UPDATED --- Trump Says Something REALLY FUCKING STUPID

Donald Trump, You Stupid Fuckin' Putz

From Yahoo News:
(At) ... the president’s recent White House meeting with county sheriffs from across the country. During the meeting, one sheriff brought up civil asset forfeiture, a practice allowing law enforcement to seize money and property belonging to individuals accused of committing a crime, even before a verdict is handed down.
The sheriff, from Rockwall County, Texas, griped about a Texas state senator seeking to change the law so that a conviction would be required before a suspect’s assets could be seized.
The sheriff joked that “the cartel would build a monument” to the legislator.
“Who is the state senator? Do you want to give his name? We’ll destroy his career,” Trump responded.
No, you won't, Donald.

You do not own our property, just because some asshole in the Sherriff's department decides we have broken a law.

Never, NEVER threaten the American people that way again.

NEVER.

UPDATE

Midnight Rider says Washington Post is reporting Trump was joking. Certainly, his statement drew a laugh.

HERE IS ANOTHER VIDEO THAT GIVES MORE CONTEXT:

Civil forfeiture without due process -- a trial -- is unconstitutional. Period.

Flood the White House email, snail mail, and phones with our outcry. Now.

Yes, it is.

And it has been going on for years.

That Trump supports it is ALMOST a dealbreaker.

If he doesn't repeal Obamacare, drain the swamp and put up that fucking wall, and quick, then I want him the fuck out.

It's a very dangerous thing to get people's hopes up.

He'd better not fuck it up.

I have no patience for this kind of Nazism from Trump. He's supposed to be on our side.

Some orgs like WaPo and NPR are reporting he was joking. Others are saying he threatened. Watching the clip I tend to agree with the former.

OT:
In London, Commons Speaker Faces No Confidence Vote From Tory MP Over Trump Ban

A brief update for our American friends from the UK. You may possibly have heard that the Speaker of our House of Commons; John Bercow – who is ostensibly above political matters and is meant to be neutral has regrettably seriously abused his position. While the House was sitting he suddenly made an announcement ex cathedra that the President of the USA would not be welcome to speak to the house during his forthcoming State visit to the UK. To our knowledge no such invitation (to address the House) had been extended or accepted anyway. It was therefore a gratuitous insult for a political purpose. The same cretin (Bercow) has previously invited all manner of despots recently to the Commons including the President of China so that puts it in context.

Anyway a Member of the House has now written to the Prime Minister and complained and appears to have been given the nod to proceed to get rid of Bercow completely. He has accordingly tabled a motion for a vote of no confidence which is in these circumstances almost bound to succeed. But even if it did not it would put him squarely on notice. Normally as soon as such a motion is tabled he would resign.

Needless to say all right thinking people are absolutely appalled at causing such offence to the President of our closest ally and one who has already given every indication that he is looking out for us in the UK. Please accept our apologies and rest assured that the Speaker’s days are numbered. He gets a huge salary, staff and expenses and lives in palatial apartments in the Palace of Westminster – all of which will be lost to him !

You could usefully then add him to your no fly list !

Check out Wikipedia's entry for civil forfeiture. Informative and appears to be well sourced!

Well, did ya' even watch the full video before posting the aforementioned? It was easy to tell that Trump was joking regarding the Senator. It was a light moment.

Regarding the forfeitures, it seems the primary concern is the process has become a politicized football. The Sheriff's appear to want guidance.

The IRS certainly seizes assets. If we are talking seizing, and possibly impounding the assets of drug cartel hombres to keep them from selling off their ill-gotten gains, I have no problem.

I think in the totality of context of the full interview Trump did more listening than he did talking and some of his questions involved seeking clarity.

Give the poor man a bit of slack. He is still learning the ropes. I would hate to be judged for taking a new management position with less than a month in the position. Let the man breathe.

I agree with TLEP, and also believe there is some confusion here. They were talking about cartel property. Will our Constitution continue to be used to keep protecting the foreign cartels that come to sell drugs, destroy society, and we are here complaining that their rights are not respected? One of the officers clearly said he told the senator from Texas that the cartels will build him a statue in Mexico. Am I wrong? Who is wrong here? Are we so desperate to get fast results we are becoming even dumb?

And by the way, after watching Trump during the two years of campaign, I believe it's pretty clear the guy was joking.

Having just said the above statement, I have to add that the president and Ms. Conway have to learn to zip it. Here is what's going around in FB. A friend of mine posted it, and it gave me the shivers. If this is true, he is out of line and out of ethics, and so is Ms. Conway. Hope it is not true. But here is what's going around:

"A friend of mine posted this earlier. I just made a call myself:
I just called and left a message with my name and my ZIP Code, at
the Office of Government Ethics, and lodged a complaint against the president. Nordstrom recently announced that it was dropping Ivanka Trump's line, and the president took to Twitter to blast the retailer. (He tweeted from his personal account and THEN used @POTUS to retweet himself, abusing the office).
Then I complained that KellyAnne Conway went on Fox News this morning, with a White House logo in the background, and urged viewers to "buy Ivanka." My message stated that it is unethical for the president to use his position to promote his or his children's business interests...and it is ILLEGAL for KA Conway to use the news as a "free commercial.
Call the the Office of Government Ethics at 1(202) 482-9300 and when they answer, enter #5 and leave a complaint.
(As always, copy and paste to share. Otherwise, only our mutual friends will see it.)"

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I don't think local Sherriff's would not be dealing with Drug Cartels. I believe that would be on the FBI and CIA.

Pastorius said...

... and the DHS.

Pastorius said...

Yeah, Kellyanne Conway really did that. That was NOT smart.

This is the first I am hearing about Trump's Tweet on Ivanka and Nordstrom.

Sheesh. I get why he would do it. She's his daughter.

But he is the President.

Agreed.

They have to choose their battles.

Right now, they're in crisis-management mode. Not good! I worked for a school that was always on crisis-management mode. All of us -- teachers, students, parents, support personnel -- suffered.

Pasto,
the intellectual dishonesty of the Sherriff's when Trump posed the question: Can you even see the other side of this argument?

And they all said, "No.

From what I've read since first seeing this blog post, there is indeed some abuse of civil forfeiture going on.

Wikipedia catalogs a few of those cases.
