Herman Cain rises, Rick Perry slides in new CBS News poll
The Obama News Associates Network (ONAN) says Cain has moved into a tie with Romney. while Perry is, apparently, fading out of the picture.
From CBS:
Herman Cain has moved into a tie with Mitt Romney atop the field of Republican presidential candidates, according to a new CBS News poll, while Rick Perry has fallen 11 percentage points in just two weeks.
The poll shows Cain, who stood at just five percent support two weeks ago, now holding 17 percent support among Republican primary voters. That puts the former Godfather's Pizza CEO into a tie with Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, whose support has essentially held steady over the past two weeks.
Perry, meanwhile, has dropped from 23 percent support to just 12 percent support over the past two weeks, a sign that the Texas governor's shaky debate performances - in which he has alienated portions of both the Republican base and the party establishment - have taken their toll.
Eight in ten Republican primary voters said the candidates' debate performances are at least somewhat important to them, and 58 percent said they have watched the debates that have already taken place. Just ten percent of Republican primary voters said they agreed with Perry that the children of illegal immigrants should be allowed to get in-state tuition, a contentious topic in recent debates.
The silver lining for Perry is the race remains fluid: Three in four Republican primary voters who chose a candidate also said it was too early to make up their minds completely. Just 19 percent said they had definitively decided who they would support.
Rounding out the field are Newt Gingrich with eight percent support, Ron Paul with seven percent, Michele Bachmann with four percent, Rick Santorum with three percent and Jon Huntsman with two percent. Eighteen percent said they were undecided or unsure.

Looks like my choice Romney is now favored to be the nominee, with Christie deciding not to run. If nominated, Romney will likely pick a more conservative running mate who comes from humble (un-rich) background for balance.
Why is it you like Romney? Is it merely because you think he can win?
Or, do you like his politics?
This poll shows Romney leading with 25% and Perry and Cain tied for second with 16% each.
1) Polls also show that Romney has a better chance of beating Obama than any other Republican. Not only that but he can take the fight to the Democratic heartland in the Northeastern and Great Lakes states, unlike Perry for example.
2) Romney is not bad on border security and illegal immigration, unlike Bush, McCain, Perry, Gingrich, Santorum, Chris Christie, Ron Paul and virtually the entire Republican establishment and their corporate string pullers, aka the Treason Lobby.
Pastorius,
Yes Romney looks like he can win--that's important. He has performed well in the debates, which will be critical when he goes up against Obama. I like all the other the other Republicans candidates in various ways, except Ron Paul who I would not vote for.
Also I find I agree with Romney on most issues and he really does appear to have more expertise on economic matters.
Re electability, remember Obama (with his bad poll numbers) will likely switch VP from Biden to Hillary, Andrew Cuomo, Evan Bayh-- which will help him, or he may even decide not to seek re-election--in which case the Republicans may find themselves up against one of those three more popular individuals. A further reason we will need our most electable prospect--Romney--at the top of the ticket.
I do not dislike Romney. I just don't think he is as marketable a candidate as Cain or Perry.
But, Obama is getting destroyed in the news of late.
It is very strange that the Obama News Associates Network is putting out this poll. Makes me not want to trust the numbers.
But, of course, that is paranoid.
I have a feeling, and I hope I am wrong, Obama will be making a big comeback next summer.
There are always 2 issues for folks like us
1) Do the candidates match our views
2) Are the electable
I can take or leave Perry on 1, but he's probably ok on 2
I am a LITTLE more comfortable with Romney because while he matches SOME of my views a bit better, he will measure practicalities and NOT go over the cliff with ideology.
I am MOST comfortable with Cain's domestic views, but have a very strong wariness of his abilities and DESIRE to gain knowledge in and become expert at the dangers outside our borders. BUT HE IS A SMART GUY. As Obama chokes, Cain's electability will increase. Right now, TODAY, I believe he is unelectable. Tomorrow?????
I don't think it's going to matter all that much who the candidate is. Barring some kind of idiot (Ron Paul) running, this election is all about the Man-Child himself.
He has divided the nation like no one since Abe Lincoln.
It gets more of a love-em or hate-em every day.
We'll probably see the largest vote totals in history.
cjk,
What chance do you think there is that Ron Paul will not run?
If Paul runs as an independent and causes Obama to be re-elected it is a demonstration of one man's EGO potentially proving humans cannot govern themselves.
I see it as that simple
I meant if Paul or someone like him wins the primary (extremely doubtful).
Anyway, I think Paul just lost alot of support with his latest assassination charges, and may even have won over some of Obama's looney, leftist base with that one.
All things considered AT THIS POINT I still think Obama loses even with Paul running independent.
However, I really couldn't agree more with Epa's last comment.
Good point, cjk. You're right. Paul would have won Obama's base with his idiocy.
Thanks for making my day better.
Lol! From right to left: Yosemite Sam, Clayton Bigsby, and the Mitt Mormon Multi-Millionaire...
P.S. Mitt "the Mormon Millionaire" Romney will be the nominee.
1. He has the money.
2. He is the only one with a chance in the general. [Perry wants to be president of the United States, but he doesn't even much care for the United part of the concept. Cain is just a token. LOL! Republicans think, "hey, let's get a black guy to win us the African-American vote..." but African-Americans will still vote overwhelmingly for Obama. Most of the others are just "special interest candidates" (in this case for the Jesus freak contingency). And Republicans would almost unanimously vote for Joseph Dzhugashvili if the only alternate option is Ron Paul.]
3. He has experience. The only one who could match that is Perry (Governor of Texas, but maybe he can be PRESIDENT of Texas after they secede...) and Huntsman (Romney Jr.). Sorry, being a pizza dude, or a Congressperson from Batshit, MN just does not prepare you for the presidency.
Pray explain how I am a "dumbass racist, bigoted fuckhead." Do you have any reasons, or is name-calling the maximal limit to your intellectual capability?
...That's what I thought.
If you are referring to my comments RE: Herman Cain, then please allow me to explain seeing as you have an obvious learning disability. Barack Obama: intelligent Black liberal. Who would be a good counter? How about an intelligent Black conservative? Probably someone like Walter E. Williams or maybe even Thomas Sowell. Either of them (or both) can run on their individual merits, with the fact that they just so happen to be African-American as a nice little bonus, but by no means the entirety of their campaign. But neither of those two guys ever seem to run for public office. I wonder why. How about Colin Powell? (Unfortunately the Teatards would never go for him.)
Sorry, I call things as they are. Has Herman Cain ever in his entire life been elected to a public office in these United States? Then why is he even considered a viable candidate? (Particularly against an incumbent president.) His only claim to fame is a pizza chain I never even heard of.
Why are you so eager to play the racist card? Are you perhaps projecting? Maybe I hate Perry because he's a White man... Since you're so keen on name calling can I venture a guess about you? Your politically correct baggage is just some vestige from your far-left ideological history. I see you're from SoCal. Probably a fairly typical SoCal liberal, one who dabbled in Marxism during his college-age hippy phase. Then you jumped on the Jesus wagon and shifted your ideology. Then 9/11 happened and you were scared shitless and started watching Fox News. Over time you dropped the socialism (exchanged for neo-liberal economics), the libertinism (exchanged for "born-again purity"), and the pacifism (exchanged for neoconservative chickenhawk saber-rattling), but retained the PC hyper-sensitivity on remaining issues. Sounds about right...
Why thank you for your explanatory clarity, but I see you are intellectually incapable of explaining your statements without calling me a "jerk" and telling me to "fuck off."
* Herman Cain is intelligent? He may not be an idiot, but nor is he some grand intellectual. On this we will just have to agree to disagree. He is just an average ordinary guy with an obscure pizza chain. The fact that he is African-American is irrelevant. The relevant question is why he is or isn't qualified to be president. Sorry, running a pizza chain is in no way equivalent to running a country like the USA.
* FYI, Mormon is not a race.
* So even mentioning the fact that someone is Black or Mormon, even without saying anything bad about merely being either of the aforementioned, is racism/bigotry now? Wow, you really are on some politically correct high horse. We can't even say that someone is Black/Mormon... How about you point out what I explicitly stated that to the effect that there is something bad/wrong about being African-American or Mormon? You can't because I said no such thing, but feel free to make cowardly insinuations.
[For the record, far from slamming Mitt Romney for his Mormonism, I concede that he is BY FAR the best candidate the GOP field has any hope in offering. You think referring to Herman Cain as a "Clayton Bigsby" or "token" is racist, under the assumption that any African-American Republican would be a "token," but the fact that I refer approvingly to two or three African-American Republicans without such derogatory terms refutes your assumption.]
* You seem awfully certain that I am not African-American or of partial African ancestry. At least that is how I understand the "anyone who is not like yourself" comment. You not only presume that I am a "racist" but you presume yourself to be some sort of psychic.
Got any more clever jabs?
Wait, Anonymous, this is you, isn't it?

Well thanks for proving my point. Apparently we can't even REFERENCE a person's racial, ethnic, national, religious, or sexual identity (nevermind the context!) without being a racist/sexist/homophobe bigot? Wow you really are a loony leftist. (On a some issues. On others, you are a loony right-wing-nut. What goes on in your brain? You must have done LOTS of drugs.)
But in all seriousness, let me reiterate. I referred to Mitt "the Mormon Multi-Millionaire" Romney. Did I actually say anything bad about Mormonism or Mormons specifically? Remind me where I said "Mormonism is a stupid religion" or something to that effect. You can't. I mostly found the nickname amusing because I am partial towards aliteration. Was the joke offensive? Maybe. Distasteful? Sure. Was it meant to be "racist" at all? I assure you not, but someone as hyper-sensitive as yourself may beg to differ. That attitude is very common among the Politically Correct left, who can't take a joke.
As for Herman Cain, I think he is completely unqualified for presidency in terms of experience alone. He just so happens to be an unqualified Black man, but if he were White? He would be an unqualified White man! Race has NOTHING to do with it. Are you sure you're not the racially biased one who wants to give him special treatment?
Btw, I am NOT the only one who thinks that Cain is for lack of a better word, an "Affirmative Action candidate." Also... For all I know, you only support him so much because it makes YOU feel better.
But I realize what a bunch of hypocrites you and the rest of IBA are. If we were discussing an Arab/Muslim candidate then I am sure you wouldn't call someone a "bigot" or "racist" for bringing up their identity. I might sink to the low of calling you a hypocritical sack of shit, but I fear that is needlessly insulting... to sacks and fecal matter.
As for the comparison with the protestor, I do not take it as much of an insult coming from you. He may be a paranoid, anti-Semitic maniac, but he at least has the balls to even make an ass of himself in public. He does not sit on his fat ass in front of a computer and hide behind his blog. But I'm sure you're doing a heroic job combating the Jihad by blogging about every instance a Muslim so much as farts on a crowded elevator.
So, why are you here anyway?
