Waiting for the Other Shoe

Just a couple quick points.

Before anyone poo poos the existance of suitcase nukes, that they couldn't posibly exist, I'll point out the Davy Crockett, which may be overly large for a suitcase but certainly not a backpack. Remember, it's just the guts of this thing that need to be transported.

Secondly, if this guy is correct, then they've already hit NYC and D.C. Might Philly be next?

Thirdly, if this guy is correct, life for muslims in this country is going to get very very ugly.

Muslim Who Predicted 9/11 Says Nuclear Attack is Imminent
H/T – AZ_Conservative.

Is another 9/11 set to unfold?
By Lee Benson
Deseret News

Earlier this year, quite by happenstance, I read a book written by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter James B. Stewart.

“Heart of a Soldier” tells the story of two men who, well before it happened, foretold not only of the terrorist attack of 9/11 but also the 1993 bombing in the World Trade Center parking garage that preceded it.

One of the men, Rick Rescorla, was chief of security for Morgan Stanley with an office in the World Trade Center. He died on 9/11, but not before he shepherded all but six of Morgan Stanley’s 2,700 employees to safety because of a well-prepared and well-executed evacuation plan. He’d have made it out, too, had he not gone back in the building looking for those six.

The other man, Daniel J. Hill, is still alive.

With another Sept. 11 approaching I wanted to talk to The Man Who Predicted 9/11.

Although the primary focus in Stewart’s book is on Rescorla — a bona fide hero for his actions on 9/11 — I found Hill to be an even more fascinating character.

It was Hill who converted to Islam as a young U.S. Army paratrooper stationed in Beirut in 1958. It was Hill who learned fluent Arabic. It was Hill who joined the Mujahedeen Freedom Fighters in Afghanistan and fought the Soviet invasion there in the 1980s. It was Hill who personally met Osama bin Laden. It was Hill who used information from Islamic extremists to warn Rescorla that terrorists would use the underground parking garage for a car bomb attack on the World Trade Center. It was Hill who asked the U.S. government to assist him in an assassination attempt on bin Laden in 1998 (the request was rejected). And it was Hill who warned the FBI just weeks before Sept. 11, 2001, that his Mideast contacts told him “something big” was about to happen in the United States, in New York, Washington, D.C., or Philadelphia — maybe all three.

Through the Internet I managed to contact Hill at his home in Florida. He’s 71 now. I asked him if his reputation as a terrorism prognosticator without parallel has changed his life much.

“Oh, that blew over pretty fast,” he said. “Most of the people even in my hometown don’t know any of that stuff.”

He didn’t want to talk about the past. He wanted to talk about the future.

The very near future.

The man who predicted 9/11 is worried that its sequel is imminent.

“Muslims that I talk to say things like, ‘America thinks they’re safe now. They’ve forgotten about 9/11. But watch, Daniel. Stay near your TV. It’s going to be bigger than 9/11,’ ” he said.

Hill said the next terrorist attack will involve suitcase nuclear bombs that will be detonated in small, low-flying two-seater private airplanes manned by men hanging onto the belief that, like the 9/11 hijackers, they are about to die as martyrs and enter paradise.

He is not alone in suggesting such a scenario. A 2007 book, “The Day of Islam,” spells out the details, as do any number of Internet sites about a plot called “American Hiroshima.”

The nukes, he said, will be detonated over New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

I asked Hill, “Why now?”

“Eight years from 1993 to 2001, eight years from that 9/11 to this 9/11,” he said. “Symbolism. They’re big on symbolism.”

“Ramadan started two weeks ago Saturday,” he said, referring to the Muslim holy month of fasting. “It always hits around Ramadan.”

Eight years ago, Hill predicted the attack would come on Oct. 16 — almost in the middle of that year’s Ramadan (the timing of Ramadan varies from year to year). He was about a month off.

“I don’t know the second, hour or day. I just know they have the means, will, motivation and desire to do it,” he said, noting that it’s believed that years ago the suitcase nukes, acquired from former USSR operatives, were smuggled into America across the Mexican border.

Hill said he has warned the FBI, the CIA and others in government. For the past two years, he’s sent out proposals for a book on the subject. All he’s gotten back are rejections.

“To most people, I am a deviant personality,” he said.

But there’s no arguing his credentials.

“I’m a Muslim,” he says. “I’m a special ops expert, I’m a terrorist and I’ve lived among Muslims. I fought the Russians with the same guys we’re now fighting in Afghanistan. I met Osama. I volunteered to assassinate him. I know (the enemy) so well because I’ve worked, slept and prayed alongside them for years. I’ve become one of them. I know their nature, I know their culture, I know how they think. I can quote the Koran like a Southern Baptist minister can quote the New Testament. I know these are people who do not tire, who do not quit. There are odds this won’t happen, but they aren’t big odds.”

“I hope you’re wrong,” I told him.

“Yeah. I hope so, too,” he said.

Both the USSR and USA have created suitcase nukes; but they both deny it. What is a definite fact is that both states had the know-how to miniaturize nukes that could fit in backpacks. The Davy Crockett is also one tough customer (weighs only 51 pounds and packs the equivilent of 20 tons of TNT).

Of course you can 'carry' a nuke. You can carry an artillery shell. And you can remove the nuclear warhead from the (heavy) casing and put it in a backpack or a "suitcase".

Ever since the emergence of the nuclear artillery shell, the "existence" of a portable nuclear weapon has been "theoretically plausible" even though it has been denied officially.

hmmm well isnt that a decidedly unpleasant development...

I might hit costco this weekend and stock up on spam just for ramadan...

From what I've read, nukes degrade and must continually be kept in a ready state. If there were any suitcase nukes from even five years ago, they're probably useless now.

Of course, just spreading a bunch of radioactive dust through the tailpipe of a car will empty out a city pretty quickly.

Anon. -- I'd be inclined to agree with that if it weren't for Litvinenko.

I don't believe that was a Putin (or anyoneelse) ordered hit. That was a mule job gone wrong.

Anonymous probably doesn't know about Litvinenko.

Yes, quite right. I should have provided that myself.

Anyone interested might also want to check out the series of articles A J Strata did at the Strata-sphere on Litvinenko back then:

And, by the way, the dose was worth $10 million.

Does that sound like a hit, or does that sound like a smuggling operation:

Anon - I read the same thing last night on some military-type website.

Good lord, I hope there really are not miniature "live" nukes in this country.

Geeze, like we didn't have enough to worry about. . .

Paul Williams has dealt with the issue of nuclear degradation in "Day of Islam", as have others elsewhere. There is no reason to assume that the jihadists will have to rely on devices that have been in this country long enough to degrade, not with operatives like Shukrijumah still running around loose.

Are any of Mr. Hill's "Muslims that I talk to" passing this information on to someone who might actually do something about it, or are they just gloating to their "brother" Daniel? I appreciate Mr. Hill's efforts to warn us about 9/11 and the current threat. However, I would like to know why the hell he is still a Muslim. The capacity of some people for compartmentalization never fails to astound.

And should, by some chance, this plot actually be pulled off, does anyone else wonder what it will give Obama an excuse to do next? Or are these the sort of Islamists who would prefer to nuke Teh One because they are so pissed off about his being "apostate" that it overrides the fact that he's the best friend in this country they've ever had?

I think they'd like us all dead, including the occupants of the white house and congress, no matter how sympathetic they seem to be to the jihadist grievances.

If that happens, I hope I am killed. Not interested in living in a post-apocalyptic USA. . .

I see they left Boston off the list this time. Sometimes we make the cut, sometimes we don't.

I mentioned this a while back as a possibility (albeit a long long long shot) - that Obama is deliberately appeasing the Muslims to provoke them into striking again so that immediately there are no moral arguments when the West retaliates. Let's say that this attack transpires Obama could basically appear on TV and say "Ok, we've given you this, this , this, and this, and you have thrown it back in our faces, so now you are going to pay" and NOBODY would question it and he'd have carte blanche to do whatever he wanted.

I'll be the first to admit though that this is a long shot but worth keeping in mind.

One argument for this mentality is that it allows us to deal with the Islamic problem whilst their populations are quite small in Western countries in comparison to everyone else. Here in Britain for example there are a couple of million which is a lot however thats only 3% of the population in total. I know 3 million is plenty to cause a hell of a lot of trouble but it's manageable.

Off topic but way to go with the tea parties! I'm glad I read blogs though because the MSM in Britain have largely ignored it but that's to be expected.

Sorry Just Cause - NO WAY.

Obama eats his own dog food.

This is going to come down to the grunt level where men and women do their jobs without regard to anything else.

I wonder if even a nuclear attack would lead to more than a 'who should we attack' response, or 'the perpetrators will be tracked down and arrested'

Can anyone see this admin obliterating every living thing from Kabul to Islamabad and going on to do what in Wahabbiland?

Use neutron weapons to leave places like Abqaiq intact?

Are these people who lead us, prepared for all out war?

Are the american people?

Michael Travis said...

Golly! Davy Crockett was deployed 55 years ago...when radios weighed several pounds and televisions were massive devices.

Do you imagine, just maybe, weapon systems have been miniaturized along with our iPods and LED screens?

And by the way.... nukes do not age as alleged in the previous comments, their ignition systems do... and guess what? The "fuses" are the easiest component to smuggle into North America.

Peace.

Michael Travis said...

If Arabs launch another attack against the United States, Obama will retaliate against Canada, El Salvador, or Japan. And the American people will support him.

If this horrific plan happens it will be over for Obama. It will be over for the progressives. It will be all about God and guns.

It's amusing that some think it will be politics as usual after 7 nukes go off! Are you kidding?

It's also amusing to think Obama wants to crush the Islamic world. Please. He's an ankle grabber and this appeasement will invite an event he does not want. This isn't the crisis Rahm was talking about.

I regret sending this to my friends. I must've scared the hell out of them.

This all ties in with Israel. If AQ has nukes then Iran would have them as well. Between AQ Kahn and reverse engineering there would be no need for all this build up.

If Israel strikes Iran I do foresee Hezbollah and AQ striking here.

Also watch Germany. Elections are coming and some jihadis bragged of dealing Germany a blow greater than 9/11. The "gift" of which Bin Laden speaks for Ramadan? Ramadan ends the 20th. The Night of Power is the 16th. German elections are the 27th.

They always hit before elections.

Michael -- re:Davy Crockett -- my point exactly.

And with Litvinenko, I believe he was carrying the polonium for fuses. That needs to be replaced every six motnhs, I think.

Pastorius said...

That's right, MR. Polonium is the detonation system in older Soviet nukes, and it's half-life is about 3-6 months.

So, if a group has an older soviet nuke and they want to use it, they have to get their hands on Polonium.
