It's 10 years on and no REAL OBJECTIVE end in sight.
Suppose we had simply erased, Kandahar, Jalalabad, Kabul, Tora Bora etc, hours after Mullah Omar refused to turn Bin Laden over. Suppose 30-50 targets had been wacked by 100 kilotons each.
Certainly American casualties would have been nearly or completely non existent.
We may had avoided invading Iraq, for the lessons to the world would have been salutary.
Many would have condemned us, but in the end would less people be dead, and a more final reckoning in our favor be realized?

Nice or not, it ended WWII. A lot of world military, American and Japanese citizens lived a long life afterwards.
The type of "nice" war we are waging, has and never will work.
In a bi-polar world where it is ONLY the West vs Islam, I'd have to agree. Blammo. However, your observation that - "many would have condemned us" might quickly have morphed into "many will band together to attack us" thus resulting in catastrophic escalation and a potential WW3.
As it stands WW3 looks to be shaping up as a more focused and rational IWW.
You're probably right, Obama, America has not, and may never be at war ..., at least in the sense you're saying it (i.e) as an isolated element. But dar al Harb will surely begin to get its collective act together one day soon. And America will be a large part of that.
The really sad thing is, we may go another 10 years like this, with more death, destruction and damage to our economy, and THEN, we will come to this conclusion.

I would add Mecca and Medina to the list, just to be on the safe side and cover all bases.
They want to live in the 7th century be my guest. I'd love to see the rest of the world combine to send them there. Lower their rabbit-like birth rate, too, as well as get rid of a lot of fleas, ticks, & a slew of four-legged vermin to keep the two-legged vermin company.
