ROP,
There are a lot of angry Muslims here in America, but they haven't done much yet. They just hold anti-Israel rallies and wave Hizbollah flags at "peace" demonstrations.
We have NO CLUE.
None...my omani acquaintances say ..figure 5% ready to committ an act, 10% will support directly, and 35% agree morally with it.
I have never seen ANY figures about americans who happen to be muslim, let alone reliable numbers
Just fininshing Spencer's book and it's surprising the situation isn't worse.
Epa,
Doesn't it seem like, in a way, the problem with the media blackout is even worse here in America. They simply don't even ask questions. Well, at least they did report on the trial of Sami al-Arian. But, they never really reported on the Jihadi leanings of the Beltway Bombers, or of the guy in Seattle, or the guy in San Francisco.
Likewise they don't report about the repeated displays of anti-Semitism on the campus of UC Irvine. Or, on the almost totalitarian Islamification of the city of Dearborn, where they do the call to prayer over a city PA system.
I think the problem is WORSE than if it was purposeful.
The press is scrotum tightening scared that it's all true and everywhere, and they can't admit to themselves it has to be covered that way. It's denial is overpowering, and so is that of the populace.
To them we HAVE to be right wing lunatics, ready to be branded as overexcited islamophobes and neocon furuit loops. If we are not, the entire belief system needed to hide from all this falls apart.
Even when respectable people say what has to be said out loud, it sounds like shouting into a vacuum..hence Pam's frustration with no less than Hannity.
Americans are not yet ready, and my only solace in all this is what Wellington said of Waterloo ..and what always seems to be true of democracies in war...."It was a near run thing"
Of course, Indonesia is held up as the bastion of moderate Islam where Salafists have no hold. Don't be surprise that when the press does report this matter (say after another South East Asia attack) you'll hear how they became inflamed by our actions because of X, Y, & Z. Since we have no presense in that part of the world, the current facts just don't fit into the picture. But sooner or later they'll find an angle and yell "now we did it; they used to be moderate but we inflamed them."
Hey, there is a campaign to boycott Indonesian products because of these days' persecution to Christian people:

By the way, a VERY remarkable blog.
Greetings.
