Shariah-Compliant Finance Advisor Picked by Obama as White House Fellow
On Tuesday, President Obama announced the appointment of this year’s “White House Fellows,” a prestigious program in which outstanding Americans are chosen to work in the White House and receive “first hand, high-level experience with the workings of the Federal government.” According to a White House Press release, one of this year’s Fellows is a young lawyer named Samar Ali:
Samar Ali is an Associate with the firm Hogan Lovells US LLP. She is responsible for counseling clients on mergers & acquisitions, cross-border transactions, Shari’a compliant transactions, project finance, and international business matters.Left out of the press release is that she also previously worked as an intern and received training at the Islamic International Arab Bank; according to her staff bio at the Hogan Lovells law firm,
Samar’s experience includes advising a Middle Eastern university in the potential establishment of a Foreign Aid Conventional and Shari’ah Compliant Student Loan Program. … Before joining Hogan & Hartson, Samar worked as a summer associate for the firm and as a legal intern for the Islamic International Arab Bank. For those who have never heard of it, the Islamic International Arab Bank “commenced its banking operations in accordance with Islamic Sharia rules on the twelfth day of Shawal 1418 AH, corresponding to 9 February 1998, to meet the growing demand for Islamic banking services and products.”
What exactly is “shariah-compliant finance”? Essentially, it’s the practice of conducting all monetary matters to be in full compliance with all aspects of Islamic law. This entails such trivial details as not banking on the Muslim sabbath and holy days, but more importantly forbids paying or receiving interest of any kind (something which is the bedrock of “western” finance); modern interpretations of Islamic law prohibit “making money from money” and thus the payment of “interest” on deposits, so Shariah-compliant banks must devise all sorts of convoluted ways to redefine interest as something else altogether — such as “profits,” “dividends,” and so on.
Shariah-compliance also means only investing in or loaning to companies which themselves adhere to Islamic law, or which at least don’t generate profits from any activities forbidden by the Qur’an — such as drinking alcohol, gambling, or anything involving sexuality. And (one of the little-discussed rules you’re not supposed to know about) most shariah-complaint banks refuse on principle to invest in any company doing business in Israel — which, obviously, could not be specifically stipulated in the Qur’an, but the excuse is that companies doing business in Israel must be assumed to violate Islamic law somehow.
(Many analysts also claim, such as in the comprehensive pdf report visible here, that shariah finance is simply one aspect in a global multi-pronged assault on the West, and is essentially a euphemism for the economic side of jihad. Hmmmmm….)

CAIR's "Summer of Censorship"
From the CAIR Observatory:
On June 25, 2010 the Center for Security Policy’s CAIR Observatory publicly released the results of an investigative report exposing CAIR’s orchestrated campaign to silence critics of Jihad, Shariah and Islamic Terrorism in the 2010 election season. The following is a comprehensive guide to the documentation for the six selected instances from the “Summer of Censorship” investigation....Here are a few of the titles on the page:
CAIR Targets: Reverend Franklin Graham, Pentagon, Members of CongressMuch more HERE, with ample documentation.
CAIR Targets: Senator Charles Schumer
CAIR Targets: Tennessee Tea Party Convention, Congressman Steve King, Author Pamela Geller
CAIR promotes the concept of “Islamophobia” as part of Organization of the Islamic Conference “10 Year Plan of Action”
CAIR Targets Israel in Defense of Hamas
CAIR objects to education materials that do not conform to their version of Islam
It's easy to forget about CAIR, what with all the doings of the Obama administration and our ailing economy. But we mustn't take our eyes off the ball! CAIR is indeed doing a lot behind the scenes to advance the Islamification of America. And essential parts of that Islamification are silencing voices and political activism.
I was out and about getting a few last minute things for daughter #1's bridal shower today (yep, gun club here I come).
And I bumped into a small TEA Party organized by UnitePa-912 Reading Berks.
Small -- it was a half dozen or so people, standing on a corner near Broadcasting Square in the sun in the heat sweating their asses off by the tar of the road.
You know I had to stop and give them a big right on well done. And, of course, invite them to stop by here. Lots of cars passing by and lots of them Honking for Freedom.
I'm telling you this for no other reason than to give a shout out to Mike and his TEA Party Crew and all the others like them giving up their Saturdays to sweat their asses off by the tar of the road just to get the message out.
Ain 't That America. . .
Mr Obama I hope you're listening but I doubt it. . .
Mike -- if you send me a copy of that picture you took to the email I gave you I'll post it here if you like

Today's meaning of life question
Russia to sell PAK-FA T-50 for 33% of $ of the F-22

Russia offers fifth-generation fighters for much less than cost of F-22
Officials said Russia would offer fifth generation fighters for one-third of the cost of comparable Western aircraft. They said Russia was developing fighters that would be superior to current European and U.S. aircraft.

"It will be a machine superior to our main competitor, the F-22, in maneuverability, armament and range," Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said.
On June 17, Putin toured a Russian aerospace facility that was developing and testing a fighter-jet prototype, designed to have a shelf life of up to 35 years. Officials said the unnamed aircraft completed 16 flight tests in a program costing a reported $1 billion.
Putin said the fighter-jet program would require another $1 billion investment. He said engineers were developing the engine, avionics and weapons for the aircraft.
Russia's Sukhoi has been working on a fifth-generation aircraft called Paka Fa. The prototype of the aircraft, called T-50, was designed to surpass the performance of the U.S.-origin F-22.
"The requirements we are setting on this plane are well above those for the U.S. fifth-generation aircraft," Deputy Defense Minister Vladimir Popovkin said.
Officials said the program, begun in 1999, was meant to produce a stealth fighter with a range of up to 5,500 kilometers. They said Pak Fa, armed with advanced air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea missiles, would begin service in the Air Force in 2015.
"At the first stage, there will be dozens of planes, more than 50," Popovkin said.
Pakistani Army Head personally offering to broker a deal with the Taliban leadership
NYT: ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan is exploiting the troubled United States military effort in Afghanistan to drive home a political settlement with Afghanistan that would give Pakistan important influence there but is likely to undermine United States interests, Pakistani and American officials said.
The dismissal of Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal will almost certainly embolden the Pakistanis in their plan as they detect increasing American uncertainty, Pakistani officials said. The Pakistani Army chief, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, preferred General McChrystal to his successor, Gen. David H. Petraeus, whom he considers more of a politician than a military strategist, said people who had spoken recently with General Kayani.
Pakistan is presenting itself as the new viable partner for Afghanistan to President Hamid Karzai, who has soured on the Americans. Pakistani officials say they can deliver the network of Sirajuddin Haqqani, an ally of Al Qaeda who runs a major part of the insurgency in Afghanistan, into a power-sharing arrangement.
In addition, Afghan officials say, the Pakistanis are pushing various other proxies, with General Kayani personally offering to broker a deal with the Taliban leadership.
Washington has watched with some nervousness as General Kayani and Pakistan's spy chief, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Shuja Pasha, shuttle between Islamabad and Kabul, telling Mr. Karzai that they agree with his assessment that the United States cannot win in Afghanistan, and that a postwar Afghanistan should incorporate the Haqqani network, a longtime Pakistani asset. In a sign of the shift in momentum, the two Pakistani officials were next scheduled to visit Kabul on Monday, according to Afghan TV.
Despite General McChrystal's 11 visits to General Kayani in Islamabad in the past year, the Pakistanis have not been altogether forthcoming on details of the conversations in the last two months, making the Pakistani moves even more worrisome for the United States, said an American official involved in the administration's Afghanistan and Pakistan deliberations.
"They know this creates a bigger breach between us and Karzai," the American official said.
How the Taliban win Herats and minds wherever they are
Three American troops were reported killed and the bodies of 11 men, some beheaded, were found Friday in rising violence across Afghanistan.Mohammad Khan, deputy police chief in Uruzgan province, said a villager in the Bagh Char area of Khas Uruzgan district spotted the bodies in a field and called police.
"They were killed because the Taliban said they were spying for the government, working for the government," he said.
No doubt this was the militant faction of the otherwise moderate wing of the military arm of the Taliban, hmmm?
The theory of PAYING ATTENTION only to the optimistic evidence when negotiating peace would sense that if they could only talk to the political arm of the political Taliban, all would be well.
A massive, unmissable presence of men and arms by the USA might counteract the moral sureness of beheadings in the way of Allah. Seeing and hearing B-1's thundering past in the sky might give pause. Smelling the putrefying bodies of America's enemies, the enemies of the PEOPLE of America, might establish the kind of credibility that brings in intelligence to keep your village from becoming the mud powder which is the by product of JDAMS.
But helping persuade opium farmers they are better off raising bulghur wheat while the Taliban sharpen their ginstu's in the next village untrammeled by western conscience, as they prepare to fight, kill and die in the way of Allah IS A LOSING MESSAGE.
We are not trying to out negotiate the United Mine Wokers Union.
Why is this not clear?
This, complete with title, is from Atlas Shrugs. This is, to be sure, a frightening scene, and the Hitler placard towards the beginning of the video is ominous. However, I do not see the "goosestepping". Do you?:
It seems fitting that the Muslims would kick off their Jewish genocidal campaign in Austria, land of Hitler's youth and rise power.
Hurry Up Harry caught the whole goosestepping, blood lusty march by the Muslims calling for the annihilation of the Jews and exalting the anti-Christ himself, Hitler. Good luck with Europe. Good luck with a Jew-less continent overrun with warlike Muslims.
I wonder how torsion is in the new Europe..............
Jew Hate March in Vienna
If neo-Nazis would march in Vienna with a poster proclaiming “Hitler wake up”, the left-liberal Viennese weekly Falter would not describe this as “strange demand”, but ask why the police allowed this slogan (a criminal offence in Austria) to be shown unhindered in public. But when it reported a demonstration organized by anti-imperialist “activists” on June 1st, they found the demand “Hitler wake up” only “strange”.
The big pro-Hamas demonstration in Vienna on June 4th was different from demonstrations in other European cities. One of its main speakers was Omar al Rawi, a Social Democratic (SPÖ) member of Vienna’s local parliament (Wiener Landtag), who is also “Integrationsbeauftragter” (officially responsible for the integration of foreigners) belonging to the Muslim religious community of Austria. Omar al Rawi, who is associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, spoke in front of about 10,000 demonstrators shouting “Israel – murderers” who waived “Israel – child killer” banners.

The Coming War Between Israel And Iran
It seems everyone knows the bubble is going up except the US people. Well at least our so called Main Stream Media has not breathed a word of all this excitement to the American people. I wonder why?
... No one here has any doubt that Iran has a big weapon and that they will use it. To play the American Game (like in 1991) will mean that Israel will have to wait for Iran to fire first. The longer that time plays out, the greater the risk that the first strike will be atomic. A Hiroshima sized weapon will hurt. So who are the major players in this game assuming America sits out the opening round? They would be Iran, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. So where do the Saudis fit in? Evidently they are covert allies of Israel. Well covert as far as most of their population is concerned. Not so covert if you read The Sunday Times.
Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times can reveal.
In the week that the UN Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Tehran, defence sources in the Gulf say that Riyadh has agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran.
To ensure the Israeli bombers pass unmolested, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defence systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom’s air defences will return to full alert.
“The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way,” said a US defence source in the area. “They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren’t scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the [US] State Department.”

What The Halal?
First, sharia-compliant banking products turned out to be a "huge flop" in Britain, and now this.
Not only is the all-halal menu unpopular, it generated a huge number of complaints from non-Muslim customers angry that their favorite menu items containing pork products were taken off the menu, and, frankly, for being denied a choice.
(Daily Mail) KFC has been forced to ditch their halal-only menus at some of its stores after disappointing sales.
The fast food chain began trials last year, saying it was responding to huge demand from Britain's growing Muslim population.
But thousands of regular customers complained, including Alan Phillips, who was furious when the Burton-on-Trent branch refused to serve him his favourite Big Daddy chicken burger with bacon and cheese topping.
He was told it was forbidden to keep bacon on the same premises as halal meat and he would have to travel five miles to the nearest non-halal restaurant.
Now KFC has admitted five of its outlets - including Burton - are reverting to standard menus following poor sales.
Another that will drop the trial halal menu is the Colne takeaway in Burnley, Lancashire, where thousands of people joined a Facebook group called No Halal at Colne KFC.
Takeaways at: Accrington, Lancashire, Old Kent Road, London, and Hyde Road, Manchester, as well as Burton and Colne, will revert to full menus on 19 July.
A spokesperson for KFC blamed low demand. He said: 'We introduced our trial in areas where we expected a large demand for halal restaurants, and as with any trial, we continually evaluate results, and adapt as necessary. [...]
All pork products are forbidden by Muslim law, so participating outlets have to take them off the menu.
In March, Mr Phillips, who was refused a Big Daddy Burger in Burton, said the policy was 'extremely unfair' on non-Muslim customers.
He said: 'It was like they were saying I couldn't buy bacon because it might offend people.
'I have many friends who are black, white and Muslim but they wouldn't be forced to eat non-halal meat.
'I have no problem with them selling halal meat, but I would like the choice.'
Jihadis At The Gates
I've suspected this for several years now, considering all the beheadings down south of the border in recent times.
Congresswoman Raises Red Flag on Hezbollah-Cartel Nexus on U.S. Border
In her letter to Napolitano, Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., called on Homeland Security to find out and report more on the extent of the problem. She cited several troubling developments that would point to Hezbollah creeping closer to and inside the United States, with the help of Mexican drug gangs.
“It is vital we know what is happening on our border, especially as crime and violence continue to rise there and as terrorist plots and threats are increasing inside the U.S.,” she wrote.
Myrick outlined a complex set of potential threats and evidence of their existence. She said “Iranian agents and members of Hezbollah” are thought to be learning Spanish in Hugo Chavez-run Venezuela before trying to obtain false documents to enter the United States as purported Mexicans. She said Hezbollah, known for its tunnel-digging skill, could be receiving drug money from cartel operations in exchange for help forging better tunnels across the U.S. border for trafficking.
She said gang members in prisons in the American southwest are starting to show up with tattoos in Farsi, implying a “Persian influence that can likely be traced back to Iran and its proxy army, Hezbollah.”
DIVISION WITHIN THE TEA PARTY ??!!
When I went to another Tea Party Chapter meeting to network and see how they run their meetings, the flack began. “That F’in idiot John Press” one member was exclaiming loudly in conversation when I entered the meeting. Shocked because I thought I had brought some good publicity to the Tea Party! When I finally calmed the movement leader down, I found he had some valid and interesting reasons to criticize me.
Many members have worked very hard to make the “Tea Party brand.” Being smeared as racists (the leaders who chastised me was black), fringe truthers concerned with Obama’s birth certificate, and dangerous militia folk, made people skittish about joining the Tea Party. Party strategists have, therefore, worked to make Tea Party membership only indicate a devotion to fiscal conservativism and upset over our nation's out-of-control borrowing. Eventually, we may be able to diversify into other areas of concern, the Chapter President explained, but to continue in a growth mode, making people think the Tea Party denounces Mosques scrambles the message and makes folks skittish about joining. Many national leaders believe we should never deviate from our main point.
Though he has valid points several responses come to mind. First of all, while it may not play strongly nationally, in Brooklyn people are hot under the collar over this mosque. And a large coalition already exists to stop another one being built in Brooklyn. Our ultimate local aim is to elect legitimately conservative candidates. Certain parts of Brooklyn have large pools of underrepresented and abused conservative citizens who would get active for legit candidates. And, if we wish to find legit candidates, an even stronger litmus test than whether or not they will go on record as favoring not overspending, is whether or not they will go on record opposing a mosque at ground zero and in Brooklyn. We will accrue passionate activists as well as politicians with integrity if we make stopping the mosque one of our areas of focus.
I wrote a policy paper about immigration being a Tea Party issue. Illegal immigration costs our states billions per year. Among other things, immigration is a fiscal issue. Can't immigration be a Tea Party issue? And what about foreign policy? I wrote another policy paper about the Tea Party using culturism to mediate the isolationism of Ron Paul and the expansionist view of Sarah Palin. Both claim Tea Party credibility despite their divergent stances. Culturism argues that we take cultural diversity seriously. Culturists agree with Ron Paul about avoiding nation building. But we culturists do so because cultural diversity dooms such efforts. So we agree with Palin that we must recognize our cultural enemies. Culturism argues that we strike our enemies hard, if we must, but then return home. The immigration issue and the culturist stance of avoiding nation building both seem intimately connected with the Tea Party message of smaller government and saving money. Are we not allowed to discuss such issues?
I asked the hostile Tea Party leader if he’d back an open-borders, pro-mosque, fiscal conservative. Having ample experience in politics, he gave me a great answer. He told me of a time where he had worked alongside an avowed socialist on the issue of driver’s licenses for illegal aliens. Politics make strange bedfellows. In the case of backing a candidate with whom many of us would disagree, he said we should never endorse candidates as such, we should endorse their economic policy. I told my disagreeing comrade that I thought that we would get more growth by taking a stance with Arizona than ignoring it. He disagreed. When I told him I thought we would soon need to choose to either side with Palin and her expansionist policies or Paul’s isolationist stance, he agreed. But, he added, the time for that decision had not yet come. To grow the movement to where it will have an impact we need numbers and that means we must stay on message.
I will bring this debate to the next Brooklyn Tea Party meeting. We will need to decide whether we entirely drop the mosque and immigration issues and just stick with the core theme of fiscal conservatism or not. I will add an argument my erstwhile compatriot did not add. As a new chapter, taking a brand others have crafted and bending it to your will is rude. If you, the reader, have any additional pertinent insights for me to bring to my chapter, please leave a comment and I will do so.

Congrats To The Left And The Obama Administration: It Only Took You 18 Months To Destoy The American Economy
(BBC)- US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has told the BBC that the world “cannot depend as much on the US as it did in the past”.
He said that other major economies would have to grow more for the global economy to prosper.
He also played down any differences in policy between the US and Europe regarding deficit reduction.
Mr Geithner was speaking in Washington ahead of G8 and G20 meetings this weekend in Toronto.
The Group of Eight and Group of 20 rich and developing nations are assembling on Friday for three days of talks on emerging from the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
During World War II, when France was occupied by the Nazis, Parisians found ways to resist. Today France is again undergoing a foreign occupation, and Parisians are forming strategies of resistance.
The occupation today is from Muslim immigrants, who are aggressively foisting their culture and customs onto an unwilling host. The central battle is around a working class neighborhood called "La Goutte d'Or," translated as "the drop of gold." The term was originally in reference to a white wine from ancient vineyards.
see photo), blocking traffic and commerce. Shopkeepers are unable to open their stores and conduct business. This activity is not just about praying. It is cultural aggression, an assertion of Islamic superiority over the streets and neighborhoods of France.
Many French are alarmed and believe that the "Islamization" of France is well underway. One of the ways they are fighting back is to stage large block parties in Paris on Fridays, where "salami and booze" are served and consumed. Both foods are traditional to France but forbidden and repulsive to Muslims.
Does this annoy and irritate the Muslim interlopers? Too bad. If the Muslims of Paris want to get "in your face" about their religion, the Parisians will get right back in the faces of the Muslims with the preservation of their own cuisine, culture and customs. It's a way of saying, "We French are here to stay and will not be displaced."

Petraeus to Modify Afghanistan Rules of Engagement, Source Says
A military source close to Gen. David Petraeus told Fox News that one of the first things the general will do when he takes over in Afghanistan is to modify the controversial rules of engagement to make it easier for U.S. troops to engage in combat with the enemy.
Rape in war ‘a deliberate military strategy’ argue researchersWhile the word "Islam" is missing from this article, it is implicit.
From bmj.com, via Good Shit:
Since the second world war, the use of rape as a weapon of war has assumed strategic importance, and is now a deliberate military strategy, argue researchers in an editorial published on bmj.com today.
The effects of rape and sexual violence during war also extend beyond individual victims and are economically, physically, psychologically, and culturally devastating for families and communities, say authors Coleen Kivlahan, volunteer forensic physician for HealthRight International, and Nate Ewigman from the University of Florida.
For example, in recent conflicts, rape has been used as a reward for victory in battle, a boost to troop morale, as punishment and humiliation for both men and women, to incite revenge in opposing troops, to eliminate or “cleanse” religious or political groups, and to destabilise entire communities by creating terror.
A study in the Democratic Republic of the Congo found that 16,000 rapes occurred in 2008 alone, and in South Kivu province, health centres estimate that 40 women were raped in the region daily. In the United Kingdom, 50-70% of female asylum applicants were raped, witnessed rape, or have a credible fear of rape.
Geographical, cultural, religious, political, legal, and behavioural conditions affect the likelihood of the systematic use of rape, explain the authors. For instance, geographically remote locations allow perpetrators to rape with impunity, while the likelihood that women will be raped, shamed, and isolated is increased in cultures with strong traditions regarding virginity, marital fidelity, and genital cleanliness.
Religions with strong beliefs about appropriate female clothing and behaviour also increase the risk that women will be falsely accused of adultery and raped as humiliation and punishment, they add.
The effects of rape and sexual torture on survivors are economically, physically, psychologically, and culturally devastating. They also extend to the family and community.
The international community has mounted a considerable response to the use of rape as a weapon of war, but the authors argue that rape during armed conflict is not simply about military personnel, police, or terrorists.
For example, before 2004, rape assailants in the Democratic Republic of the Congo were primarily affiliated with the military; however, after 2004, civilian rapes increased 17-fold while rapes by armed combatants decreased by 77%.
“This pattern suggests a disturbing acceptance of rape among civilians,” they conclude. “Rape is the result of the lack of dedicated societal attention to the safety, respect, and prosperity of women in peace time, as well as in war.”
GOP Rep. Doug Lamborn Leading Congressional Effort to Stop Obama Admin From Deporting Son of Hamas Founder Who Spied for Israel, Converted to Christianity
From Weasel Zippers:
(Weekly Standard)- Rep. Doug Lamborn is leading an effort in the House of Representatives to gather support for Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of a founder of Hamas who converted to Christianity, became an anti-Hamas informer, and is now living in the U.S. The Department of Homeland Security, incredibly, is opposing his application for political asylum.
Yousef, himself once a member of Hamas, is not a jihadist. In fact, he’s quite the opposite, having had both a religious and a political conversion. He’s now living in San Diego, but his stay in America could end shortly (he’s been here around three years). It all hinges on whether he’s granted political asylum by American officials. Right now, the Department of Homeland Security is against this designation, in part it seems, because the government agency has misread his remarkable tell-all memoir, Son of Hamas.
In the book, Yousef tells his story. He experienced a sort of epiphany, turning against Hamas and his family, to become a key informant for the Israeli intelligence agency the Shin Bet. The intelligence he provided allowed Israeli officials to prevent acts of terror, saving many innocent lives. The DHS interprets his book as proof that he has ties to terrorist organizations.
If Yousef were to be deported, and returned to the West Bank, there’s little question that he would end up on a Hamas hit list.
Will the DHS come to its senses? Rep. Lamborn opposes the effort to deport this hero, and has gathered a group of congressmen to support Yousef. So far, signatories from the House include, Trent Franks, Cynthia Lummis, Bill Posey, Kenny Marchant, Rob Bishop, John Kline, and John Shadegg.
Muslim Leader: Islam Is Not A Religion Of Peace, It Is A Religion of Submission
Is Europe Awakening to Islamist Threat?
The political situation in Europe today is quite different from the stereotype of a continent hostile to the United States (even if Obama is personally popular) and Israel, appeasement-oriented toward Iran and revolutionary Islamism, and eagerly multicultural and politically correct.
True, it is more oriented in that direction than North America, but there is a real struggle afoot.
In many countries — notably the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, and to a slightly lesser extent the United Kingdom and France — the partisan gap between the left and center-right marks a boundary of much greater significance than a decade or two ago. Although each situation is different, the parties of the left tend to be more anti-American and anti-Israel and less alert to the threat of revolutionary Islamism, as well as favor continued large-scale immigration and big-state, big-spending policies.
Take the Netherlands as a case study. After elections last month, the parties of the center-right hold 83 seats, while those of the left have 67. Since there are ten parties in parliament, talks to form a coalition government will last for weeks, especially since the two largest have only twenty percent each. In the elections, only three seats changed hands between blocs.
But the big news was the shift within the center-right — the rise of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (PVV) led by the controversial Geert Wilders, which almost tripled its presence from 9 to 24 seats. To his enemies, almost no epithet is too extreme to throw at Wilders. The flamboyant Wilders has been outspoken in opposing immigration, especially that of Muslims, making a sharp critique of political Islamism and sometimes Islam itself.
The power of the Dutch state was turned on Wilders, who is currently on trial for making statements which in America would fall well within constitutional protection. State television ran documentaries during the election designed to paint him as a virtual Nazi.
What is Wilders’ program? First, a sharp limitation on asylum seekers admitted into the country, and none from Muslim-majority states. No dual nationality, no new mosques, no separate Islamic schools, no wearing of burqas, and no government subsidies for Islamic media. Mosques where violence is propagated will be closed. Heavy punishment for female circumcision. For their first ten years in Holland, immigrants receive no social benefits or citizenship. At the end of that period, those with no criminal record will receive full citizenship.
The rise in support for Wilders’ party is in large part a response to serious concern over the domestic situation in the country. Aside from the assassination of a filmmaker by a radical Islamist, there has been a steep increase in crime and social welfare spending. Amsterdam, not long ago the most gay-friendly city in the world, is a place where homosexuals might be attacked in the streets by Muslim immigrant youth. A recent television program followed three Jews wearing identifiable garb as they strolled around the city, being harassed and insulted.
Twenty percent of Dutch teachers report that attempts to teach about the Holocaust, in the country of Anne Frank, were rejected or disrupted by immigrant children.
While Muslims still comprise only a bit more than 5 percent of the population, whole areas of Dutch cities have a majority of people who are recent immigrants and whose commitment to assimilation into the country’s continued norms is questionable. For example, it is frequently estimated that up to half the country’s Muslim population is sympathetic to the September 11 attacks.

HMMM: GAZA FLOTILLA PROVOCATIONS SUSPENDEDFrom the Astute Bloggers:
IT SEEMS THINGS HAVE CALMED DOWN:
One of the organizers of an Iranian aid flotilla that was to said to Gaza in efforts to break Israel's naval blockade on the territory, announced Thursday that the event has been cancelled due to "Israeli threats."INN:
Army Radio reported that a separate Iranian ship, carrying 60 Iranian activists, was being prepared to sail to Gaza via the Caspian Sea. This after the Lebanese media reported several days ago that Egypt has denied Israel's request to prevent Iranian ships from passing through the Suez Canal toward Egypt.
Meanwhile Thursday, the U.S. State Department issued a statement calling the aid flotillas to Gaza irresponsible.
"Mechanisms exist for the transfer of humanitarian assistance to Gaza by member states and groups that want to do so," the U.S. State Department said regarding Lebanese plans to ship aid to Gaza. "Direct delivery by sea is neither appropriate nor responsible, and certainly not effective, under the circumstances."
After years in which Israel has limited entrance to Gaza in order to isolate Hamas, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman invited his European Union counterparts to visit the region. Lieberman was quoted Thursday by Channel 2 news.(KADIMA CRITICIZED THE MOVE ON THE BASIS THAT IT LEGITIMIZES HAMAS.
The invitation was reportedly extended during a meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini.
Lieberman told Frattini that he could lead a delegation to Gaza and visit all parts of the region. Delegates may meet with whomever they wish, the foreign minister reportedly said.
He also suggested that the EU invest in improving Gaza's infrastructure.
Previously, Israel has allowed United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton to visit Gaza. Egypt has largely sealed its border to visitors as well, although it recently allowed a handful of aid delegates to enter Gaza via the Rafiah crossing.
THIS IS RUBBISH: IT WILL HAVE THE OPPOSITE EFFECT.)
THE COMBINATION OF RESOLUTE ISRAELI POSITION ON THE FLOTILLAS, AND (FINALLY!!!) A CLEAR STATEMENT FROM THE US STATE DEPARTMENT AND THE INVITATION FROM FM LIEBERMAN HAS DEFUSED THE DELIBERATELY FOMENTED ANTI-ISRAEL CRISIS.
IF OBAMA AND HILARY HAD BEEN THIS CLEAR FROM THE START, THEN THIS WHOLE CRISIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
OBAMA AND HILARY SHOULD HAVE WARNED-OFF ERDOGAN BEFORE HE SENT THE IHH IN ON THE MARMARA.
BUT OBAMA AND HILLARY ARE INCOMPETENTS.
DID ISRAEL THREATEN IRAN WITH AN IMMEDIATE ATTACK IF THEY WENT THROUGH WITH THE FLOTILLA?
AFTER ALL, IRAN LIKES SERIOUS CONFLICT BETWEEN HAMAS AND HIZBALLAH AND ISRAEL TO DISTRACT THE WEST FROM THEIR NUKE PROGRAM.
SO WHY ELSE WOULD THEY COOL IT SO PRECIPITOUSLY!?
IRAN NEWS AGENCIES REPORTED THE IDF WAS IN SAUDI ARABIA.
WERE THEY SETTING UP ANTI-MISSILE SHIELDS - TO PROTECT SAUDI ARABIA AND THEIR OIL FIELDS FROM A CONVENTIONAL RETALIATORY ATTACK FROM IRAN AFTER AN IDF PREEMPTIVE ATTACK?
I THINK THESE SPECULATIVE SCENARIOS EXPLAIN EVERYTHING WE KNOW.
I DON'T ANYTHING ELSE DOES.
Kesha Rogers: A Black Democrat Who Doesn't Fit The Obama Narrative
Read about Kesha Rogers HERE. Note the following:
[J]oin with the majority of the population, which stands in opposition to the present course taken by the President, and reaffirm our Democratic Party tradition; or continue the course imposed by the British Empire, and embraced by the present administration, which bails out speculators, rewards corrupt bankers, insurance companies, and BP, but turns its back on the tens of millions of Americans in despair, due to the breakdown of the economy and our financial system. And this:
The urgency of forcing Barack Obama’s early resignationThere is much to disagree with Kesha Rogers on, of course. Still, it is interesting to note her lack of support for Obama.

The unasked question around McChrystal
McCartney, in Interview, Compares Global Warming Skeptics to Holocaust Deniers
Sir Paul McCartney just can't let it be.
The former Beatle predicted in an interview that the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico might expedite a move to cleaner, renewable energy sources in the world.
Sir Paul could have stopped while he was ahead, but McCartney went on to compare people who don't believe in global warming to "those who don't believe there was a Holocaust."
"Sadly we need disasters like this to show people," McCartney said in an exclusive interview with The Sun. "Some people don't believe in climate warning -- like those who don't believe there was a Holocaust."
McCartney continued, "But the facts indicate that there's something going on and we've got to be aware of it if we want our kids to inherit a decent world, not a complete nightmare of a planet -- clean, renewable energy is for starters."
McCartney also defended President Obama's handling of the two-month-old crisis.
"I don't accept the criticism of Barack over the oil spill," said McCartney, who met the president for the first time earlier this month.
"I think he's been great. It's tough if we Brits whinge that he's whingeing at us. Tough, then don't spill oil."
A representative for McCartney in London said the singer would have no further comment.
Chris Horner, a senior fellow at Competitive Enterprise Institute and author of two books on environmental policy, blasted McCartney's comments.
"Was Posh Spice unavailable? I've seen quite a few reasons to look elsewhere than actors and crooners for deep thoughts on weighty policy matters," Horner wrote in an e-mail to FoxNews.com. "And this is certainly one of them."
Horner's message continued: "They've got computer model projections, Leonardo [DiCaprio] and the Cute Beatle. In the other corner are observations proving the models wrong, ClimateGate, NASA-Gate and the host of IPCC-Gates.
"I'm comfortable with the balance of authorities here."

Elton John: No one could have stopped me from coming
DEARBORNISTAN SHARI'AFrom the Astute Bloggers:
Anyone who thinks this couldn't happen, in Michigan or elsewhere in the United States, must take a look at the following news from Michigan Live and from Power Line (via Hot Air):
Police in the heavily Arab Detroit suburb of Dearborn say they arrested four Christian missionaries for disorderly conduct at an Arab cultural festival. Here's also a video of the arrest, and note how the police demand of one of the bunch not film the arrest:
Police Chief Ron Haddad says his department made the arrests Friday. The four are free on bond.
As the name of the chief of Henry Ford's burg suggests, he too could be a Muslim, making Dearbornistan one of the first places where Islamisation of the police could be a serious problem, just like in Britain. And their confiscation of cameras to keep this off record shows this is a lot worse than it looks.
The Detroit News says:
The Thomas More Law Center, an Ann Arbor-based Christian legal defense organization, has agreed to represent four evangelists who were arrested on charges of disturbing the peace Friday night at the Arab International Festival. When this comes to court, the evangelists must ask for a lot of damage repairs.
Dearborn police officers violated their free speech rights when their video cameras, which were used to record conversations with festival-goers, were confiscated, said lead attorney Robert Muise…
Muise faxed a letter Monday to Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad requesting the return of his clients’ cameras and tapes.
The Police Department has not responded to Muise’s request.
Not a victory yet at UC Irvine
Responding to the recent suspension of the MSU, Ted Bleiweis, executive director of the group, was more cautious than many in the UCI community who have commended the suspension recommendation. “The evidence presented in the May 27, 2010, letter from UC Irvine to MSU officials appears to demonstrate an organized and deliberate attempt by the MSU to stifle Ambassador Oren’s First Amendment right to free speech and the audience’s right to hear what he had to say,” said Bleiweis. “It remains to be seen if the administration will actually follow through on its recommended action. In addition, keep in mind that until the appeals process has been completed, it is premature to draw any conclusions about the outcome.”That's right. A recommended way to ensure they'll carry through with the ruling is for all concerned to continue writing to the staff and call on them to stand strong on the decision.
(Associated Press) — MANILA, Philippines – About 30 hooded attackers, believed to be Abu Sayyaf militants, shot and hacked horrified victims running for their lives in the southern Philippines, police said Thursday. Four died and six were wounded in the brazen attack.
The al-Qaida-linked militants apparently were trying to divert government troops from a weekslong offensive in a nearby town, said Antonio Mendoza, police chief for the island province of Basilan.
Most of the victims were commuters in a passenger jeep going home from Basilan’s capital of Isabela City. The attackers were positioned on a hill and opened fire with rifles. Two passengers died instantly and others jumped from the jeep to flee, Mendoza said.
“They were fired upon as they ran. One of the attackers hacked a 10-year-old boy, who survived,” Mendoza told The Associated Press.
“We found the bodies and survivors scattered outside the jeep. It’s sad, these outlaws don’t have any regard for life.
Venezuela to nationalize U.S. firm’s oil rigs
Venezuela will nationalize a fleet of oil rigs belonging to U.S. company Helmerich and Payne, the latest takeover in a push to socialism as President Hugo Chavez struggles with lower oil output and a recession.
A former soldier inspired by Cuba’s Fidel Castro, Chavez has made energy nationalization the linchpin in his ‘revolution’. He has also taken over assets in telecommunications, power, steel and banking.
The 11 drilling rigs have been idled for months following a dispute over pending payments by the OPEC member’s state oil company PDVSA. Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez said on Wednesday the rigs, the Oklahoma-based company’s entire Venezuelan fleet, were being nationalized to bring them back into production.
Ramirez said companies that refused to put their rigs into production were part of a plan to weaken Chavez’s government,
“There is a group of drill owners that has refused to discuss tariffs and services with PDVSA and have preferred to keep this equipment stored for a year,” Ramirez told reporters in the oil producing state of Zulia. “That is the specific case with U.S. multinational Helmerich and Payne."
48% See Government Today As A Threat to Individual Rights
Nearly half of American Adults see the government today as a threat to individual rights rather than a protector of those rights.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Adults see the government today as a threat to rights. Thirty-seven percent (37%) hold the opposite view. Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided.
Most Republicans (74%) and unaffiliateds (51%) consider the government to be a threat to individual rights. Most Democrats (64%) regard the government as a protector of rights.
Additionally, most Americans (52%) say it is more important for the government to protect individual rights than to promote economic growth. Just 31% say promoting economic growth is more important. But again a sizable number (17%) of Adults aren't sure which is more important.
The real leaders just lead, and seek the reward solely in THAT
The doctor had his TV on in his office when the news of the military base shootings at Ft. Hood, TX came on. The husband of one of his employees was stationed there. He called her into his office and as he told her what had happened, she got a text message from her husband saying, "I am okay." Her cell phone rang right after she read the message. It was an ER nurse," I'm the one who just sent you a text, not your husband. I thought it would be comforting but I was mistaken in doing so. I am sorry to tell you this, but your husband has been shot 4 times and he is in surgery."The soldier's wife left Southern Clinic in Dothan, AL and drove all night to Ft. Hood. When she arrived, she found out her husband was out of surgery and would be OK. She rushed to his room and found that he already had visitors there to comfort him. He was just waking up and found his wife and the visitors by his side. The nurse took this picture. What? No news crews and cameras? This is how people with class respond and pay respect to those in uniform. I sent my cousin in Fayetteville, N.C. (Retired from Special Forces) that picture of Geo. W. visiting the wounded at Ft. Hood. I got this reply:What is even better is the fact George W. Bush heard about Fort Hood, got in his car without any escort, apparently they did not have time to react, and drove to Fort Hood. He was stopped at the gate and the guard could not believe who he had just stopped. Bush only asks for directions to the hospital then drove on. The gate guard called that "The President is on Fort Hood and driving to the hospital."The base went bananas looking for Obama. When they found it was Bush, they immediately offered escort. Bush simply told them to shut up and let him visit the wounded and the dependents of the dead. He stayed at Fort Hood for over six hours, and was finally asked to leave by a message from the White House.Obama flew in days later and held a "photo" session in a gym, and did not even go to the hospital. All this I picked up from two soldiers here who happened to be at Fort Hood when it happened. This Bush/Obama/Ft.Hood story is something that should be sent to every voter in the US. Those who wanted "change" certainly got it.
