You say nothing, and the 7th Fleet arrives. Point made. No publicity. No statements

China said a U.S. naval vessel was conducting illegal surveying activities off its southern island of Hainan, a Hong Kong television website reported on Tuesday, after the Pentagon said Chinese ships had harassed the vessel in international waters.

"The U.S. navy vessel concerned has been in China's special economic zone conducting illegal surveying activities," said a statement from the Chinese embassy in Washington, reported by the website of Hong Kong-based Phoenix Television (news.ifeng.com).

"China cannot accept these baseless accusations. China demands that the United States halt all illegal surveying activities," said the statement

This ship whose top speed is 10-12 knots, and is unarmed was in international waters. The last time the USA was challenged over this issue, and EVERY time the USA has been challenged over this issue, the result was the same as it was in 1986 in the Gulf of Sidra.

This ship was run off by multiple trawlers who threatened collision at sea. The US ship drove them back several times with FIRE HOSES.

US Navy enforcement of international water passage rights are essential for this nation. We should be sanguine that the Chinese have unquestionably set this up. We should EXPECT Type 93 subs to be waiting and react accordingly, but the response should leave no doubt in the minds of China as to the resolve or lack of same in the president and those whose duty is to carry out the orders he gives.

The world awaits Mr. Obama's response which so far has consisted of ORDERING THIS UNARMED VESSEL OUT OF THE AREA CHALLENGED BY CHINESE TRAWLERS.

It doesn't matter what the ship was doing, it was in international waters...TWELVE MILES.

Who are you Barack Obama?
China asks.

No wonder the tepid response toward bho's speech- from our Marines....
Why are our Navy ships unarmed? That was my first thought when I heard this news story...

C-CS,

Based on what I understood, the USS Impeccable was manned by civilians contracted by the Navy. The crew likely had small arms for personal defense, but not much more.

well done!! A pity they didn't sink the US ship!!!
What are the US doing with the Chinese all these years?
Why all these investments to China? US leaders have forgotten who is China?
Of course the cheap labour makes forget human rights, democracy etc...
On the other hand, factories close in Europe, people stay unemployed...very nice...
Hypocrisy revealed at last...
