MENSA DUH of the Day -Counterterror chief: U.S. still lacks counter-ideology to Islamist extremism

The U.S. government has yet to develop a strategic counter-ideology to Islamist extremism, the nominee to head the National Counterterrorism Center revealed last week.

Excuse me while I yawn....gee, ya think?

Critics say the U.S. government has failed to understand the military and strategic threat posed by Islamist extremism, an important first step in developing a counter-ideology.

I get that twisty feeling in my stomach when I read that. Been writing and saying that for

YEARS and been regarded as a lunatic, I'm sure that's true of most reading this.

Michael Leiter, the nominee for NCTC director, told the Senate Intelligence Committee May 6, that analysts are "looking at radicalization from a number of angles," including religious, ethnic and psychological.

There is JUST ONE ANGLE

"And these are all critical elements of understanding the process of radicalization and then designing strategies," he said.

Strategies? We are looking for strategies to CONVINCE those fighting in the way of Allah to do otherwise? Get an authoritative mullah or Sheikh? Oh, can't find one? Let's ask Tantawi, ok? What's your strategy for that?

However, in terms of coordination and strategic planning, "those are far more nascent," Leiter said.

"And I think that, if confirmed, I would view it as my number one strategic planning priority to forcefully coordinate and synchronize U.S. government efforts," he said.

What the hell does that mean?

Leiter said progress has been made in coordinating government "messaging" (x-lation..they now use IM) as well as foreign aide, private investment overseas and other efforts to "to counter the spread of the ideology which contributes to terrorism."

That would be interesting to see - "other efforts to counter the spread of the ideology which contributes to terrorism." All we have to do is refute 1400 years of theory and jurisprudence over there, no problemo.

Leiter said the funding of terrorism from Saudi Arabia is "very serious" despite Saudi government efforts to disrupt Al Qaida on the Arabian peninsula.

Leiter said a "significant percentage" of intelligence used by his agency is gathering by "signals intercepts."

"That is a significant portion of what we look at to understand terrorists' plans, intent and the like," he said.
