Mecca, then ...and Qom, and Medina and Teheran ..merely a good start

Website Warns Of Attacks At NFL Games This Weekend

CBS 13 / AP) WASHINGTON A Web site is claiming that seven NFL football stadiums will be hit with radiological dirty bombs this weekend, but the government on Wednesday expressed doubts about the threat.

The threat, posted Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing Internet conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It mentioned NFL stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, where games are scheduled to be held this weekend.

The Homeland Security Department alerted authorities and stadium owners in those cities, as well as the NFL, of the Web message but said the threat was being viewed "with strong skepticism." Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said there was no intelligence that indicated such an attack was imminent, and that the alert was "out of an abundance of caution."

"The department strongly encourages the public to continue to go about their plans, including attending events that involve large public gatherings such as football games," Knocke said.

The FBI also expressed doubt about the threat.

The Oakland Raiders are scheduled to play the St. Louis Rams at McAfee Stadium in Oakland at 1:15 p.m.

The nation's alert level remains at yellow, signaling an elevated risk of an attack. The threat level for airline flights is at orange, a higher level, where it has been since a foiled plot to bomb U.S.-bound commercial jets was revealed on Aug. 10.

What might they do...HATE US? Attack us?

Let's hope Homeland Security has this right

Well, if they were going to try to get away with such a thing, they ain't going to now.

Radiological bombs sounds scarier than they are, from what I know. As I understand it, a radiological bomb is just a bomb wrapped with radiological material (sometimes medical waste) which spews outward when the bomb explodes Depending upon how much of this waste one gets hit with, and how well one is cleaned off in the immediate aftermath, one would stand a high degree of living, if one didn't actually get killed by the explosion.

In order for this to work, the bomber would have to be inside the stadium, which would mean he'd have to be a suicide bomber, which would mean the blast couldn't be that big, which would mean it would only effect a few hundred people.

Tell me if you think I'm wrong.

Hey Epa,
A guy named Ralph Wiggum left a very intelligent comment over a LGF. Would you mind if I posted this on the front page along with your post? Here it is:

"At the risk of sounding like an overreacting buffoon, this story, and its reaction is just my point to my liberal friends about the "prewarning" of 911. The government's reaction, the NFL's reaction, and 90% of the people even on this site have the attitude "Oh that could never happen.", or let's make jokes about our lousy football team needing to be bombed. Well my tream is 6-0 and I don't find any of this funny.

Our intelligence has now provided specific information to a specific threat, just what we've been asking for, and America laughs it off. Can you imagine our reaction PRE-911? Can you imagine Bush coming on TV on 9/10/01 stating he was shutting down our airports due to an intelligence memo? There would have been riots in the streets and people screaming about our coming military state.

We can't win either way. No warnings, blame Bush for not doing anything. With warnings, we laugh it off. I'm sure over at koskids, they're talking about "right before an election" bullshit. I truly hope that nothing happens and that we take things a little more seriously."

I deleted a comment by an anonymous commenter because he/she used language which is traditionally racist. Please don't do that here. Make your point without resorting to such language please.

I've been skeptical about the lethality of most radiation releases since I found that 1948 tourist brochure from the Hiroshima Chamber of Commerce. Uninhabitable for decades? Not exactly...

Alas, 5 years into the game I fear we are back to square one so far as most attack warnings are concerned. They will believe it when they see it. The next thing they'll do is blame it on Bush.

There are some intriguing updates over on LGF.

And don't miss the gonzo DNC homo-conservative scare letter.
