I really thought Obama was a Carter redux, but I was giving him way too much credit. Even Jimmy the Dhimmi isn't this stupid.
The Pentagon's senior judge overseeing terror trials at Guantanamo Bay dropped charges Thursday against an al-Qaida suspect in the 2000 USS Cole bombing, upholding President Barack Obama's order to freeze military tribunals there.
The charges against suspected al-Qaida bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active Guantanamo war crimes case.
The legal move by Susan J. Crawford, the top legal authority for military trials at Guantanamo, brings all cases into compliance with Obama's Jan. 22 executive order to halt terrorist court proceedings at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.
What a slap in the face to these fine sailors.

They gave their all, we need a President who has the courage to stand up for them. But those who are forever trapped in a September 10th mentality will have already forgotten that the ten suspects captured in Yemen somehow managed to escape prison. Yes, ten of them on the same day, from the same Yemeni prison.
The same Yemen government who has an official who said
"Yemen is like a bus station — we stop some terrorists, and we send
others on to fight elsewhere ... We appease our partners in the West,
but we are not really helping."
Or that released Gitmo detainees have already surfaced on al Qaeda videos.
Obama has sent a clear signal to jihadists that while they wage war on us, we will do nothing.

This is utterly DESPICABLE.
Welcome to IBA, Kevin.
Kevin,
Welcome to IBA!
Of minimal consolation, Jeff Schreiber, legal analyst states:
Now, the terrorist will remain in custody, and the charges will likely be dropped without prejudice--meaning that they can be reinstated in another military commission or civilian court--but what kind of example does this send to those who would gladly die if it meant causing the death of Americans? Khalid Sheikh Mohammed laughed at the fact that we actually gave him a trial -- now, news will circulate among our enemies that America is bending over backwards to accommodate terrorists who killed Americans.
kevin,
As if I needed another reason to be upset with the election results. Obama is going to make our country even less safe. I have a terrible feeling there will be another major terrorist attack on American soil perpetrated by al Queada during his first term in office. I hope I'm wrong.
AOW, thank you, my pleasure.
Damien, I hope you're wrong too, there's no argument that we are less safe.
Thanks Pastorius, good to be here.
kevin,
We do have a reason to think we are less safe if Obama keeps doing stuff like this and shuts down Gitmo like he said he would.
Obama actually believes there is some kind of goodness which results from refiling charges against these excreta as if they were CAR THIEVES in an american court of law.
That is dangerously naive
Epaminondas,
I couldn't agree more, its incredibly naive.
Very fancy FOX News style editing You purposely removed the sentence that read...
"charges were dropped without prejudice--meaning that they will be reinstated in another military commission or civilian court in the future"
This is a shameful act on your part by just using the deaths of these fine men and woman for your own Blog's political attack on the President
Bush/Cheney regime FUBARED the whole thing now it all needs to be sorted out, They do not even have records on some of these detainee's, I am confident that in the future the guilty detainee's will be punished and the innocent freed.
GZ Vet
Bob Blogger, unfortunately history is against you and your claims.
Clinton specifically refused to take OBL in 96 because we did not have the kind of evidence for a US court, and WHY WOULD WE?
The rules for these POW's were drafted by state dept types in 1947-48 when NO ONE dreamed that mass murderers would kill more than died at Pearl Harbor for god from states who would not or could not act in a responsible or sovereign fashion.
Just as Hamdi is free today, most if not all of these guys WILL WALK.
The message is clear.
KILL THEM ON THE BATTLEFIELD. LOSE THE INFO IN THEIR HEADS. DON'T EVEN DREAM OF ANYTHING LIKE A P-300 TEST TO GET INFO.
You confidence in not only misplaced, it is absurd.
They are going to get away with killing americans because the constitution says PERSONS, not citizens, and to OBAMA has his dangerously naive ilk, it really IS a suicide pact.
Just watch ..and that is of course if they ARE reinstated. If the evidence will fail by US courtroom stds ...say bye bye.
The entire Geneva apparatus is not up to the modern tasks.
Is there any wonder why, when captured, and notified he in the custody of the FBI, KSM's first words were 'I'm not saying anything until I have a lawyer' ?..nothing like a few years as East Caroline U.
Bob Blogger, he also missed out:
"Groups representing victims' families were angered by Obama's order, charging they had waited too long already to see the alleged attackers brought to court."
I say that this is a shameful act on your Presidents part by just using the deaths of these fine men and women to meet an ill advised election promise.
Obama is dead set on a path of appeasement at whatever the cost, much like what Neville Chamberlain tried in the 1930's with Hitler. It didn't work then, it wont work now. Russia, China, North Korea, Iran - they're all tooling up and Obama think's now is the time to get rid of 80% of it's weapons. World peace will only come about when the world wants peace, until then, to protect your own peace you have to wage war, the history of humankind has taught of this.
Liberals ignoring this fact only increase the likelihood of war due to showing signs of weakness to the rest of the world who see an opportunity to wage an easy war. Look at Irans response following Obama's call, Iran said that the US is showing signs of weakness, and he's spot on.
Channelling terrorist suspects through civil courts is a joke but unfortunately comes at the expense of the families of those who died in the USS Cole attack. Shame on you Obama.
I agree with this statement when possible -
"KILL THEM ON THE BATTLEFIELD. LOSE THE INFO IN THEIR HEADS."
But this one...
"Groups representing victims' families were angered by Obama's order, charging they had waited too long already to see the alleged attackers brought to court."
Bush/Cheney had 7 years to do something with these detainee's!
Now Obamha has to clean up the crap they left.
This FUBAR was all Bush - Cheney
and put a big fat stain on our good guy's white hat which now needs a thorough cleaning.
So now the clean up begins,
and why do conservatives ignore all the military cutting that Bush Sr, Rumsfield did and all of they're weapons sales to Iraq prior to the war!
and the Junior/Cheney war crimes...
And why are the Republican's concerned about spending now when we need it after eight years of a spending disaster and passing a similar huge spending bill that Bush/Mccain("The fundamentals are sound") wanted so badly in November? Where is that money? Given to the rich corporations for what? nobody knows? no accountability!
Junior robbed the National treasure and then left for Dallas enroute to South America.
P.s. I have no problem with CIA black op's quietly doling out justice around the world...
Damn, late for the gig again.
Welcome Kevin. Another Infidel Woot!
Very nice touch and fair amount of work finding and posting all the pictures.
Great Job have a beer, Infidel, before the Current Tenant of Record gets us all killed!
Since Obama’s earnest drive to convince the nation to weaken its economic strength through redistribution as well as weaken its national defense, has confirmed the very threats to our Republic’s survival that the Constitution was designed to avert, it no longer is sustainable for the United States Supreme Court and Military Joint Chiefs to refrain from exercising WHAT IS THEIR ABSOLUTE CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO DEFEND THE NATION FROM UNLAWFUL USURPATION. The questions of Obama’s Kenyan birth and his father’s Kenyan/British citizenship (admitted on his own website) have been conflated by his sustained unwillingnes to supply his long form birth certificate now under seal, and compounded by his internet posting of a discredited “after-the-fact” short form ‘certificate’. In the absence of these issues being acknowledged and addessed, IT IS MANIFEST THAT OBAMA REMAINS INELIGIBLE TO BE PRESIDENT UNDER ARTICLE 2 OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. Being a 14th Amendment “citizen” is not sufficient. A “President” MUST BE an Article 2 “natural born citizen” AS DEFINED BY THE FRAMERS’ INTENT.
"Bush/Cheney had 7 years to do something with these detainee's!"
Yes, safely housed away from US shores. The idea of treating terrorists as criminals is absurd anyway. In reality they are prisoners of war.
Bob ..this place is not a place where Bush is well loved. He has come in for VERY VERY heavy criticism on this blog.
also .."put a big fat stain on our good guy's white hat which now needs a thorough cleaning."
White hat?
What do you imagine was going on, on Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Tarawa, Okinawa?
PERCEPTION OF "White hat"?
LUXURY, and a useless one
In Afghanistan where ostensibly there are no political disagreements with those we are allied with (the "right" war?), they all want out ASAP.
We are on our own. We have to define the path ourselves without reference to anyone else.
That's just how it is.
There IS only one war. It may be unpopular to advise that what is going in in Yemen, Pakistan, the Maghreb, Afghanistan and Iraq and Iran, Lebanon and Gaza are all just different campaigns in that one war, and it may even LOSE ELECTIONS to insist on that, but that does not make it less true.
Now imagine the degree of criticism Bush has gotten in here when many of us have formed opinions that this is the unpleasant and bitter fact.
