All of us, every single man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth were born with the same unalienable rights; to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And, if the governments of the world can't get that through their thick skulls, then, regime change will be necessary.

Understand me when I say that I knew that man's real life counterpart and that I got the speech about the Horror too. Which is why I worry that he's where he is and hope to hell that at least he is not on their side.
Been a long time since I read it but I still remember how startling it is they took the story off the Congo river and moved it to southeast Asia for the movie.
I will never say I am grateful for the experience, but I will acknowledge that by motivating me to learn about the mindset of cult leaders it set me on the road to being able to recognize the psychology of jihadists when so many others simply dismiss it as irrelevant "craziness".
Or, to put it another way, there is always someone, somewhere, warped enough to do absolutely anything.
Similarly, RRA, I was nutty enough in my teens and early 20's to have spent an inordinate amount of time reading Nietzsche and other esoteric stuff, including Anton LeVey's writings.
I spent years regretting it. But, as you have found, I find that all those years of reading were not wasted, because I recognize Jihadist Islam as the power-obssessed mania that it is. it is a "Satanic" religion.

I understand.
And I. Though I'm not sure we'd want him on our side, either.
It may be time to reread Heart of Darkness.
I just read Heart of Darkness for the first time a couple months ago. What a great book.
