Russia warns of US missile shield retaliationThe planned deployment of US interceptor missiles in Poland could trigger a missile strike by Russia if those missiles are ever used, the Russian army's chief of staff has warned.
"We are talking about the possibility of a retaliatory strike being triggered by the mistaken classification of an interceptor missile," Yury Baluyevsky said at a press conference broadcast on state television.
Baluyevsky explained that an interceptor missile launched by the United States could be mistaken by Russia's automatic defence system for a ballistic missile aimed against Russia.
"Who is going to take responsibility for an automatic triggering of the system if an interceptor missile is launched from Polish territory through Russia to strike down an Iranian missile?"
"I don't mean to scare anyone but this isn't a scare story.... It's a technical detail that could affect the military stability of the world," Baluyevsky said.
The United States has outlined plans to site 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar base in the Czech Republic by 2012 as part of a missile defence shield aimed at a possible missile threat from Iran, according to Washington.
Russia has said that there is no such threat and that the missile shield can therefore only be aimed at Russia. Russia has vowed to take measures to defend its security against the US plans.
Besides we had better not have missiles which can hit only incoming missiles meant to kill us and our allies, since our enemies are so completely, galactically moronic they write software which cannot discriminate between missiles aimed at other missiles, and missiles aimed at Moscow, and in order to be certain, have to kill everyone even thought they don't really mean it. So sorry.

The SS-18 in the 80's was so precise, that it's MIRV's version was judged to be a first stike threat to hardened american silos, and changed our entire strategic structure with far more weight given over towards submarines. That means we rated that it would hit within 250 yards of its target with a LARGE (1 megaton...Hiroshima x 50) nuclear warhead. I think the russkies can program, don't you? not only that.. why wouldn't an Iranian launch trigger the Russian's missiles? After all those missiles will be going toward Russia too as they go to

Putin's Russia is very big on posturing. The reality is that much of the scientific and technological intelligentsia of the old USSR has emigrated away to Israel, Europe, and the Anglosphere. Russia is a rapidly depopulating country that cannot field a credible military force.
The Russian people are demoralized and dispirited. Birth rates of ethnic Russians are at half replacement rate. Most Russian men are dead before their 60th birthdays. The old expertise is dying off or emigrating away.
Putin is not allowing the younger Russians the economic and political freedoms to make their own way. The centuries-old tradition of treating Russians as children of the all-powerful state continues.
Under the bluster of Putin, Russia slowly dies.
