It’s with great disappointment that I read Ralph Peters’ criticism of the Danish press. Peters had written a tough-minded editorial a few months back but his belief that it is only militant Islam has undermined his ability to fully understand the cultural threat of Islam.
What he and others don’t realize is that the cartoons are accurate. Mohammad was a violent man who slaughtered, plundered, terrorized, and conquered. The Europeans were being honest and truthful. Peters is asking us to lie. If to ease the enterprise of nations-building, we resort to lies and give up our freedoms, we should reconsider our strategy. We may win a battle but we will lose the war … and our souls. A sustained policy of lies and deception only destroys our capacity to recognize the truth and undermines the source for a genuine resolve. We can’t compromise with the truth!
