Another Christmas

Another friend has passed away.

My best friend's father died this morning, lost his fight with Alzheimers. But he was more than just my best friend's father. He was a friend to me, a man I've known for 33 years.

Frank was an old Polack and a World War II veteran, enlisting in the Navy at 16, lying about is age. He served aboard a destroyer (I don't know which) that patrolled the Marianas during the Battle of the Phillipine Sea and the Mariana's Turkey Shoot.

And in the early 70's, at a time it was largely unheard of, he chose to raise his son and daughter as a single father when the mother abandoned them.

Na zdrowie, Frank.

Another Christmas in this family, another relative gone.

Burial of cremains was today, the memorial service in Saturday afternoon.

I explained more at my site. **sigh**

I haven't bothered to explain the nightmare we went through today at the cemetery. Hideous. No family should have to go through such a thing at a cemetery when laying a loved one to rest! Once I got home from the cemetery, I fell into bed and slept until just a little while ago.

MR,
Forgot to give you my condolences.

Sorry MR, but he sounds like the kind of guy who knew what the only reward we can know of for certain was - for walking the right path.

The knowledge you did it.

Sorry AoW.

Man oh man.

The only thing better than old Polacks is young Polacks. (I know that's a cryptic comment but I has my reason, heh...)

Condolences, MR. There should be a moratorium on all friends and family deaths for the whole of December.

Thank you all. My buddy and I spent a good part of yesterday and a bit of today toasting his dad. We knew it was coming but expected it to be a bit longer.

AoW -- my condolences (again) to you as well.

Epa -- indeed. I believe the correct term for Frank would have been Mensch.

Revere -- agreed. I have been to far too many December funerals in my time.
