What in the world transformed this election?
Sarah Palin is a great speaker but she is not the second coming. However, she crystallized the essence of who McCain has apparently convinced America he is.
MAVERICK
Disgusted with how it is.
I keep trying to come up with a reasonable explanation for the shock change encompassed in the last week, and I can see abortion is not it, defense is not it, the economy is not it, conservatism isn't it, and being a republican DEFINITELY isn't it.
On thursday-friday Gallup et all certainly averaged about 5-8 points in Obama's favor, today the smallest lead for McCain is 1 (Rasmussen) and the largest 10 (Gallup). It's literally unbelievable.
If we look at Rove's comment now that McCain's pick was cynical, it demonstrates at once his limited view of politics and America, and his inability to comprehend OTHER. It also shows in his demonstrable support for Romney as VP what the "real" republicans wanted.
MORE OF THE SAME.
More of Delay, Hastert, Livingstone, Foley, Craig, Abramoff, (sadly) Cunningham, heavy handed corruption and arrogant in your face, hammered faux-conservative, faux right wing christian republicanism, juxstaposed to the 'change' mantra of WAY WAY left wing same ole same ole dressed up as 'economic justice', and foreign policy course ideology which is represented iconically by Mr. Obama's decision to CUT OUT missiles defense for our citizens because it is opposite to the dialectic of THAT kind of change.
Even if the polls grow closer again, which is what I believe is going to happen, the message of McCain has struck the GONG.
But now the real nitty gritty will ensue.
What about tax policy, defense plans, supreme court choices? What about the utterly contra-Reagan interventions in the securities and mortgage world going on? Compulsory, or enabling? How will the (surprise and apparently popular) guiding principles of McCain-Palin shape up against the toned down change of Obama? What about what I (and Sen McCain, and I betcha Gov Palin) consider the single war out there, and what Obama claims is the Iraq which has nothing to with Afghanistan-Pakistan-Waziristan ..which has nothing to do with the Maghreb, Sudan, Somalia, Thailand, Indonesia, Phillipines, and what is being taught to young children who happen to be muslims, HERE, in EUROPE and the rest of the world, as if it is the word of god?
Should Palin be squirreled away? Or should she be out there driving a stake thru the heart of the other side?
Or has this election been decided, and we just don't know it?

""has this election been decided, and we just don't know it?""
Odd comment. There has in the past been conspiratorial aspects to elections - Bush the elder=CIA, Clinton=Rhodes scholar (Rhodes being a Fabian society one-worlder), 'W' and Kerry both Skull and Bones. There seems to be none of that on this go round.
Decided by the sentiments of the american people, in reaction to what they perceive as the main theme of the election.
