Muslim Reform Movement Kicks Off in Washington, D.C.?

Muslim Reform Movement Kicks Off in Washington, D.C.
MUSLIM REFORM MOVEMENT
Declaration
We are Muslims who live in the 21st century. We stand for a respectful, merciful and inclusive interpretation of Islam. We are in a battle for the soul of Islam, and an Islamic renewal must defeat the ideology of Islamism, or politicized Islam, which seeks to create Islamic states, as well as an Islamic caliphate. We seek to reclaim the progressive spirit with which Islam was born in the 7th century to fast forward it into the 21st century. We support the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was adopted by UN member states in 1948.
We reject interpretations of Islam that call for any violence, social injustice and politicized Islam. Facing the threat of terrorism, intolerance, and social injustice in the name of Islam, we have reflected on how we can transform our communities based on three principles: peace, human rights and secular governance. We are announcing today the formation of an international initiative: Muslim Reform Movement.
In my opinion, a Reformation of Islam has to begin with the following:

1) A Declaration declaring Jihad (the spreading of Islam through the use of violence) null and void.

2) A Declaration in support of Freedom of Conscience of all individuals, Muslim or not; that no longer will "apostasy" be punishable by death or by any other means

3) that Women are absolutely equal in law and inheritance

4) that homosexuality is no longer punishable by death or by any other means

5) the Burqa is banned throughout the world

6) that Islam recognizes that people shall be governed by the consensus of the people of any and all nations; that the Islamic word for "consensus" is Ijma, and that from now on it means Democracy and the Rights of all Humans everywhere.

Until these things happen, there will be no true Islamic Reformation.

Having pondered the creation of what appears on the surface to be a laudable attempt to create a moderate Islamic movement I'm still hesitant to support.

My reservation/concern regards to this movement is it will likely mirror the destructive forces of the secularized Reform Jewish movement - aka the hard left.

Much of the damage to society comes from the 'anything goes' progressive secularization hydra of societal destruction.

That's a really good point. I had not thought of that.

I got into it last evening with a friend of mine who is a Pastor. This Pastor friend posted an anti-gun, anti-Constitution meme created by the Daily Kos.

This is what Pastors have become in California. It disgusts me. Their religion is Leftism and fitting in with society.

Texas imam, Dr. Al Sayyed told KFDM News he was forced to resign as religious director of the Islamic Society of the Triplex after making comments Monday in which he agrees with Donald Trump's statements that the U.S. should temporarily stop accepting any new Muslim immigrants into the country.

FWIW, a previous effort to moderate Islam in the US also faded to oblivion:
