Hyrdroxychloroquine Works and Should Be Available Over-The-Counter As It Is In The Rest of the World

Just as important as the fact that hydroxychloroquine works is how and why it works.

We don't know everything, but one thing that is significant in the latest research is that it seems to work only if taken early, which is why the other research found that it didn't wotk - they were giving it too late after the infection was established.

The mechanism may well be because it is a zinc ionophore, i.e. it moves zinc from the bloodstream into the cells where it can work to inhibit the replication of viruses.

There are other zinc ionophores, ECGC (in green tea) and quercetin, being two readily available ones. Zinc should be used in moderation as it is a heavy metal, and while essential, too much is not good.
