Suppose they can prove 3 terrorist attacks were prevented becuase the NSA/FBI/CIA/IRS/HSD got a ping that lead to something.

We have SEEN political beliefs used as the basis for repression, and suppression of free speech IN THIS NATION this year. Whether or not this is new ground certainly at the very least we can say a precedent has been set. Each transgression becomes easier.

If the IRS cannot BELIEVE that some 501c application is up to their political criteria, and they have no proof of lies by the applicant (even though they have already probed his or her beliefs, religion, alliances, friends and anus) is there anyone who thinks that a REGULATION would stop a zealous agent from ATTEMPTING to get the cell phone tower information of the applicant to compare to say known Tea Party ‘extremists’ (in their view)? Or turn that and and one day have some self righteous right wing zealot do the same thing to see if the applicant is consorting with the #occupy left edge of the Center for American Progress?

People who both believe they are right, and blessed with the proper thought, and who have the power to act on it for a while have a very different frame of reference. These people are the political class. Left and right do not matter.

It is my judgment that NO govt of a free people, can EVER be allowed to gather this kind of information, and the degree to which they both defend this effort, and attempt to keep it secret defines how urgently it must be stopped and the information destroyed IF POSSIBLE.
