Samantha Powers: Obama's Speeches Inspired The Middle East Uprisings

I think Samantha Powers is right about this.

The question is, will the unfolding of history reveal that these uprisings lead to the demolition of thug regimes, and the breakout of Freedom for millions of human beings. Or will these uprisings lead to more Sharia-state "Democracies" which will elect a new generation of thugs?

What do you think?

From the Washington Times:

White House aide Samantha Power, a former news reporter turned anti-genocide advocate, said President Obama’s two-year campaign to promote human rights helped trigger the uprising in Libya against Col. Moammar Gadhafi’s rule.

In a speech Monday at Columbia University, Ms. Power, director of multilateral affairs at the National Security Council, defended her support for the military operation against Libyan government forces and said the president’s efforts, through speeches in various foreign capitals, made it easier for other nations to stand with the United States against tyrants.

“The president has argued our interests and our values cannot be separated,” Ms. Power said, speaking to a friendly crowd of about 130 people. “These values have caused the people of Libya to risk their lives on the street.”

Ms. Power sidestepped questions about reports she was among three female Obama administration aides who pressed the president to go to war in Libya.

On the military operation to impose a no-fly zone, however, Ms. Power, said that “force can be justified on humanitarian grounds.”

Ms. Power said the international coalition acted to save the rebel-stronghold city of Benghazi because of Col. Gadhafi’s attacks. “On a single day, he killed 1,200 people on suspicion” of being anti-government rebels, she said.

“To put Libyan events in historical perspective,” she said, “in Libya, it took us nine days impose asset freezes and travel bans,” while pressuring regimes in the Balkans and other places took years.

We split on this one.

Obama has match next to an inferno, and he think the wind is blowing the other way.

He's a guy with a new fridge that makes ice cubes next to a glacier moving towards him while he worries of global warming.

The presence of TV on cell phones everywhere is the motive tool which displays brutality in every american's home... and THAT gave motive force to this flame.

But the flame is not Jeffersonian, and it's democracy shares no more of a modern democracy's values than can be captured in a lynch mob which has memorized just one phrase.

It could never be stopped. It HAD to be started, Al Jazeera had far more to do with it than anything else, and it will be the beginning of the unraveling of ANY HOPE that progress in time means peace.

Let me be clear, I do not think Obama is the primary motivating force behind what is going on. I think there are many forces at work, and technology is a big one.

But, Obama is responsible in part, and he will be given credit.

He certainly is not doing anything to discourage this stuff.

We are in a very dangerous place right now. And, if the Arab world comes through this more free than before, then Obama will be hailed as next to Reagan.

That being said, I do not expect that to happen.

The "Arab Spring" smells like a pile of camel shit to me.
