The end of the world has already happened, we just don't know it yet

Quarter of Brits think Churchill was myth: poll

LONDON (AFP) - Britons are losing their grip on reality, according to a poll out Monday which showed that nearly a quarter think Winston Churchill was a myth while the majority reckon Sherlock Holmes was real.

The survey found that 47 percent thought the 12th century English king Richard the Lionheart was a myth.

And 23 percent thought World War II prime minister Churchill was made up. The same percentage thought Crimean War nurse Florence Nightingale did not actually exist.

Three percent thought Charles Dickens, one of Britain's most famous writers, is a work of fiction himself.

Indian political leader Mahatma Gandhi and Battle of Waterloo victor the Duke of Wellington also appeared in the top 10 of people thought to be myths.

Meanwhile, 58 percent thought Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective Holmes actually existed; 33 percent thought the same of W. E. Johns' fictional pilot and adventurer Biggles.

UKTV Gold television surveyed 3,000 people.

All we have to do now is make movie about Bin Laden, and then he too will be a myth.

Us oldies know our stuff though. God knows what they teach them in schhools. The young now seem to know very little even those who go to university. You just have to watch "Who wants to be a millionaire" to see how little the young know.

Same deal here, ray. I work in a bookstore and was verbally harassed the other night by a customer who was offended because I snickered at a comment about "waterboarding". When the ensuing hoo-hah (involving shouting, counter-pounding, me insisting I was not allowed to discuss politics, and a paperback copy of the Constitution thrown at me) was over, the 19-year-old Paris Hilton lookalike working the counter with me asked what "waterboarding" is. I explained it is something interrogators do to jihadists. Then I had to explain what a "jihadist" is. She had never heard of it. I even wrote it down and it drew a blank. On reflection, I'd have to say she was scarier than the counter-pounding anti-waterboarder was.

Speaking of whom.

Would someone please explain to me what the deal is with all the Jewish self-hatred lately? I had to chase after this guy to try to return his book (mainly because I was afraid he'd come back in after it) and in the course of arguing at the door and him ranting about Bush he said, "I'm a Jew." At which point I told him he ought to be more worried about the jihadists trying to kill him and the rest of us.

What is the story here? What is the story?!?
