Islamic Nations Ban YouTube

Via Creeping Sharia, which cited this source (emphases mine):
DUBAI - It is ranked among the top 10 most popular sites in the UAE, but Dubai’s police chief believes that YouTube ‘incites hatred’ and, therefore, should be banned from computers.

On Sunday, Bangladesh became the latest country to impose a block on YouTube after a 40-minute discussion between the Prime Minister and senior generals was posted online. Earlier, in February 2008, the Pakistani government blocked the video-sharing site, because it republished cartoons blasphemous to Islam. Last April, Indonesian officials temporarily blocked YouTube for carrying the film, but restored service a week later.

The Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, Lt Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, appeared to have launched a campaign on Sunday when he called upon Etisalat to ban YouTube, which uploads more than 200,000 videos each day. He was addressing the general assembly of the Juveniles Education and Care Association here.

Tamim said that the website contained videos that ‘sparked dissension’, especially on religious belief....
As Creeping Sharia stated,
Could they be upset with the Hamas, Hizbollah, and other jihadist videos on Google-owned Youtube? Nope, defaming Islam is the problem.
In order to keep followers enslaved to a barbaric and hate-filled ideology and so as to keep their vise grip on billions of citizens, Islamic leaders can't let the people even think for themselves; thinking is defamation of Islam. Therein lies one of the greatest barriers to winning "hearts and minds." The visual media of YouTube might just force a change, a reformation, or a revolution as the medium doesn't require great literacy and often has immediate impact on one's thinking and perceptions.

I never said that Islamic leaders weren't clever and able to work an effective strategy.

They just don't say it ..."Tamim said that the website contained videos that ‘sparked dissension’, especially on religious belief...."

No, FREEDOM inherently sparks dissension BY IT'S NATURE and these kinds of people cannot tolerate FREEDOM or DISSENSION

Really? And I thought youtube was one of the best tools available to propagate radical Islam and other Jihadi bullshit. Maybe if those countries ban youtube, we'll have less of that garbage, but that's just very wishful thinking.

Always On Watch,

The problem they don't understand, or refuse to accept, is that Hamas, Hizbollah, and other jihadist organizations do more to make Islam look bad than people like Robert Spencer or Geert Wilders.

Damien,

Based on the amount of sympathy Hamas and Hezbollah recieve around the world, it would appear that their actions have little effect on the West's perception of Islam. Most of the world sees them as resistance fighters before they see them as Muslims, thanks in part to how the media and leftists portray them.

Damien,

I understand that, however, Geert Wilders and Robert Spencer are still a minority being drowned out by the PC-nature of modern Western society, even though they have become more popular in recent years. Since Western media and governments are so adamant on emphasizing how Islam is a peaceful religion hijacked by a minority of radicals, the ignorant public believes it. Since a large part of the public (especially the left) is convinced that Islam is a peaceful religion, people like Mr. Wilders and Mr. Spencer are viewed as racists and radicals for showing the true face of Islam. 9/11 was a wake-up call for Americans; however, it was a very fleeting one. Once the hysteria of the tragedy wore off and since there haven't been any terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since then, many Americans believe that it was just a warped few that acted in the name of Islam rather than the institution itself.

Enemy retreat from the youtube stealth jihad battlefront? Too many uncomfortable truths messing with the carefully crafted propataquidawa?

Freedom Akbar!

Anonymous,

Don't get your hopes up. They are still trying to use "stealth Jihad" on YouTube, they're just banning it in countries that have already been Islamized because there's still too many people on there that speak the truth. Still in a way its a good sign, since it means that YouTube isn't doing all it can to appease them and people are still speaking out there.
