Yes, Mr. President, they are unelected

The Supreme Court Justices are as unelected today as they were in 1954 when they overturned precedent and the sense of the nation and insisted on integration in school.
But if they go against you, you just have to resort to that knee jerk dislike of the founding document.
It’s clear you don’t like the Constitution. You don’t care for the founding principles. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it is because slaves were property and that was accepted at the time within that document. Perhaps because the free enterprise which lies beneath that document made that possible. But the results of enterprise, you clearly feel should be shared, no that’s wrong - MUST be shared.
US President Barack Obama on Monday challenged the “unelected” Supreme Court not to take the “extraordinary” and “unprecedented” step of overturning his landmark health reform law.
Though Obama said he was confident the court would uphold the law, the centerpiece of his political legacy, he appeared to be previewing campaign trail arguments should the nine justices strike the legislation down.
In a highly combative salvo, Obama also staunchly defended the anchor of the law — a requirement that all Americans buyhealth insurance — as key to giving millions of people access to treatment for the first time.
“Ultimately, I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress,” Obama said.
PS the law was passed by SEVEN VOTES, 219-212 with 34 democrats joining every single republican. A vote recently taken in the Senate to REPEAL Obamacare failed by ONLY 4 votes.
And by the way, judicial activism is a description of what happens when the court does what the Constitution clearly does not intend to conform with what is popular, and chic in popular, political or legal thought. And think Mr, President, you know this in the same way you know the lie over ‘strong majority’ was a lie. I hadn’t thought you were such a liar. I hadn’t thought you really disliked the Constitution so. It’s truly amazed me.
There can be no doubt that the framers of the Constitution would be appalled that YOU PERSONALLY, and your entire faction have arrogated to yourselves the POWER to dictate what citizens buy, because YOU believe that is the best way to create the society YOU want.
You may have such an opinion that we may all discuss. But neither you nor the govt have that right.
But why would you even have taken this path instead of insisting all 1300 health care insurance companies be able to do business in every state? After all, if competition among all these companies cannot lower premiums to affordability, and the 90% or so insured cannot be raised adequately, you then have all the argument you need to go to what you really want. Totally socialized, singly payer medicine.

Has a President ever made a comment like this about a pending decision from the Supreme Court?

Maybe I'm wrong, but when I watched the video, what Obama said sounded like a veiled threat directed at SCOTUS.

I'll have to look it up, but I bet when SCOTUS killed price controls (Schecter Bros) in the depression, FDR reacted by trying to get 13 justices on the court instead of 9 and packing the court with his boyz after his landslide in 36. I have feeling that right in that era the rhetoric must have been pretty heated. I also have to wonder what Lincoln had to say..Roger Taney was a major dick.
But, that doesn't make it the right (or smart) move. And, Obamacare is not the Civil War..though it may be laying the basis for an eventual 2nd one. Worst of all though is the emergence of the president under pressure, when things are not going his way, as a COMPLETE LIAR, and demagogue

Epa,
I've linked to your post over at my site.

You are correct that FDR packed the Supreme Court to get his agenda through. I see that as an end run around our Constitution.

Obama is showing us that if things don't go his way, he will violate the Constitution. I find it difficult to believe that he is not KNOWINGLY doing so.

He has already done so by sitting in the Oval Office, knowing he doesn't meet the citizenship qualifications. Everybody is too chicken to do anything about it, as there would be riots in 'da 'hoods'. Tell the truth & shame the devil.
