Obama Upsets Sarkozy With Letter to Jacques Chirac

Always on Watch comments that this is proof positive that Obama is not up to the job of President of the United States.

I agree.

In his latest faux pas Obama managed to pi$$ off France...
President Obama wrote Jacques Chirac saying he was looking forward to working with the former French president in the coming four years(?)
Monsters and Critics reported:

US President Barack Obama has indirectly praised former French president Jacques Chirac's fierce opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq, the online edition of the daily Le Figaro reported on Thursday.

In a letter described by Chirac as 'very nice,' Obama wrote, 'I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world.'

The use of the word 'peace' was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed as senator.
No Pasaran has more on the bizarre letter to Chirac.

French newspaper Le Figaro is horrified at the faux pas. And, current French President Sarkozy was appparently upset with the letter.
Europumas and Free Republic has the latest:

Now Obama has insulted French President Sarkozy!

Oh no! Obama sent a letter to Chirac, saying he looks forward to working with him the next four years. Le Figaro, French newspaper is horrified at the faux pas. Doesn't Obama ever consult his staff before acting? Sarkozy is the President there! It's like Sarko writing to George Bush and saying he looks forward to working with him. Chirac is the FORMER president.

Seriously, how could it be that Barack Obama, nor, apparently, any of his assistants with a hand in his correspondence, does not know that Sarkozy is the President of France.

Nicolas Sarkozy is the second biggest celebrity President in the world, with a much hotter wife than Barack has.

Is Obama stupid? I never thought so before.

narcissistic S.O.B.

I do not think Obama is dumb,I think he knows exactly what he is doing, however, since I am not a patholigical liar, manipulating schemer or suffer from narcissistic personality disorder...then I for the life of me cannot begin to understand why he is insulting our allies.

Imagine the fury in the MSM if Bush had done something like this?

I'm starting to wonder whether he didn't roll out the red carpet for Gordon Brown because he thought he was still chancellor of the exchequer rather than the Prime Minister?

Personally I wouldn't trust Obama or any of his crew flipping burgers let alone running America.

WW3 here we come!

I hope he can improve relations with Brezhnev.

BHO put it in writing, for pity's sake.

Who proofs the material?

This wasn't an offhand comment "under pressure."

What were his grades at Columbia?

From an email I received today:

The University of Notre Dame is reportedly offering an honorary doctorate of law degree to Barack Obama in exchange for his being a commencement speaker at graduation.

I wonder if that offer will now be rescinded.

Between Obama's giggle fest on 60 minutes at the expense of the nation's economy, and this letter to CHIRAC(!) - perhaps its time we demand a urine sample of our dear leader.

It's all a part of Obama's stragety. Or strategy. Anywho Obama thinks his personality can win out over anything and if he can appeal to enough people somebody somewhere will want to listen to him.

You'll see more of this. Obama is videotaping personal messages and offers of assistance to Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill, Newt Gingrich, and Tony Soprano.

I'm confused. Did Obambi think Chirac was still president of France or did he know damn well he wasn't and sent a letter to him instead of Sarkozy anyway?

Either way, I'm picking up some extra bottled water and canned goods at the market today. Because the lights may be on at the White House but noooooobody is home...

Which is the worse insult, Revere? I'd go with that being the true story :)

Obama writes letter to Chirac - blogosphere goes crazy
By Jimmy Orr | 03.23.09

Want to know how quickly rumors get spread on the Internet? Here’s a prime example.

The right side of the web is apoplectic this morning claiming that President Obama doesn’t know who the French president is.

They point to an article in the French newspaper Le Figaro reporting that President Obama last week wrote a letter to former French President Jacques Chirac.

“I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world,” Obama is purported to have written.

Wrong guy

This has electrified the Internet. Why would President Obama initiate correspondence with Mr. Chirac instead of President Nicolas Sarkozy?

One excited blogger writes, “Doesn’t Obama ever consult his staff before acting? Sarkozy is the President there! It’s like Sarko writing to George Bush and saying he looks forward to working with him. Chirac is the FORMER president.”

That’s a good heads up. But let’s dig a little deeper.

French-speaking pal

Our handy colleague, Laurent Belsie, who writes the New Economy blog here at the Monitor, speaks French. (We don’t hold that against him.)

With his help we found out that another French newspaper, the New Observer, explained that Obama was merely replying to a Chirac letter who was writing him as the head of his foundation — the Jacques Chirac Foundation for sustainable development and cultural dialogue.

The foundation is promoting access to water and medicines in west Africa, combating deforestation in the Congo Basin, and trying to save dying languages in Polynesia, according to a spokesman who helped set up the foundation.

Teleprompter jokes

Of course it is much more fun to write things like “Maybe President Obama’s correspondence office needs a teleprompter too!” But in fact, there doesn’t seem to be a controversy here.

Le Figaro did opine in its article that “in using the word ‘peace,’ Obama was offering an implicit homage to the former French president who had opposed the Iraq war.”

But other French news organizations confirmed with Chirac’s entourage that they believed the reference was not in regards to the Iraq war but to Chirac’s current work as head of the foundation.

Whatever. In any case, there is no evidence that the language has upset President Sarkozy or anyone else in France.

obummer is a plastic face on an evil and ravenous beast which seeks to destroy anything which carries the righteous aroma of America's Judeo-Christian heritage both here or overseas. It doesn't matter whether or not he's stupid, he's obedient.

BHO is a lawyer. He should have specified.

I would NOT dismiss this so fast EPA. The actual President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, who has been trying for months to get a sit-down with President Obama cannot possibly be amused.

Isn't there some protocol where the new president makes official contact with other heads-of-state (particularly those of allied countries) BEFORE making contact with other obsolete dignitaries?

Obama has gone out of his way to insult our allies and make nice nice with our enemies.

Dear Herr Hitler,

Last year I was in Berlin at the Brandenberg Gate and look forward to forming my own civilian force that is just as well funded as the military. I believe you had a similar organization called the SS, I would be happy to work with you in forming an American version.

No matter, Obama is still an ignoramus.

Since I'm relatively fluent in French I read most of the commentaries posted on the main French newspapers (nevermind the blogs).

Those who don't like "Sarko" were thrilled and all others were uneasy about this rudeness. The same people who argued that 25 CDs is a wonderful gift can spin it as much as they want; it was still an insult.

Or maybe not. Did you see what is the position of the EU countries towards the spendulus (hint Merkel and Sarkozy)? EU countries don't "buy" O'hama and his ideas anymore. Or at least not so fast as "the one" would like to.

With regards to Brown, the (only EU leader who blindly supports Bambiconomics so far), most likely the "colored" WH is so entranced into Britain support of slavery (?) and they really REALLY feel to give him a lesson.

Either that or outright stupidity; I stopped to make a difference.

Cheers.
