Yemen: 8-year-old's marriage, "terminated" by judge

I wrote yesterday about Nojoud, an 8-year-old girl, who demanded a divorce because she wanted to have "a respectful life". Well, today it has been reported that the judge has terminated the marriage, because she was underage and had not reached the puberty. Very good news, although nothing of the abuse and mistreatment, both physically and sexually was mentioned in the ruling. Her lawyer has stated that the ruling contains a "termination of the marriage", not a divorce, to "prevent the husband from reinstating the marriage".

On the other hand:
The court also ordered the child’s family to pay 50,000 Yemeni rials (about $250) in compensation to the 30-year-old ex-husband.
Seems to me she should have been awarded the compensation for the abuses...

Step one: get rid of looser husband. Step two: stop wearing tablecloth. There, that feels better.

In a sane country, under sane laws, he'd be in jail for life for what he did to that little girl.

I bet her maw and paw are real happy to have to fork over a year's salary to get their bint back...when and if she becomes an honour killing, no one will know, no one will care. One hell to another.

How did this 8 year old manage to make so much noise? She must have had some advocate working for her.
