You know, watching his pained expression as he tried to toe a fine line almost makes me feel sorry for the man. Sorry because I think he is trying to take the high ground in this election – where in politics, there no such thing – and he truly believes in the basic goodness of his fellow man.
He can be seen as young and inexperienced and an idealist no matter which side of the aisle you come from. So why would he associate himself with the likes of a racist like Rev. Wright? How could an intelligent sensitive man have anything but contempt for such a man as Rev. Wright?
The answer lies not in Obama’s beliefs so much as society he was raised in.
You see, over the last 50 years this country and western society in general has seen it values slowly devolve into relativistic classless muddle. We’ve lost all sense of shame and guilt, believe that any value system, any ethical system, any philosophical or religious belief is equal to each other. Even our sense of conscience has been polluted by “Do your own thing’ and ‘If it feels good, do it’.
Raise a generation under such a value system and one can easily accept the most hideous of views.
Without a sense of shame or guilt, which we have lost almost entirely in western society, we have nothing to anchor us to or are able to form a crap detector and recognize crap when crap is served. Shame and guilt or feeling that one should not associate with such values and those that hold them has fallen upon the wayside in today’s society.
Obama’s sense of discrimination between what’s right and what is not is a direct result of our society.
And when you go too far, there are few consequences if you go on Operah and be forgiven.

Well put, WC.
I'm with you. I don't think Obama is a mean man. I don't think he is a Muslim.
But, I do think he is willing to tolerate all sorts of anger and evil from people he considers to be victims.
It's par for the course postmodernism.
Sorry, but he is at the very least profoundly dishonest. He cannot claim to be for respect and reconciliation between the races any more than he could if he regularly attended KKK meetings. That level of evasion simply can't be excused with "well, I don't agree with some things he says, but hey, he's a biblical scholar and he's close to retirement." I think it is dangerous to feel "sorry" for Obama. This wasn't forced on him. He chose to be groomed and funded and put forth for the presidency of the United States knowing this poison was in his background and, apparently, believing he could charm and sweet talk his way out of it. I think he is shocked to find that it may not be so easy.
It's not just the situation with Wright. Go have a look at Edward Cline's essay (at http://ruleofreason.blogspot.com/ )on Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S 2433, based on H.R. 1302, passed 9/25/07) which would, as Cline puts it, "deliver Americans into a state of indentured servitude as laborers for the United Nations." Messiah Barack surely has no trouble spinning this into his web of "hope" and "change" rhetoric. Like his mentor Rev. Wright, he is dedicated to bringing down vengeance on "The United States of White America" regardless of the cost even to other black Americans. Why are so many people willing to cut this man slack when he comes up with verge-of-treasonous legislation like this as we are facing a possible recession or worse?
I don't feel the least bit sorry for Barack Hussein Obama. I consider him despicable.
It's not about the pastor. If Obama's THEOLOGY is seen for what it is the election is lost. See:

Ditto.
We have to remember that he is a product of the 'progressive' mindset that has permeated our society and dulled our social conscience. What Obama believes is what he was taught through our schools and media. The end result is that his idealistic optimism comes off as a foolish interpretation of what he thinks the world really is.
I don't feel sorry for Obama. He should have known that entering the Presidential race was playing with the big boys.
Furthermore, I believe that Obama willfully lied about what he knew and when he knew the kind of man Jeremiah Wright is. I posted my take here at IBA yesterday. I don't believe that Obama did not know the kinds of sermons Wright preached. In fact, in his statement on H&C, Obama said "MOST of the time" he didn't hear sermons like that. "Most" does not exclude "all."
But I will agree that Obama is the product of his community and the educational system. I base my opinion on that matter on John McWhorter's book Losing the Race: Self-Sabotage in Black America.
Muslims aren't the only group concentrating on victimhood and a sense of "righteous anger."
Could it be that Obama is an Islamophile because he identifies with the concept of victimhoon? I noted in a post some time ago here at IBA that the Australian aborigines feel that same kind of identification. I'll give the link to that posting in another comment here.
