The Adopt-a-Mosque Program

Awhile back, I read the book, Terrorist Hunter: The Extraordinary Story of a Woman Who Went Undercover to Infiltrate the Radical Islamic Groups Operating in America, and a particular passage has been gnawing at me. Rita Katz (a Jew working for an NGO intelligence agency) had dressed as a Muslim woman and was registering to attend one of the many talks scheduled at a Muslim convention in Chicago. Under her burka, she had a hidden recording device.

"The clerk at the front desk directed me to the registration table in a far corner of the lobby," Katz wrote. "A queue had already formed there. As I joined it, I began to get jittery. This was an IAP conference. Islamic Association for Palestine. Many of the attendees, therefore, would be Palestinian. Any of them would recognize from my accent that I was an Iraqi. What if they asked me about it? What if they asked me other questions? What if I got tripped up on some detail of my story? The people at the registration table were very suspicious of anyone they didn't recognize or who didn't look Middle Eastern. They grilled several people standing in line. Some of the answers they approved, and those people they signed up. But just ahead of me in line was a guy who didn't look Mediterranean. Nor did he speak Arabic. They asked him a few questions. He tried to explain himself, but the organizers weren't buying his story. They were polite — and very firm that he was not getting in."

There are several points I'd like to make here about this incident, and then I have an idea for a possible action we can take. First off, Rita Katz looked Middle Eastern and she spoke Arabic, so she got in. And they preached firey jihad against the West and promoted sedition and the violent overthrow of the U.S. government. This was taking place in Chicago.

Second, these Muslims were practicing racial profiling. They were guilty of discrimination based on race.

Now, here's my idea. What if we went in groups of five or six (for safety) and brought either a hidden camera, an audio recorder, or a newspaper reporter with us, and tried to get into these conferences? Would they throw us out? If they did, isn't that newsworthy? Are they being racist? What do they have to hide?

What if this happened to mosques and Islamic conferences all over the United States and Europe? One of two things would happen, both of them good for the cause. Either Muslims would be publicly exposed as racist and secretive, or they would let non-Muslims into their conferences and Friday sermons. So either they would get bad press as racist, or non-Muslims would be monitoring what they say inside these normally-Muslim-only communication stations.

This seems like a legitimate and viable form of protest that could be taken without any violence. It would have to be done carefully so anyone trying it would be safe — like going with a group, making sure people knew where you were, keeping your cellphone on you, etc.

I think this idea has some merit. What do you think?

A Message To Peaceful Muslims

On the Infidel Blogger's Alliance and other sites, I've seen many comments by Muslims trying to tell non-Muslims that Islam is really a peaceful religion and that the terrorists have it all wrong. A friend of mine I've known for years is an ex-Muslim, who grew up in a Muslim country, and even he has told me Islamic terrorists don't understand the "true" teachings of Islam.

This article is my response to all those comments on web sites, including this one. This is a message to Muslims who want to convince non-Muslims that Islam is a religion of peace.

My main message is: Please stop. We are trying to defeat terrorism here, and when you tell non-Muslims that message, you aren't helping the cause. You're actually hindering it. I'll explain how in a minute.

If you peaceful Muslims are trying to defend your religious beliefs, I think most people would understand and sympathize with your motives. But by doing it here, what have you accomplished? On this site, and on many others, we are trying to defeat terrorism. Have you helped our cause? No. All you've done is try to convince us Islam is great.

You need to understand the effect of your defense on the non-Muslim mind. If you want to end Islamic terrorism, and if you understood what effect you had, you would stop defending your faith to infidels.

Because even if we all believed you, so what? Even if you successfully convinced us Islam is really a religion of peace, what difference would it make? Does it help us defeat terrorism? No, not at all. We have terrorists quoting the Koran (urging Muslims to kill infidels) and we have other Muslims saying the Koran is only about peace. Where does that leave us? You've replaced clarity with confusion. You've replaced resolve with hesitation. And to that degree, you've given the terrorists the upper hand.

This is a deadly serious business, and this seemingly insignificant issue is the crucial pivoting point. Knowing how and why your enemy wants to destroy you is an enormous advantage in a global war in which many hundreds of thousands have already lost their lives.

Peaceful Muslims, I ask you to hear this: You make non-Muslims less able to defend themselves by going on these websites and justifying your religion to them.

Part of what makes the issue confusing for westerners is that we don't know if you're sincere or if you're trying to deceive us. Many terrorists exclaim vehemently that Islam is a religion of peace. But when they say it, they are trying to trick non-Muslims and confuse us while they continue their jihad against us (or what they mean is: as soon as Islam conquers all countries, the world will be at peace, so therefore, Islam is a religion of peace).

But my feeling is that most of the Muslims who have written to me are actually sincere, peace-loving, non-terrorist Muslims who have no interest in blowing up infidels. My friend is one of those. He is perfectly sincere.

If you are one of those sincerely peaceful Muslims, I know you have explained away the violent parts of the Koran terrorists often quote. And good for you. I'm glad you have. You had a teacher who convinced you jihad is really an inner struggle. And that's great. The teacher provided you with the complex mental maneuvers you need to see the Koran as a peaceful document.

But you are doing harm and causing confusion by telling infidels you know the "true teachings" of Islam. The Islamic terrorists aren't listening to unorthodox teachers. Terrorists are fundamentalists. They are strongly against any moderation of Islamic texts.

It doesn't really matter that you have somehow explained away Allah's commands to kill all the infidels — the terrorists have not explained it away! They make the more direct assumption that if Allah said it, He must have meant it.

You think the terrorists who quote the Koran are wrong. And you believe the fundamentalists running Iran, Syria, Pakistan, the Sudan, and Saudi Arabia don't really know what Islam is all about. Okay, fine. Does that help us defeat terrorism now that we know that? Not one little bit.

But when infidels get a good idea of what is actually in the Koran, and when they learn about the Islamic principles of deceit and pretext, and when we find out the goal and purpose of the Islamic faith, and when we learn about the methods Islamists use to infiltrate and destroy, then we infidels are better able to protect ourselves. It's like finding out the plans of an enemy during war. It helps tremendously to anticipate what they're going to do and to understand their motives. This knowledge improves our ability to defend ourselves against it.

How To Help YOUR State Divest From Terrorism (and choke off money from terror-sponsoring states)

SCHWARZENEGGER SAYS California is going to do it. And you can urge your state to do it too. Four identifiable states sponsor terrorism outright: Iran, Sudan, Syria, and North Korea. The U.S. forbids American companies from investing money in these countries, but many foreign companies have no such rule.

The problem is, people in the U.S. use investment companies for investing stocks, for mutual funds and pension funds, etc. And those sometimes invest in companies outside the U.S. — companies that invest in the terror-sponsors.

But a non-profit organization is out to choke off this vital source of funds to terror-sponsoring countries.

Most Americans would be horrified to know they are indirectly sponsoring terrorism, and DivestTerror.org is helping them find out where their money goes.

To "divest" means "to get rid of, to dispose of." DivestTerror.org is on a campaign to make sure any investments made by Americans have divested terror.

If you invest money, if you have a 401k or a pension plan, or invest in stocks, or have a mutual fund, you can use their information to make sure your money isn't supporting terror.

Your broker or fund manager may not know which of your holdings has ties to terrorism. Sometimes this information isn't easily had. But you can motivate them to find out by threatening to move your funds elsewhere. Money talks. Use the forces of free enterprise in favor of this worthy cause.

If you do not invest money, you can still help the campaign: You can promote this idea. Let people know about it in whatever way you can. And you can help get petitions signed and write letters to state legislators, governor, treasurer, and local officials to make sure your state investments aren't providing money for companies doing business in terror-sponsoring countries.

The goal of the DivestTerror.org campaign is to force governments to choose between their sponsorship of terrorism and important partnerships with publicly traded firms.

This idea has a history of success. A similar campaign helped end apartheid in South Africa. People demanded to know where their money was being invested, and withdrew it from organizations investing in South African companies. The campaign had a strong influence in the ultimate change in South Africa's national policies.

Investors have used this kind of financial leverage against environmentally damaging companies, tobacco companies, and gambling concerns.

The DivestTerror.org web site says:

"The economies of terrorist-sponsoring states are almost entirely dependent on the revenues, expertise and advanced equipment and technology provided by global publicly traded companies in which millions of Americans own stock. Accordingly, a basic premise of DivestTerror.org is that some, if not all, of these governments would likely choose to end their support of terrorism before suffering an economic collapse catalyzed by the withdrawal of these public companies."

Several companies have deliberately divested themselves of all terror-sponsor-related investments and they've actually made more money than they did before. So this won't harm your investments, and may even personally benefit you. It will only take some effort on your part to change your funds over. But you get the satisfaction of denying resources to the enemies of the free world.

This is a worthy campaign, and I urge you to participate.
