Going Galt on the Public School System

I have decided to pull my youngest child from the middle school she had been attending and to home school her myself.  The reasons have been multiplying, mostly based upon incompetence and institutionalized insanity, but the last two straws were when she came home and told us that one of her teachers very loudly stated that anyone who believed that global warming was a fraud and a hoax was, and I quote: AN IDIOT.  All year long, she had to bite her precious lower lip to keep from scoffing at a certain  indoctrinatrix about the fact that "CO2 was NOT a poison, DUH!" (her 7th grade scientific response). And now, she was being called an idiot by the same blithering gaggle of gobbledygeeks who KNOW BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT more than you.

The final straw was even more serious than the imbecivility displayed by the 7th Grade Dunce Squad.

On the day that Israel was attacked and had to kill 9 terrorists aboard the Turkish Flotilla of Fools who opened fire on them and savagely beat them with pipes and knives as they dropped down to the decks, she said, watching the news unfold on television, quiet and simply: "Israel's bad."
"Bad?" say I, unbelieving.
"Yeah," she repeats. "They do mean things and steal other people's land."
"Who told you that?" I ask.
"All my teachers say so."  She didn't have a reason to question it the way she did with global warming, after all, she had 10 snow days to make up this year, and won't be getting out of school until the 14th. With Israel, on the other hand, she only knows what she hears...and maybe they AREN'T lying about Israel.

"Honey, Israel is the only democracy in the middle east. It is surrounded by hostile enemies whose religion tells them to KILL THE JEWS and CHRISTIANS.
"Are they Muslims?" She asks.
"Yes. And their holy book tells them to always fight and kill the Jews and the Infidels....which is us." I no longer add that all too familiar *clause which will prove how tolerant I am, because it just isn't true anymore, and I simply don't care. The evidence is to the contrary. (*Not all Muslims are terrorists) Maybe they aren't but the Koran is a terrorist manual, and you can't tell me that a lifetime of hearing KILL KILL KILL! DIE DIE DIE! over and over again from infancy won't leave a mark. Enough. Khalas! Islam is putrid evil. Quit amending your statements to be more sensitive. It is enough. Tell the truth brazenly. It is the only weapon of substance we have left.

Well, what followed was an intense hour of serious history, taught by yours, very truly, to my 13-year old daughter. I wouldn't let her leave without hearing it. Simply put, it was way too important. So she sat there and afterward, asked questions:

Why does everyone hate the Jews so much, if they aren't bad?
Did the Jews steal everyone's land?
Do they kill Palestinian babies?

On and on and on it went. When I finished, she said:
"I wish you were my history teacher."

So now, I am. And the first thing we are going to learn is WHY JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU WERE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL IS A LIE.

But wait! There's more school induced anger and outrage:  New school fundraising tactic: Be prepared to vomit fire from the slowly smoldering rage gland you didn't even know you had.
This video is not safe for glass and other breakable objects. Have someone restrain you with duct tape when you watch it.

Not to leave anyone with the feeling that the situation is hopeless, I leave you with this - and God bless 'im for being so brave. We need to be like this. I need to be like this. You need to be like this. This is what you call "Speaking Truth to Cowards."

You have my admiration and best wishes. One reason I never had kids is that I believe I sensed that there would be no way they could get through the school system without mommy doing time for horsewhipping numerous teachers and administrators. (And a person with ADD makes a lousy home schooler.)

It is sickening that they are being taught this about Israel. I think of my childhood in a largely Jewish community where we sang "Exodus" at assembly and somehow at age 12 I wound up president of something called (phonetically) the Kaffar O Harbi Girls and I could just cry. Or get the horsewhip and go looking for your daughter's teachers. For shame. Some of these schools will have to be de-Nazified in 10 years if this keeps up.

Yes, they will have to be deNazified. I'm getting a headstart.

Good for you Jewel.

I would imagine my life is going to come to this too.

My wife and I simply can't afford it. Maybe we'll have to set up a Christian commune, or something.

I'm very proud of what you did. You are a big, big human being.

You gets around Gerard!

I have to notify the school district as to my intention of homeschooling, and part of the letter is going to be about the Israel slander and the global warming insult. Here, in Lancaster County, there is a huge homeschooling organization, and the districts bend over backwards to either accommodate them with extra space for classes, or including the tots in extra curricular activities. I guess they remembered that homeschooling parents also pay the school taxes, too.

decided to HS my child -still in the womb-early 80's-- I knew that the basics were not being taught correctly and I wanted my off-spring to learn --reading-writing-arithmetic---
went to my first Home educators convention-child was 8 months old--
heard a man named Marshall Foster (Mayflower Institute) speak on the true history of this Republic-
knew I had been lied to (propagandized)--
did an 'about face'-socially and politically --never turned back--"child" was accepted at a top institution...
Go for it Jewel!!

Now you're cooking with gas Jewel!

Took my HS son out plinking cans today with a neighbour kid who is public schooled. Practically had to set the can on the ground right in front of the kid before he could hit it even once. My kid was pinging them quite often out to about 50 yards with our new 22cal air rifle. And it's only his third day shooting.

Some (surely not here) might ask how shooting relates to schooling, but I'd point out that education is supposed to be about transferring practical knowledge to those who are likely to need it. And what could be more practical than knowing how to hit what you're aiming at. Nuff said.

Hi Jewel.
I must commend you on your decision to take your child out of that"School" schools who spread hatred should be closed down.I would act excactly the same way you did.As a child i was asked more then once to leave the classroom for questioning what was told (Catholic dogma). It was in those days priests (Jesuit) who would teach religion. But i never regretted questioning what was tought to me,it's what makes us free individuals and independant minds."Only the educated are free"Epictetus (55 AD - 135 AD)

Here is another reason I am home schooling: The reliance of LOCAL schools upon federal funding has corrupted the thinking of administrators, who seek financial rewards by placing very normal children into 'special needs' classes. She did not have any learning disabilities, but she suffered a stultified education with other students who were either mentally retarded or were psychologically disturbed with behavior problems for other teachers. This they do as a way of reaping huge financial gains. The more 'special needs' children, the bigger the payoff.
Parents are cajoled and bullied by counselor into placing our kids with the more feeble students, even when the evidence may actually be that they are advanced or gifted.
Don't think I am being rude or hateful here. Kids who don't have the ability to control themselves in a classroom are disruptive, and they aren't getting anything special about their special ed classes. When Rachel was having problems in math, instead of tutoring her, they pulled her out of other classes to put her in a sped class. This accomplished two things...she didn't learn any math, and she fell behind in the class from which she was removed in the first place. They actually created a problem where there was none.
When she got her report card from her sped class, it read that she had mastered...MASTERED?! 99% of her goals! I sarcastically asked her if her goal was to be bored 99% of the time, and would you be surprised to learn that it was? Ahh... sweet success!

I've been working with groups of homeschoolers since 1998.

All sorts of networks of homeschoolers are out there. Some, like the one I work with, conduct classes in subject areas with which parents aren't comfortable teaching their children. Some of the groups offer classes that aren't worth enrolling in; on the other hand, most groups offer advanced classes. In all cases, parents are intensely involved with the material covered and the curriculum used.

The reliance of LOCAL schools upon federal funding has corrupted the thinking of administrators, who seek financial rewards by placing very normal children into 'special needs' classes.

Yep. This is happening all over the United States.

Agree, being "CODED" is the ticket to a bigger budget for School depts.

Why not SAT's combined > 1350?

Why not % of employed HS graduates 24 months after graduation if no college, combined with graduating from 2 or 4 year degree programs? Our govr payrolls are now larger than private .. so I can't believe we cannot track that.

Currently with people like William Ayers (an American elementary education theorist) help in DECIDING what a curriculum must be, the education system is a re-education camp system.
