The dhimmitude of Paul Levitz

Another desecration DC's modern staff is now performing on their universe is with their new, very PC take on Dr. Fate: that the character now wearing the costume is apparently a Muslim, and that only makes the New 52 even more repellent:

The new Doctor Fate book is giving us a Muslim Egyptian-American 20-something in the title role, which is pretty exciting. The preview not only lets us into Khalid “Kent” Nassor’s world as he deals with med school looming over his head, but also sets up the larger conflict of a potential flood that could destroy civilization. The art is enjoyable (like Black Canary, it pushes away from the house style) and I’m already intrigued by the plot.

Sounds like yet another ignoramus who's predisposed to liking their directions no matter how tasteless. And they even just had to make the current character's name a deliberate takeoff of Kent Nelson's name. As for the art they speak of, it looked very dull and unappealing.

Levitz was interviewed by 13th Dimension, and he tried downplaying the Islamic angle:

To me it makes a world of sense that Doctor Fate — or, more precisely, Khalid — is a Muslim hero. Not everyone sees it that way, unfortunately, so I do want to address the 800-pound gorilla: How much do you think that has affected the sales of the book?

Is he Muslim? He’s the son of an Egyptian father and an American mother, and until you read issue #4, you won’t know much about how he sees his religious heritage. The immigrant journey to assimilation usually has some interesting twists for attitudes towards religion, and we’ll see where this all takes Khalid.

Even if he's not an adherent to Islam, there's no chance they'll ever speak negatively about the Religion of Peace here. Besides, this was one of the same men who, when he was still more of an executive for DC, saw to it that they'd collaborate on a project with the Kuwaiti propagandist who published "The 99". The part about attitudes actually gives more reason to worry than it does to assure otherwise.

And Levitz also recently gave an interview to Newsarama about what they're doing with the current protagonist now, and said:

Nrama: Anything else you want to tell readers about what's coming up in Doctor Fate?

Levitz: Much more, I hope, including some world politics, a bit of perspective on religion (how exactly does a self-proclaimed but obviously powerful Egyptian 'god' fit in a religion like Islam, for example), and so much more if we get the chance.

The book's gotten good reviews and critical buzz – I hope your readers will help spread the word, and push the title to where it can sustain a fairly long run. It's hard to launch a non-major-franchise hero these days, and we can use all the magic your powers can provide.

Any realist can guess positive reviews of this new take were deliberate; the medium does suffer from the same kind of corruption now that video games do. Levitz, who only confirms with that interview something's rotten here, used to be a very decent, reliable writer in the 70s and 80s, but since the mid-90s has become a pure disaster and a joke when he took up the job of a publisher. I've had to take his earlier work with a grain of salt, as a result, much like with Gerry Conway. He's also making the mistake of selling the book based on its starring a "non-major-franchise" character, instead of marketing it based on the merits of his writing, which haven't been so good in a long time, or, he's lost whatever talent he once had, not unlike Chris Claremont, whose own writing efforts of the past decade weren't inspiring.

Sharia Law should supersede the U.S. Constitution, said some Muslims when surveyed by Fox News this week.
“The U.S. Constitution comes from people. Sharia Law comes from Allah,” said one man responding to Fox News’ David Webb. “The Constitution governs this country. Sharia Law governs the whole world. Of course it is above.”
Webb asked members of a New York City-based Islamic cultural center whether Sharia Law was above the Constitution. Many men replied simply, “Yes.” A smaller number disagreed without further elaboration.
One answered, “No, but I think the Sharia law is made by God, by Allah. And the Constitution is made by people, so it’s not the same.”
“Sharia law is completely different than the United States Constitution,” said another man. “As a Muslim, you practice Islamic law, as a Muslim. The United States Constitution, as a citizen, I respect the Constitution, nothing to do with Sharia law. In Muslim countries, Sharia Law is allowed. Other countries? No, you have to respect the Constitution.”
Others spoke of Sharia Law protecting Muslims and their “dignity.”
This week, the Center for Security Policy released a poll reporting that of all Muslims surveyed, 51% agreed that “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Sharia.”
The Center also reported that nearly a quarter of the Muslims polled believed that, “It is legitimate to use violence to punish those who give offense to Islam by, for example, portraying the prophet Mohammed.”
Sharia Law has become a flash-point for controversy this week, following comments made Sunday by Republican presidential candidate, Ben Carson. Carson said that he would not support a Muslim for president, and that Sharia Law was fundamentally incompatible with the Constitution.
Carson has stood by his words, and has tried to clarify them for the media.

Ben Carson’s campaign manager literally shut down a CNN interview on Sunday as anchor Jake Tapper grilled the Republican presidential candidate on his views on Muslims.

Asked about his recent remark that he wouldn’t “advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation,” Carson clarified his statement by saying he would “have problems with somebody who embraced all the doctrines associated with Islam.”
“If they are not willing to reject Sharia and all the portions of it that are talked about in the Quran — if they are not willing to reject that, and subject that to American values and the Constitution, then of course, I would [have problems],” Carson said.
He also declined to backtrack when CNN’s Jake Tapper asked if he could’ve made his statements on Islam any clearer.
“You seem to be signing out Muslims as individuals who automatically, as a knee-jerk, would put their religion ahead of the country,” Tapper said to Carson. “I think that offended a lot of people, including a lot of patriotic Muslims.”
Growing more frustrated, Carson suggested the “media” think his comments are more newsworthy than the American people.
“You’re an African-American. You know what it’s like for people to make false assumptions about you,” Tapper said. “And you seem to be doing the same thing with Muslims. … You’re assuming that Muslim Americans put their religion ahead of the country.”
“I’m assuming that if you accept all the tenets of Islam that you would have a very difficult time abiding under the Constitution of the United States,” Carson shot back.
Immediately after Carson’s answer, a voice of Carson’s campaign manager could be heard off camera stating, “This interview is over.”

I don't know WHY  the manager shut this down.

If you believe the Quran is perfect and immutable, you CANNOT allow the first amendment of the Constitution to stand if you are in charge.

I have no issue with Muslims who are here and believe this, and render unto caeser, etc, while wishing the USA could accept what is written, and accept that it just cannot be that way.

But there is a fundamental problem, OBVIOUSLY, in those people serving the govt and the people (who you will have been ordered to fight until they accept Allah, and pay the tax and feel subdued).

Now perhaps there are those who like politicians that believe abortion is murder, will never the less obey the law, and SCOTUS.

Let them SAY SO.

If you are born into Islam and you believe the PEOPLE are sovereign, congrats and welcome. You're one of us in  EVERY qualification (and an apostate to many muslims).

This is the obvious divide.

Either the people are sovereign in the USA or they are not.

Look, I can almost guarantee you that if all we learn about these two "teens" is that they are "teens", that means THEY ARE MUSLIMS.

London (AFP) - Two teenagers were arrested Sunday over a blaze at a London mosque which claims to be the largest in western Europe. Ten fire trucks were sent to fight the blaze which broke out Saturday at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden, southwest London. The smoke could be seen across the city. 

Two boys aged 16 and 14 have been arrested on suspicion of arson and remain in custody at a south London police station, Scotland Yard police headquarters said.  

The fire affected around half of the ground floor, part of the first floor and a section of the roof. London Fire Brigade said the blaze had hit administration buildings and the "mosque itself is thankfully unaffected." 

The mosque was built for the Ahmadiyya Muslim community to provide people with a meeting place and venue to hold social religious events.

Updated NASA Data: Global Warming Not Causing Any Polar Ice Retreat

Updated data from NASA satellite instruments reveal the Earth’s polar ice caps have not receded at all since the satellite instruments began measuring the ice caps in 1979. Since the end of 2012, moreover, total polar ice extent has largely remained above the post-1979 average. 

The updated data contradict one of the most frequently asserted global warming claims – that global warming is causing the polar ice caps to recede. 

The timing of the 1979 NASA satellite instrument launch could not have been better for global warming alarmists. The late 1970s marked the end of a 30-year cooling trend. 

As a result, the polar ice caps were quite likely more extensive than they had been since at least the 1920s. Nevertheless, this abnormally extensive 1979 polar ice extent would appear to be the “normal” baseline when comparing post-1979 polar ice extent. 

Updated NASA satellite data show the polar ice caps remained at approximately their 1979 extent until the middle of the last decade. 

Beginning in 2005, however, polar ice modestly receded for several years. By 2012, polar sea ice had receded by approximately 10 percent from 1979 measurements. (Total polar ice area – factoring in both sea and land ice – had receded by much less than 10 percent, but alarmists focused on the sea ice loss as “proof” of a global warming crisis.) 

A 10-percent decline in polar sea ice is not very remarkable, especially considering the 1979 baseline was abnormally high anyway. 

Regardless, global warming activists and a compliant news media frequently and vociferously claimed the modest polar ice cap retreat was a sign of impending catastrophe. 

Al Gore even predicted the Arctic ice cap could completely disappear by 2014. 

In late 2012, however, polar ice dramatically rebounded and quickly surpassed the post-1979 average. Ever since, the polar ice caps have been at a greater average extent than the post-1979 mean.

Egyptian President, al-Sisi, Says, "Expand Peace With Israel to More Arab Countries

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has called on the Middle East region to unite against terrorism as well as invest in efforts to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 

In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press on Saturday night, Sisi said all countries in the region needed to cooperate to vanquish the intensifying terrorist threat that has led to a "ferocious war" in Egypt. 

Sisi warned countries faced "sliding into failure" if the Islamic State terror group were not defeated, adding that Egypt's own military needed to be "augmented" to combat ISIS-affiliated terrorists in Sinai. 

Egypt's President then urged countries in the region to renew efforts to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict via a two-state solution. 

According to Sisi, Egypt's nearly 40-year-peace with the Jewish state should be expanded to more Arab countries in the region. 

Resolving the conflict, Sisi added, could "change the face of the region and...bring about enormous improvement to the situation...I'm optimistic by nature and I say that there is a great opportunity."

His attack comes as Orban accused German Chancellor Angela Merkel of “moral imperialism” for helping impose the quotas on Europe. 

“We are Hungarians — we cannot think with German minds,” Mr Orban said, adding: “Hungary should have the right to control the impact of a mass migration. The Hungarian people don’t want this.” 

Meanwhile, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has vowed to break the new EU law, saying that his country will turn away 800 migrants due to be sent from Italy and Greece. “Slovakia is not going to respect mandatory quotas,” he said.

IT WAS only when the gates of the Nazi death camps were thrown open that the industrial scale of Hitler’s killing became known. Western diplomats had received scattered information about Nazi massacres of Jewish people and “undesirables” in occupied Poland and Russia but it was difficult to confirm.   

Yet just 70 years since the end of the Second World War, a genocide is taking place once again, this time against Christians. 

Scores have already been murdered by Islamic State and thousands forced to leave ancient Christian communities in northeastern Syria and western Iraq as the extremists demand they either convert to Islam, pay an extortionate rate of tax or face execution. Some have even been crucified. 

Despite concerns being raised by religious leaders including the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the plight of Christian refugees is largely being ignored by the western world. Now a charity, which is being funded by Jewish peer George Weidenfeld, who escaped Nazi-occupied Austria with the help of British Christians, is taking matters into its own hands by mounting a series of rescue missions to save the Syrian Christians. 

Lord Weidenfeld, who was smuggled to safety by Quakers at the age of five, said: “I have a debt to repay.” 

So far the charity, the Barnabas Fund, has liberated 158 Christians from Syria and found them a new home in Poland. 

Its founder and international director Patrick Sookhdeo has recently returned from a visit to eastern Europe, where he was seeking refuge for the hundreds of thousands of Syrian Christians who continue to live under the tyranny of IS.

“Considering that migrants cannot afford to rent new properties… moves must be initiated in which higher income households purchase or build more expensive accommodations for themselves in order to free up the less expensive housing for migrants.”

A woman in Germany is being evicted from her home of 16 years to make way for asylum-seekers, amid growing concerns over how Germany will find accommodation for the hundreds of thousands of refugees flooding into the country.
Bettina Halbey, a 51-year-old nurse, has lived alone in her flat in the small western German town of Nieheim since her children grew up.
On September 1, she received a letter from her landlord, the local municipality, telling her the building was being turned into a refugee shelter and she had until next May to leave.
“I was completely taken aback,” Ms Halbey told Welt newspaper. “I find it impossible to describe how the city has treated me.”
