The Euros are so much more sophisticated than we are

Reuters (European news agency, right?) headlines the story this way …

EU governments agree in principle on Iranian oil ban

ahem ..however….
European Union governments have reached a preliminary agreement to ban imports of Iranian crude to the EU but have yet to decide when such an embargo would be put in place, EU diplomats said on Wednesday.
Any bets on Feb 29, 2013?

What do you expect Epa if Turkey is shouting from the rooftops that they will ask for a 'waiver' from buddy Obama?
Meanwhile the law allows the US to exempt institutions "in a country that has significantly reduced its dealings with Iran". Obama may also grant waivers deemed to be in the US national interest or otherwise necessary for energy market stability.

The reality of Turkey is :

NATO member Turkey has deepened economic and financial ties with Iran in recent years, despite Western efforts to isolate Tehran under sanctions.Turkey bought 217,000 barrels of oil per day from Iran in mid-2011, or 30.6 percent of its imports.

So much for sanctions that benefit sorry bite .

Don't get me wrong....
The only truly effective sanctions I know of took place 1940-1941 and it forced Japan to choose, as they put it inside govt councils, to 'lick liver and eat bile' or go to war.

We know what happened.

Sanctions are a govt's way of imagining they are doing something. Like a business meeting called because something has to be done, but everyone at the meeting knows whatever comes out of it, will never be implemented, IF anything comes out of it.

This is a crude world.

The best tool to change it so far, is blunt force trauma.

This is my disgusting observation.

We either take out the mullahs themselves (or better, help the Iranians to do it), or we ARE going to have a regional nuclear arms race among 4-5 nations before it is done, a regional all out war involving all forms of WMD, killing perhaps millions, including people out the theatre, OR BOTH

That's it.

The forces grinding away are large and the meteor about to hit the planet is close. The effort to avert the hit is minuscule or absent
