Progressives define everything in terms of ideology and evaluate everything in terms of how it advances or diminishes the ideological thrust of the moment. They have no concept of right or wrong, good or evil. Only concepts of towards power or away from power.
If any cause, such as Islam, helps them to advance their power, the will find common cause with it as long as on-balance, their power is advanced. So, they cannot of their own free will say that ISIS is evil. They will instead suggest that somehow a way must be found to overlook their evil so as to diminish the will to oppose it.
