What Is Ramadan?

Ramadan 2020 begins at sunset on or about April 23 and will end on or about May 23. Muslims, ever contentious about nearly every matter, even disagree among themselves as to when Ramadan should begin.

What does Ramadan really celebrate, particularly Eid ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan? If one understands the history of Islam and, especially, that of Ramadan, one will come to understand that such a commemoration, including iftar dinners at the White House, should be unacceptable to all those who oppose Islamic supremacism.

Ramadan involves more than prayers, fasting, and the giving of alms — all of which are part of the month long observance but which are also the outward signs of another message. By literal definition, of course, Ramadan commemorates Allah's "revealing" the Qur'an to Muhammad. But history clearly indicates that the "revelations" from Allah to Muhammad began around 610, some fourteen years earlier than 624.

Those earlier passages, sometimes referred to as the Meccan verses, are the oft-quoted peaceful verses in the Koran. Contrary to what one might expect, however, the last day of Ramadan does not celebrate the actual date of the earliest peaceful "revelations" of Allah to Muhammad but rather the Battle of Badr, the first significant military victory by the forces of Muhammad.

The Battle of Badr of March 17, 624, is one of the few military conflicts specifically mentioned in the Qur'an and holds a great deal of significance in Islam. Eid ul-Fitr, the final portion of Ramadan, has as its origin the aforementioned battle. Furthermore and most importantly, this battle marked the turning point for Islam, both politically and ideologically.

Having earlier fled to Medina along with followers who accepted him as their prophet whereas most of the tribes of Mecca did not, early on that morning in 624 Muhammad got word that a rich Quraish caravan from Syria was returning to Mecca. He therefore assembled the largest army he had ever been able to muster, some 300 men, with the original intent of raiding the caravan. After his men successfully overtook the caravan and brought back the booty, Muhammad then conveniently received a new "revelation" from Allah — a "revelation" which not only included rejoicing in having captured an enemy's caravan but which also called "proved" that Muhammad had been preaching the true way all along. Fulfilling Destiny, Muhammad and his forces proceeded to trounce the Quraish as punishment for having earlier rejected the prophet's teachings. From this source:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful.

The battle of Badr was the most important among the Islamic battles of Destiny. For the first time the followers of the new faith were put into a serious test. Had victory been the lot of the pagan army while the Islamic Forces were still at the beginning of their developments, the faith of Islam could have come to an end.

No one was aware of the importance of the outcome of the Battle as the Prophet (S.A.W.) himself. We might read the depth of his anxiety in his prayer before the beginning of the Battle when he stood up supplicating his Lord:

God this is Quraish. It has come with all its arrogance and boastfulness, trying to discredit Thy Apostle. God, I ask Thee to humiliate them tomorrow. God, if this Muslim band will perish today, Thou shall not be worshipped.
[...]

This battle laid the foundation of the Islamic State...
In other words, victory at the Battle of Badr proved to Muhammad and his adherents that Islam should from that time forth take on a militant aspect because such is the will of Allah. From the day of the Battle of Badr on, the tone of the verses in the Qur'an changed. These more recent "revelations," sometimes referred to as the Medinan verses, abrogated the earlier and peaceful Meccan ones. Because preaching and tolerance had not brought Muhammad the following which he needed in order to establish himself and Islam as political forces to be reckoned with, Allah, via a military victory, showed the prophet a more effective way to spread Islam. Therefore, Muhammad's victory at the Battle of Badr symbolizes both the way to bring about the will of Allah and the will of Allah itself.

In sum, Ramadan is, in and of itself, a statement advocating submission to Islam and to the will of Allah. Ah, the dhimmitude and submission of all Western leaders when they send Ramadan greetings to the Islamic world!

What Is Ramadan?

(Much of this blog post was previously published on July 30, 2011, and on June 18, 2015)

Ramadan 2019 began at sunset on May 6 and continues for 30 days until June 5.

It is no coincidence that in 2011 the Taliban bestowed the name "Badr" upon their spring offensive.

Military Bans Bibles But Forces Soldiers to Adhere to Ramadan Rules

Obamascum

The US Air Force kicked Christian Gideon’s volunteers off base in March.
The Bibles were too offensive and violated the separation of church and state rule.
But US military personnel are expected to adhere Islamic practices during Ramadan.
Stars and Stripes reported:
U.S. personnel accustomed to drinking their coffee on the drive to work will have to put that habit on hold for about a month. It’s one of a few lifestyle changes Americans will have to make during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Officials expect Ramadan to begin at sunrise on Saturday, depending on when the new moon is sighted. The holy month lasts for approximately 30 days — until about July 28. For Muslims around the world, Ramadan is a month of fasting and devotion to God. Most Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, when families gather for Iftar — the meal that breaks the fast.
For the 8,200 U.S. personnel living here, and those serving throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility — including servicemembers, civilian personnel, contractors and family members — the month may require changing some daily routines.
Businesses and government offices will reduce hours and most restaurants will be closed during daylight hours.
While not required to fast during Ramadan, in Bahrain, Americans can be fined or detained by local authorities for eating, drinking or smoking in public when off-base during daylight hours.
Navy officials are requiring U.S. personnel to dress more conservatively off-base during Ramadan. Although not a requirement by Bahraini authorities, the Navy is demanding that men wear long-sleeved shirts and women wear sleeved blouses that cover their elbows. Also, men must wear long trousers, and women should wear pants or skirts that cover the knees.

Ramadan death toll round-up, August 18, 2012

Well with the end of Ramadan just around the corner, the faithful really are pulling out all the stops in which makes this one to remember which is why bombings, shootings and beatings are going off the chart:

(Afganstan) People shopping at a market Shindand district. got more than they bargained for when Islamic idiots set off a bomb targeting only they know who. The resulting blast killed 4 people, injuring 12.Yesterday at a parade commemorating the passing out of Afghan police cadets, a young police officer on receiving his official pistol, took it out and murdered two US serviceman.

(Philippines) Not content with killing Non-Muslims in their quest to carve out a new Islamic nation from Christian majority Philippines, the  faithful instead of thinking good thoughts decided to attack their fellow Islamic terrorists  which is why 6 of these stupid, stupid thugs got their wish and are now 6 feet under.

(Pakistan) In the frontier town of Quetta, a very nice Muslim drove his explosive laden car up to a checkpoint and utter the immortal words 'Allah ackba' the resulting blast murdered 5 people.

(Bahrain) Rioting Shia muslims (Paid for by Iran perhaps?) were met by force by the local police when they presumed that allah would protect them . Unfortunately for them Allah doesn't work that way and 1 rioting thug was killed.

(Kashmir) An Indian border guard was shot dead after Pakistani troops opened fire on the border post he was based in, because apparently that is the nature of the beast which is Islam.

Ramadan death count moves up to 3,227.

The Muslims are doing a bang-up job this year, really showing initiative for Satan, I mean, Allah.

Check out the growth in their numbers.

Ramadan 2011 Death Count: 2,042 ( 52.5%)
Ramadan 2010 Death Count: 1,339 ( 6.3%)
Ramadan 2009 Death Count:1,260

And, at 3227, this year's numbers are up 58% over last year... so far.

Yeah, baby!

Oh Allah, you were wonderful last night.

Belgium Shaken By Ramadan Crime Wave: Threats of Grenade Attacks on Public Buildings

India: 12 killed overnight in clashes between locals and Muslim settlers

GUWAHATI, India (AFP) — Indian police recovered 12 bodies from rice fields and roadsides in the remote state of Assam on Wednesday as the death toll from ethnic violence rose to 38 after four days of bloody clashes.

At least 170,000 villagers have fled their homes to seek shelter in relief camps, government buildings and schools to escape the unrest, which has raged since Friday with scores of homes burnt down by rioters.

Military reinforcements were called in to try to quell the fighting between indigenous Bodo tribes and Muslim settlers who have competed for years in long-standing territorial disputes.

"It appears all these 12 people were killed in overnight attacks," said Tarun Gogoi, the chief minister of Assam, a oil and tea-rich state in the northeast of India bordering on Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Infidel Women Must Cover Up During Ramadan?

From special swimming sessions for Muslimas to all women must cover up! That's the push now in Australia, so as not to offend Muslims during their so-called holy season (hat tip to Bunkerville):

Get ready, fellow infidels! This could be coming to the United States sooner than we can possibly imagine.

Hell, before you know it, we infidel women here in the United States will have to cover up during Ramadan just to run errands in certain communities.

It's all about establishing Islamic supremacism in the West. Muslims are not satisfied to confine their supremacism to their own countries.

Everyone Should Fast During Ramadan?

So says Gail Rosseau, MD, a neurosurgeon from Chicago, Illinois, in this essay from the Washington Post:
This may not be the call to action you would expect from a lifelong Catholic.

[...]

As one of the 5 pillars of the Muslim faith, fasting during Ramadan is expected in Islam. Yet the personal motivation to fast given by one of my colleagues, Nigerian neurosurgeon Muhammed Mahmud, still resonates.

"You can talk about poverty all you want, but being poor means being hungry, and an empty stomach gets your attention like nothing else does," he explained. "We Muslims think the world will be a better, kinder place if all of us spend a month each year feeling, really FEELING, in our bellies, what it is like to be poor."

His words spoke to me. I believe they would speak to most people, of most religions. His words ring equally true to all the secular humanists I know.

Imagine, for a moment, what it would mean if every adult American, more than 225 million of us, gave up one lunch during Ramadan: at $5/lunch this would raise $1.25 billion. The savings could be donated to the church, synagogue, mosque or charity of your choice.

[...]

True understanding comes from shared experience. This year during Ramadan, let's consider reaffirming our common spiritual heritage by embracing the discipline and the spiritual concentration that skipping a lunch, or 30 lunches, would require. This shared experience with the Muslim community, here and abroad, could go a longer way toward ending our serious, and often violent, interfaith struggles than any effort to date. And maybe we could begin to eliminate world hunger along the way.
How long before all infidel women are advised to don the hijab during Ramadan so as to promote understanding?

Or maybe we should all be reciting the first pillar of Islam. Remember, just the recitation thereof automatically makes the utterer a Moslem, whether the reciter believes the words or not.

President Obama’s Radical Islamic Ramadan Dinner Guests

From News Real:

With all of the hubbub surrounding President Obama’s apparent endorsement of the Ground Zero mega mosque and community center complex at last week’s White House Ramadan dinner, none of the cable talk shows that I have watched have bothered to examine the guest list. I think that is a mistake because the guest list gives some insight into what Obama really believes.

Amongst all of the ambassadors and other dignitaries, two “community” leaders with a radical Islamic agenda stand out.

The first was Dr. Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

ISNA was named as an unindicted co-conspirator of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, an Islamic “charity” which was convicted in 2008 by a federal jury for giving more than $12 million to the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.

One month after 9/11, Dr. Mattson described the extremist Wahhabism ideology that inspired the 9/11 terrorists this way:
It is the name of a reform movement that began 200 years ago to rid Islamic societies of cultural practices and rigid interpretation that had acquired over the centuries. It really was analogous to the European Protestant Reformation.
In a September 2002 interview with PBS, Mattson stated that she did not see “any difference” between Christian leaders criticizing Islam or al Qaeda on the one hand, and Osama bin Laden citing “Islamic theology to justify violence against Americans” on the other.

And apparently, President Obama is following Mattson’s advice in purging the phrase “Islamic terrorism” from his administration’s lexicon. Is it any wonder that she was on Obama’s guest list for the Ramadan dinner?

Obama On Islam In America

KILL THE PIRATES

Post of the day, from LauraW. at Ace of Spades:

A snippet of his speech that deserves to be singled out for special scorn.
Obama said that Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America. "The first Muslim ambassador to the United States, from Tunisia, was hosted by President Jefferson, who arranged a sunset dinner for his guest because it was Ramadan — making it the first known iftar at the White House, more than 200 years ago."
How very disingenuous. We have here a fact presented not merely out of context, but so deceitfully as to be a laughable fraud.

First of all, the term 'a part of America' needs some thoughtful defining. I think we can mostly agree that the implication is that the mere act of feting the Tunisian envoy during his diplomatic mission to the US is some sort of general inclusion of Islam into the American experience at that early date.

How? Merely through his temporary presence in our country? Even though we were in conflict with his state at the time?

This isn't the first time Obama has spouted this same warped poppycock.
From his Cairo speech in 2009:
“Islam has always been a part of America’s story. The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco. In signing the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, our second President John Adams wrote, “The United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims.” .............................
And when the first Muslim-American was recently elected to Congress, he took the oath to defend our Constitution using the same Holy Koran that one of our Founding Fathers – Thomas Jefferson – kept in his personal library.”
"Islam has always been a part of America’s story."

Indeed!

That would be the same Treaty of Tripoli that was essentially a protection racket against the United States, requiring that tribute be paid to avoid being the victim of piracy.

That would be the same John Adams who reluctantly figured that bribing the pirates of Barbary was cheaper than military engagement (out of an understanding that the political will and money for creating the necessary naval force was out of reach for the time being).

And that would be the same Thomas Jefferson who, with his great knowledge and understanding of the Koran, reversed our course and decided that military engagement against the various Muslim states engaged in piracy was the only sensible way to proceed.

And then bombarded their coastline, invaded them, and persuaded them to find a new hobby.

This particular piece of history cannot be rewritten to suit current PC needs. The reasons for the envoy's visit cannot be recast into some pap about multicultural understanding.

And this earliest merging of Islam into 'the American story'- where we invade and punish them for their banditry- is not the sort of event someone with half a brain uses as a bragging point about American inclusiveness.

Barack Obama's Ramadan Greeting, "Islam has always been part of America"

Really? Since when?

This man is completely outside the American Tradition.

Thanks to Will:

Ramadan is a time when Muslims around the world reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith, and the responsibility that human beings have to one another, and to God.

This is a time when families gather, friends host iftars, and meals are shared.  But Ramadan is also a time of intense devotion and reflection – a time when Muslims fast during the day and pray during the night; when Muslims provide support to others to advance opportunity and prosperity for people everywhere.

For all of us must remember that the world we want to build – and the changes that we want to make – must begin in our own hearts, and our own communities.

These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.

Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality.

And here in the United States, Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country.

And today, I want to extend my best wishes to the 1.5 billion Muslims around the world – and your families and friends – as you welcome the beginning of Ramadan.

Muslims Just Keep Pushing Their Agenda

Now, they want to be the ones to control the setting of our watches and clocks as the giant Mecca clock challenges Greenwich Mean Time.

This, in spite of the fact that Muslims cannot even agree as to the start date for the annual Ramma-damma-ding-dong.

Ludicrous, but they don't see themselves that way. Rather, they are chasing the will of Allah. Pfffft.

Pushing Toward The Caliphate

When Moslems know their numbers and power are too small to push harder against a nation's prevailing culture, Moslems blend into the background and cause few problems. When, however, they sense they are getting closer to gaining the upper hand, they act upon their convictions about Islamic supremacism.

From this posting over at Down Under on the Right Side, an Australian-based blog:
A SYDNEY couple has withdrawn their two children from a public primary school, claiming their 11-year-old son was bullied by Muslim students because he ate a salami sandwich during Ramadan. …Mr Grigoriou said he removed his son and a younger child from the school on Tuesday after the boy was punched in the eye and kicked in the legs by a Muslim student. …The Department of Education and Training said it had a zero tolerance policy towards racism.

…Other parents also complained to The Daily Telegraph about bullying at the school and claimed victims received too little protection. One said her 12-year-old son was scared to open his lunch box at school because he was harassed about what is in it. “He has been bullied from day one … about being a Christian and about the hot salami in his lunch,” she said. “My boy has a Greek background … the bullying is extreme. “He has been called a fat pig and hit on the back with a stick.” Another mother said her young son refused to go on school excursions for fear he would be bashed.
MK, the blogmaster at Down Under on the Right Side comments:
...I’d hate to be a the father of those kids and I feel for them, but in a way I’m glad this sort of thing is being reported in the news and people are becoming more aware of it. This is what muslims have been doing all over the world for centuries now, there is no tolerance or acceptance of infidels in muslim lands, but there is no criticism of it and we’re all supposed to sing kumbaya and all cultures are equal and glorious.
