NEW YORK (AP) -- A former Pace University student who twice threw copies of the Koran into a toilet at the school after disputes with Muslims pleaded guilty Monday to disorderly conduct in connection with the incidents.
Stanislav Shmulevich, 24, pleaded guilty as part of a deal in which he must do 300 hours of community service. He has completed about 80 hours of the service at a hospital, his lawyer said.
Shmulevich, a business major and immigrant from the former Soviet Union [he must have thought he had moved to a free country], initially was charged with two counts of criminal mischief as a hate crime. The charge is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
If the library books tossed into the commode were copies of Hunkleberry Fin, it is obvious that the only charges that would have been brought would have been petty property damage, if that (and assuming Pace University Library has a copy of Hunkleberry Fin). It is amazing just how gutless today's liberals are in the face of demands religious zealots. Sharia may still be creeping in the United States, but not if academia has anything to do about it.

Yep, one little baby step at a time. Sneak it in, very quietly under the cloak of darkness..
Maybe nobody will notice.
Why did he agree to plead guilty? Wasn't there anyone with any fucking sense who would represent him?
Uh, I know it's a stupid question, but where was the ACLU?
Pastorius,
Why did he agree to plead guilty? Wasn't there anyone with any fucking sense who would represent him?
Are even the attorneys intimidated?
I don't know if this case will be setting a precedent. But if so, it could be a very dangerous one.
I can't imagine that similar treatment of the Bible would result in such a decision by a court of law here in the States.
AOW, if I remember correctly, the way the law was written, he was screwed from the get go.
The problem wasn't, I believe, dumb lawyers, but dumb law.
Attack the law... seems like an ideal case for civil disobedience..public massive flushing in the name of freedom of speech. No one could construe that to be yelling fire in a crowded theatre
Epa,
The problem wasn't, I believe, dumb lawyers, but dumb law.
Hmmmm....But has the law been "tested" before?
Don't forget his lawyer said, "the disorderly conduct plea was an appropriate disposition."
Dhimmi lawyers + PC Law = We're screwed.
