentionally/doctrinally deprives itself of Western values.
It's what they know, what they deny, yet demand they are entitled. Entitled to economic gains, entitled to cultural respect, entitled to grievances against the West for not accepting their entitltements.

I tire of the diversity card. Hell, America is already diverse. My south city neighborhood? Ninety-one percent of the students are non-white, many foreign nationals. In a few years Texas will be a state where Caucasians are a minority. So we do not have to prove anything. Been there, done that, we have the trophy for national diversity. Agree. Pigment is not the problem.

Last night, a colleague whom I highly respect heard me talking to a team-member at Ibloga regarding the latest comment by Trump. I did not use the verbage, but I had to get off the phone. He became agitated and told me he was highly offended. Yet... he is from Kenya, his mother-in-law is here and he seeks to bring his mother. (chain migration) His children born on U.S. soil attend a charter school. But for his offense, he would never consider returning to Kenya.

An issue we face is that we liberally educate foreign nationals in our universities without the demand they return to their own countries to make them better. These nations need their talent pools. Talent takes a hike back to...Haiti? Nah. Talent treks to and refuses to leave America. Whilst we speak of the sacrifice of the immigrant we fail to acknowledge the elephant in the room: the selfishness of the immigrant, unwilling to return home and invest in their own nation.
