We Lost More Than The Senate, We Lost The Presidency

From Sarah Hoyt at Instapundit:
It was very important we not lose the house.
Yes, yes, I know, “but we got the Senate.”
The Dems get two years to hide whatever inky stuff has been going one with the FBI/CIA.
After another two years that swamp might be permanent.
Trump is by nature a deal maker. After the first two government shut downs, he’ll meet them halfway. This will wreck our economy and yep his presidency with it.
As they did with Bush in 2006, they now have a chance to wreck the economy and have it blamed on the sitting president. Border security? What border security? Moar Dem voters, citizenship being insignificant.
Seriously, yeah Judges. Not all is lost. But this is bad, very bad. We failed to beat the margin of fraud. Maybe it was inevitable. Maybe Trump won in 16 because they seriously underestimated him.
Yeah, they threw a lot of money at this. But let’s be real, if they can win the House on promises to raise our taxes and throttle our energy production and, oh, yeah, impeach the president that finally got the economy going?
We need to up our game, and somehow we need to clean up vote fraud. Which is now infinitely harder to do, since the loons got the power.
I think Sarah Hoyt is right.

But let's consider this: Maybe she's wrong.

Maybe Trump's defining quality is not his deal-making.

Maybe it's his fighting spirit.

Maybe it's his WINNING!

I know this: I am not sick of winning yet, Mr. President.

We shall see.

If the Democrat House of Reps spends the next two years behaving like the over-the-top freak show we've seen since 2016 then Trump will probably prevail in 2020. Assuming he holds the line and doesn't go Arnold on us.

If the Dems get their act together, reign in their crazies, and repeat the mantra: "Medicare for all, Student Loan Debt Forgiveness". We will be living in a permanent one party state in two years.

Didn't they just win with their crazies?

I believe the crazies cost them the Senate and significantly reduced their gains in the House. Their Trump-is-Hitler + Russia, Russia, Russia + Nasty Woman acts are past their shelf life. The only thing worse than being boring is being boring AND hysterical.

Well said.

Reign in their crazies? Like heck they will. Their crazies will be given leadership positions in the House.

I agree with Pete.

In context: Read the first paragraph.

This is normative, what happened. We nudged the Senate a bit, which is good. And what happened in the lower House happens every mid-term.

We made some impressive gains in the state governor races. Strong governors and states rights balance out federal power and aspirations.

I am not disappointed in the election at all. Trump is fine. We should be fine too, with the results. It is what a democracy looks like.
