Unemployment Compensation ...PAY FOR HALF AND PASS IT ..or the people will blame BOTH PARTIES AND THE PREZ

Today the man so concerned about the deficit and debt he both appointed a 'bipartisan' commission (a la 9/11/2001) to defuse the death by electric chair which would attend any single party should they actually be serious about it, and so upset about the mounting red, HE FLEW HIS DOG TO BAR HARBOR ON IT'S OWN FRICKIN PLANE. Now the WH will tell you that Air Force one could not have landed in Trenton Maine, nearest Bar Harbor because the runway is too small, so small planes had to be used, so more than one was was needed for the DOG+

HOWEVER 45 MILES AWAY IN BANGOR AT THE OLD STRATEGIC AIR FORCE BASE, AND AN ACTIVE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TODAY, WHERE THE MEN AND WOMEN COME IN FROM IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN, WHERE B-52'S, B-47'S, B-36'S, C-5'S AND ANTONOV'S AND 747'S LAND THEY CALL COULD EASILY HAVE FIT IN SOMETHING LARGE ENOUGH TO SAVE THE MONEY A SECOND PLANE COST, BUT THEY WOULD HAVE HAD TO DRIVE LIKE ACTUAL PERSONS TO BAR HARBOR.

The place is so big that if you type Bangor, Maine into Google earth you CANNOT MISS IT at default resolution.

So this morning upon reading his castigation of the cruel unfeeling republicans, who wan the extension to unemployment paid for somehow, it was just a bit torquing to think the money spent on a second plane could easily have been saved AS A DEMONSTRATION OF RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR in that way, for that purpose. Or the dog and any others could have stayed in DC.

But the bottom line if one denies the argument that many many unemployed are avoiding work to collect at a higher rate, is that the democrats and repubs CANNOT COMPROMISE to extend benefits.

IOW, the government does not work.

The blame for that will not go onto the republicans, Mr, President, when every poll shows how stomach wrenchingly concerned the people are about deficit and debt .. it will just fall on all shoulders in DC and strengthen another group.

Oh man I get so tired of that "avoiding work" meme. It's such bullshit.

Don't misunderstand me I am sure there are many who are. But they are still a minority. The truth is there are no jobs because the government is not creating incentive to create jobs.

Companies are hiring short term contract workers instead so they don't have to pay benefits or keep someone on full time. I ran into it myself. I had an ok (not great) offer for a 12 week contract job that would have poaid far more than my benefits are currently paying.

So, to protect myself, I called unemployment and asked. And they said that while they couldn't say for sure UNTIL AFTER THE CONTRACT HAD BEN QUIT, it was a 50/50 shot that I would be INELIGIBLE to restart my benefits if I needed to when the contract expired. Because I would then be considered self employed.

Now, if I were a single man not tied to homke or family I would take that risk. But after the contract would expire and the income flow stopped I'd still have mouths to feed and a mortgage to pay.

So not only are they not providing incentives to companies to create permanent jobs, they are not creating incentives for workers to take smaller contract work to hold them over.

So I'm still among those looking, not dropping out. But it is not encouraging.

The current percentage of people of working age actually working is 58% (I think). THAT'S the number America needs to know. Not this bullshit unemployment number that doesn't count those who have given up or whose benefits have expired.

We had a great conversation on this (with Brooks Kelley in on it) on The Gathering Storm show
on Friday.

This country is in a crash and burn tailspin. I've pretty much made up my mind that come November I don't care who the incumbent is, out they go.

I couldn't agree more.

IMHO - Unemployed being reported+underemployed+those off the back end of the unemployment benefits >= 23-25%

It is my belief that right now our economy is alike a cube of sugar in the bottom of a glass of cold lemonade.

Maybe it will hold its shape .. but not if there are a few good knocks.

My son has been unemployed in NH for >1 yr. When there is an interview he feels like he has won the lottery.

Something is coming

Obama mustered all hands on deck in an attempt to harshly reprimand all opposition to extending unemployment benies - just like a turn of the century 'illusionist'. Unemployment #'s due to Obama's policies are continue to grow, and will multiply exponentially as the insane liberal "redistributing wealth" tax structure readjusts in the next few months. Obama's economic engineering has killed all non-government related job growth. Obama redirects msm focus on unemployment benefits instead of job creation.

The number of foreclosures and short sales in my area rival the number of employment opportunities. My local paper's classifieds section for employment opportunities doesn't even fill one side of one page. Can anyone name a non-government related person they know who benefitted from federal spending since Obama took office? I know of NOT ONE such individual.

I don't know how opld your son is but one of the aggravating things I run into is, being a year and short change shy of 50 with 20 yrs at the same place, the "We'll hire someone much younger and a little less experienced and pay him half" situation.

grr. . .

the GOP's Love Affair with Congenitally Failed Free Trade Ideology.. formerly known as Looting the DOA Middle Class again... bankrupted the whole F'n World.. and lost 7,000,000 jobs before that.. doubled the Debt under their Wet Brain Alcoholic drug addict AWOL Faux President.. Chaney's sock puppet, spent what will end up being 3 Trillion dollars for a needless/illegal war.. they have Filibustered every bill that would actually help the suffering they created.. more filibusters on this government than all the previous filibusters before in the history of the USA.. nothing other than overthrowing the elected government of the united states..

if the media weren't owned by Reich Wing extremists, that control much of the military industrial complex.. fore warned of by General/President Eisenhower.. that comment about.. why they wouldn't vote to help the Suffering they created.. should have resulted in being laughed off the stage..

that comment was really pathetic considering how many billions were sent bailing out the people who wrecked this country and the worlds economy.. that they had taken out insurance on.. ripped us off twice.. then got reimbursed 100% on bad investments.. my brother lost his retirement..$450,000.. none of the kids or the grand kids will go to college now.. they will be stuck in the Ozarks in a trailer..

i pray there is a horrific hell especially for those arrogant rat bastards to burn in for ever..

MR, he's 26 and in circuit design in NH and the software development which designs circuits. I'm 60 and one of the reasons I have no 'desire' to find a job is precisely what you state.

I've been self employed and employed a few others since 1994.

What we face in the jobs market is, in fact what america faces against other nations with ridiculously low wages.

Tariffs are not an answer Anon, it HAS to be through free trade. But there is hope if late and a dollar short. Last week Chinese workers in SE China went on strike for better wages and perks. The corporations there threatened to move their manufacturing OUT OF CHINA. To where there is cheaper and more plentiful labor? Ouagoudougou?

No one is going to resist cheaper goods for long, ANON to buy american all their lives long. Not if some hard choices come their way and they will

Capital is a force of nature, like water. It's motion is MOSTLY physics.
