If You Support Freedom and Gays – You’ll Join A&E Boycott

I pretty much agree with everything Andrew Marcus says here.
Posted by Andrew Marcus:
Unless you’ve been consumed by reading the fine print on Obamacare, you’re already well aware of the Duck Dynasty controversy surrounding comments their patriarch made about homosexuals and black people.
First the homosexuals:
“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
Now regarding blacks:
I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field…. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.
It’s not hard to understand why people would be offended by these two statements. Many people from across the political spectrum, myself included, do not believe homosexuality is a sin. And most people accept that the segregated south was a horrible place for blacks to exist, even if they appeared happy with their sub-human status.
That being said, I’m joining the #BoycottA&E movement. Why would I do such a thing after expressing my disagreement with the quoted comments? The answer two-fold.
First is because the people running A&E are a bunch of cowards. Here they had a priceless opportunity to engage in what would’ve been a very honest and more importantly a compelling clash of ideas on one of todays top TV shows. Imagine if they had confronted this on air, on the show. Nobody would’ve been able to take their eyes off of it.
Unfortunately A&E and American popular culture’s response to anything counter to the popular narrative is to silence the source of the undesired speech. I for one am sick of living in such a cowardly nation of people so afraid of words. I’m offended as an American patriot and as a content producer!
Second, the #BoycottA&E movement actually signifies something larger. It represents the latest in a series of signs of terminal decay in left’s outrage machine. Prior there was the Chick-Fil-A buycott and then the recent #EatFast buycott in support of entry level fast food workers who SEIU is in the process of exploiting. Buycotts are so much better then boycotts but in this case I’m joining anyway.
Yes, the left’s outrage machine is dying but it wasn’t a murder committed by outside forces. Nope, this is a suicide and it’s been in the making for a long time. Every time the machine was silent while Alec Baldwin went on angry anti-gay tirades, even silent as he was hired by MSNBC after publicly demeaning someone as a “toxic little queen”, they were slitting the wrists of their own credibility on the subject.
The same is true for the race flavor of the outrage machine. Every time they sat silent as conservative blacks were called uncle Toms and tokens by white liberals, they have been tightening the noose around the neck of their own movement.
Good riddance, and #BoycottA&E.

Sorry, can't agree here. The Duck dynasty founder simply stated his own personal belief . You suggest he is not entitled to his own opinion and or belief made public. Funny how the current standard suggests folks offended by current trends to shove the lgbt agenda down the public's throat should simply change the channel, find another vendor or stay home...yet this celebrity isn't granted the same "courtesy".

NOPE, as far as I'm concerned he is entitled to have and freely express his own beliefs and opinion without suggesting his ideas relate in any way to the A&E enterprise. If a viewer is offended and doesn't want to hear it, the viewer is invited to change the channel or challenge to debate the issue or simply turn off device to find an alternate source of entertainment.

Are you a spam comment, or what?

The point of the post above is not what you say?

You have 2 hours to clarify and then I remove your comment.

I don't support anything he said, but I stand behind his first amendment rights to say it.

I don't watch A&E or any of the so called "reality" shows.

A&E has the right to fire him. It's not a free speech issue.
Everyone has the right to be an asshole. Not sure if he is one, but he HAS THE RIGHT TO BE ONE.
I've never seen Duck Dynasty, but A&E contracted a bunch of guys in Northeast Louisiana with a certain lifestyle...
WHAT
DID
THEY
EXPECT?

This is like the basketball player who chokes the coach and then gets a $20m contract from another team.

A&E has the right to do what they did.
Some other network will, IF THE ROBERTSON FAM GIVES A&E THE FINGER, pick them up.
All they have to do is keep saying they agree with this guy.
A&E will fire the lot and the #1 show will go elsewhere.

But it's not freedom of speech.

Joined this last night- via dual e-mail addresses to A&E--they did not come back "mailer demon" so I got my point across-RE: the Second Amendment--and that I will boycott A&E until they apologize to Phil and the rest of us in the US--

Y'know what's obnoxious is the attitude that having an opinion based on faith, and even when it is leavened by the author saying he would never act in denigration of those he feels are in violation of HIS moral code, that faith based opinion is deemed LESSER than any other opinion.
It just rubs the wrong way.
I don't give a shit what 2 other adults do, (even if it makes me feel that I have a slice of baloney in my socks), but that THEIR feelings are more important than someone else's BECAUSE IT'S FROM THE BIBLE .. even when that other says that opinion should not affect these other people's lives ... it just RUBS ME THE WRONG WAY.

Go ahead and remove my "offensive" (spam?) comment if you choose. you simply reinforce my point that it appears only comments in agreement are acceptable in certain formats. I personally do not agree because the Duck Dynasty founder is entitled to express himself. Whether I choose to listen is up to me. FWIW, I don't watch TV. Too much propaganda, dis functional behavior and garbage exists as "entertainment"

Ok, so you're not spam.

Do you understand that the point of the post is we think the Duck Dynasty guy should not be fired for expressing himself?

Anonymous commenter,
On this post, you have comments from me, Christine and Epa.

On another post, we have comments from me, Nico, and Midnight Rider.

The only person who has not weighed in on this yet is Always on Watch.

All of us, so far, have come down in favor of Duck Dynasty.

Here are my comments along with Midnight Rider and Nico:

Let me clarify. I think homosexuality is perverse (the research on it being BIOLOGICAL is as sketchy as man made global warming) BUT I am against the government discriminating against gays. I am against the federal government having any say about who can get married and who can't. All citizens, from the point of view of the government, should be treated equally.

So if two men or two women want to marry each other and be together, I'd say, "fine, none of my business, hope you're happy!" But when it comes to matters of faith, its a different matter. I do not and will not bend over backwards to make gays feel special. As things stand, they have more rights than straight people. Heck, they're protected from criticism, something NO ONE should ever be protected from.

Meh, I don't mean to rant on here. Just think when the guy is being interviewed on who he is and what he believes, then society needs to accept that that is his opinion whether one agrees with it or not.

This whole, either you love homosexuality or we fire you movement is nothing but persecution.

I'm in pretty much complete agreement with you.

I think homosexuality is unnatural, not according to God's plan. That does not mean it does not arise from natural sources, however. Mental retardation, autism, asthma, and other malformations arise naturally, and yet I would say they are unnatural and not according to God's plan either.

That's my opinion, based upon my own observation.

A penis stuck in a butthole does nothing.

All creativity arises from two things coming together to produce a new thing.

That is the nature of Love and Will as God created it in Humans; God created us in His Own Image; Father, Holy Spirit, SON.

Homosexuality does not of itself create anything. It is a null set. It is a cul de sac in life.

That's ok. I would not condemn asthmatics for being asthmatics, and I will not condemn gays for being gays. That's my feeling.

I don't think God would condemn gays for being gay either.

Now, what they choose to do with their homosexuality, like for instance NORMALIZE IT, attempting to insert it into society at large, mandate it's acceptance, etc., that I do believe God condemns.

Certainly, I condemn it.

I do not, however, condemn tolerance. There is never a reason to be cruel to gays physically or emotionally for the fact that they are homosexual.

I am in agreement with both of you here.

However, as usual, the media seems to be largely leaving out part of the story.

Robertson also said (I don't recall if it was initially or in a later statement) that despite these believes he has not does not nor would not disrespect any person because of this. He also said it is how he feels BUT HE DOES NOT JUDGE THEM FOR IT. That is up to God.

Seems we all think the same way.
The only reason I would boycott Duck Dynasty (one of my favorite shows) is BECAUSE they booted Robertson off.

Any fan of the show he didn't already think he believes this way clearly has no understanding of what they are watching.
