CALGARY — The Somali community in Calgary is reeling upon hearing the news that a former city cab driver has been accused of beheading his four children. 

“That’s unheard of,” said Mohamed Jama, president of the Somali Canadian Society of Calgary. 

“The community is very shocked, very shocked,” he said. 

“I don’t know whether the guy is insane and we don’t know what’s behind the story.” 

A Mogadishu-based journalist for All Voices, an online news website, reports that Omar Shire Hussein, 60, beheaded his four children. 

While some reports suggest the accused killer was from Calgary, another member of Calgary’s Somali community said he had lived in Fort McMurray. 

The kids, ranging in age between 11 and 6, were reportedly killed just outside the city of Beledweyne, in the Hiirran province in central Somalia. 

The reason for beheading the kids is not known and it’s unclear whether Hassan was mentally unstable.

Killing your children for reasons of honour or if they are not with the Islamic program is 100% allowed in sharia, according to Reliance of the Traveller in the section on killing without retribution.

Actually, in this case, the guy didn't follow Islam correctly. Any child below the age of 10 can not be killed if he or she isn't following Islam correctly since the parents are responsible for their actions.  

Even when the child is 10+, there is a long series of beatings before you can kill your child. 

This guy overdid it, in my opinion since even in Mohammed's court his actions wouldn't win praise (since he killed Muslim children). 

With that said though, what he did IS in the spirit of Islam since love between parents and children is held by perceived loyalty to Islam.
