Harry Potter Actress' Family Attempts To Murder Her For "Honor"

She's the one on the right

From Watcher

(UK) Afshan Azad is a 22-year-old British actress famous for appearing in a number of Harry Potter films. Problem is she is a Muslim, and somewhere along the line that appears to have offended her father and brother. Which is probably why they were both charged on Tuesday of threatening to kill and assault Afshan causing actual bodily harm.

Pastorius,

This makes me glad that Harry Potter is extremely popular. Maybe this will bring some much needed attention to the subject of honor killing.

Don't hold your breath waiting for HRH J.K. Rowling to come to this poor young woman's defense. She is PC to the bone. (Sorry to sound pissed, but some of us HP fans learned that the hard way.)

Afshan was playing one sister of apparently Hindu twins, which could have set the touchy Azad men off by itself, and that would be several years ago when she was a teen.

Revere Rides Again,

I wasn't holding my breath hoping for Rowling to step in. I don't know enough about her to judge how she will or will not react to this. She maybe too PC, as you just said, I don't know. However, given the popularity of her stories, that along may bring some attention to this that it otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Also the fact that this young woman is an actress may also attraction more attention to the story. I was fed up with the circus that the news media created surrounding OJ. This maybe somewhat of an exaggeration but if OJ sneezed there would be a news anchor there to report it, and you wouldn't have gotten anything remotely like that had he not been a superstar athlete.

Read on Perez Hilton's blog that the brother and father are out on bail. I sure hope the poor girl has police protection!!!

OMG, I hope she is in hiding. Unfortunately, she is not playing a major character in the HP series, or there would be a lot more fan interest and concern. But it will be interesting to see how this plays out on the fan sites.

An uncharged brother is more worried that they will get harassed about this than he is about the well-being of his sister:

Speaking at the family’s semi-detached home, her brother Ashraf, a customer services adviser, said: ‘We are going to get trouble from the community now. It is bad news for our safety, her safety.

‘My younger brother is going to get harassed at college. All our family is going to be harassed by the community because of this.

‘Her career could be ruined. When she goes to a premiere or something, they are going to ask her about this not about the film.’

David,

I hope she has police protection as well. I'll pray for her.

That is just amazing that they let them out on bail.

Disgusting and sad.

That poor girl. It's good that people are praying for her.

If anyone has ruined her career it's her Dark Ages muslim father and brother. Which was probably their intent in the first place.

Why is it "bad news for her safety", Ash-hat? Does "honor killing" extend to killing someone who brings "shame" on the neighborhood? Or just unwelcome attention from the Kuffar?

Revere Rides Again,

Well, if you're concerned about this, as is everyone here, and maybe if you know someone who runs a blog who might be interested in reporting this story, you could send them a link. I haven't seen or heard anything else on it so far, other than the story David Sent us.

Actually, I'm keeping track of the comments on the HP fansite "Leaky Cauldron" which posted the story yesterday. Someone did refer the the Aqsa Parvez "honor killing". So far reaction has been "why do you think it has to do with regligion?" but this could be interesting to watch.

It would be great if you could write up a little report complete with the various comments you find of interest.
