The man is 52-years-old and was wearing a bulletproof vest, and had a handgun and a machine gun, sources suggest. 

“Around 8:09 he shot towards the police officers who were at the scene for a road incident,” said Mr Cazeneuve. “The police woman – who is in very critical condition – was shot in the back.”

She died.
